Alright guys, big progress! It's official, I'm off the Marine's weight loss program, but that doesn't mean it stops there right? I have to keep the train moving. I hit the military goal of 186, and weighed in at 183! I'm ecstatic! My motivation is through the roof! Now I'm setting personal goals. My next one will be 170. That's going to be a struggle, but I have my wife to help me out. I've seen major improvements in my upper body strength. My pull ups have gone up by 3. My goal is 20 pull ups of course because that's the perfect pull up score. Last Saturday, even though I got off BCP I went and worked out with them anyways. I wasn't disappointed. It was a mile and half run with a weighted pack, in the rain. I loved it. It was motivating and fun. Stuff like that just makes you feel hard. I have a new goal now besides my weight. I'm coming up on my last two years as a Marine. That means I need to start thinking ahead. The idea of getting completely out is horrible to me. My new goal is to get a conditional release from the Marines and hop on over to the Army. The only option they really offer prior enlisted is 18X though. The Green Berets. I really wanted airborne, but I can just as easily see myself going 18X. If I get my conditional release I'll enter into a grueling 14 week course to join special forces. If I fail I'll drop to regular infantry, but guess what? Failure isn't an option. I'm keeping the train rolling. I hope you guys do too. As always, be safe.

No pictures today. Just text! So it's been a while since I've made an update. Things have been absolutely crazy in life. My Meemaw passed away this past week. It's been rough. Luckily my wife was right beside me the whole way. At the funeral my brother was present. My brother and I have had a strained relationship since we got in a tiff and he called my wife a cow. I may, or may not have, promised to break his nose the next time I saw him. It was awkward, but death has a way of bringing people together. He apologized to my wife, we hugged, and I guess that's a relationship I'm going to have to work on. If you're from the South you know every funeral is followed by an ungodly amount of food. Not just food, but the most unhealthy food full of carbs, fats, and fried treats. I'm sad to say I didn't exactly restrain myself and gave in. Then... I totally had an unhealthy amount of moonshine/beer. After that, was mother's day. I love this day and hate it. It lets me show my mother and sister how much I appreciate them, but I never know what to get them. Also, so much Mexican food was consumed... Again I kinda gave in. I'm going to have to work extra hard to work all this off, but I'm not worried. I starred a new lift routine, and I consistently have been hitting a 24 minute 3 mile. Anyways, lift shit, be safe, and have fun. Love you guys!
So, things have been kinda on and off again this week. I have had some victories and some not so great set backs. My wonderful wife is a part time dog sitter and we've had a lot going on. I've officially fallen in love with the chihuahua! I've decided I'm stealing him. :) Okay so as far as the progress goes, let's start with the good news! I have officially hit a freaking goal weight! That's right, for two days in a row I've consistently weighed 190 lbs. That's great for me. Since two weeks ago I've lost 2 in. And 10 lbs! All together, from my high weight of 220, I lost 30! The average tire weighs 20 so I've lost a tire and a half! That's great right? I've also stuck very consistently to my meal replacement program, herbalife. Yes, I know, it's not for everyone. My wife herself is a very outspoken critic of it as she is a beachebody coach. Well, it works for me and I'm seeing great results. Another victory is that I've actually gotten my 3 mile run time down to under 25 minutes! This is great because even when I was in boot camp my best run time was 22 minutes flat! If I could just cut two more minutes off I'd be immensely happy! Another thing is I've found a great motivation in music recently. A musical about Alexander Hamilton, rightfully titled Hamilton, has really been getting the blood pumping. It's amazing what difference great music makes! I recommend everyone to look it up on spotify! On the down side, watching these dogs have put quite a strain on me in the mornings. I've been having to wake up 30 minutes earlier than usual just to get enough work out in, and it has caused me to falter a bit in my attendance. That's okay though because I'm trying to supplement with a bit of beach body programming such as Insanity. I'm familiar with insanity although I've never seen much of a result from it. Maybe it's because the biggest thing my body reacts to is running. Anyways, that's what's been going on in my life. I hope every one of you finds the motivation to wake up early and go work out. Remember guys, love yourself enough to give yourself good health, and as always, be safe.
Even though I always used them, I was always a little uncomfortable using the abductor and adductor machines until I read this.
Are you there to impress the people at the gym or are you there to better yourself? Don’t let other people stifle your training, train properly and pay no mind to other people or thoughts of embarrassment.
As I’ve said in the past, an underdeveloped muscle surrounded by strong muscle is an injury waiting to happen, so don’t let it.

Depending on the Scale for Victories
So, this is something I want to talk about today. Yesterday I talked about motivation and this ties in closely to it.
People often want instant results and that’s because results help to maintain your motivation. However, people tend to act like the scale weight is the end all-be all to gauge success and that’s the farthest thing from the truth. In reality, it’s a small fraction of what gauges results.
I had never heard this term before, but my wife introduced me to it: non-scale victory. It’s an easy concept, but people tend to have a hard time understanding it for some reason.
A non-scale victory can be anything from avoiding bad food to running an extra quarter mile. My favorite is when you tape yourself and find you’ve lost inches around your waist. You have to look at other things besides the scale or you will lose motivation. Your willpower will break.
Recently, I had a hell of a non-scale victory. I usually take my runs pretty relaxed. I typically run 3 miles as a warm up for about 30 minutes, but yesterday I ran it in a clean 26:42. When I got home I realized my weight didn’t change at all. While that wasn’t very motivating I thought back to the morning run. I pushed harder, I sweat more, and I felt better.
I guess what I’m trying to say is you can see the instant results of working out. It’s probably not going to be on your scale. Do you feel the high after the workout? That’s a result. Do you see yourself improving? Even if it’s not budging on the scale it’s still a victory if you FEEL the results. The best indication of results are how you feel. Listen to your body folks.
Your body has what’s called a mind to muscle connection. There’s a very fantastic body weight trainer who's YouTube channel is called homemade muscle. He goes into deep detail about this. I highly suggest you check him out. (Literally just type it into youtube) It’s what gives you proper form. It also is how your muscles communicate with your aware mind. So next time you don’t see the scale nudge but you feel results file it under a victory.
Have a safe and fun workout people.
