Dean could’ve gotten his happy ending with his found family all together and I’d be able to rewatch the show with a sense of “just wait, you’ll get there in the end” but instead he got tossed on a fucking rebar and died alone
You have this character fighting for his life for 15 years, struggling with depression and anger issues, childhood trauma and identity, all while carrying the burden of keeping the literal world from ending. Learning to deal with his grief, learning to love and be loved in return. And when it’s all over you just kill him? Just like that? And then play it off like it’s a happy and deserved end
this is one of the reasons the ending of spn is so triggering for many of us, because we, just like Dean, have fought and still fights, the sense of unworthiness, of just being a tool, of having a place here on earth only to help and save others.
so what does his unnecessary death tell us? it tells us that we as well could just lay down and die because there wasn't more to this life. it tells us that our fights can only be won if we give up on living. only then can our lives mean something. and I hate that, because it is exactly the same thing my inner critic has been saying to me since I was 5. that's more than 30 years you know.
