Every night, we close our eyes not knowing whether we will all wake up together in the morning, or whether the bombing will take one of our children before sunrise. We can barely communicate with the outside world. Internet access reaches us only with great difficulty and after many attempts, and sometimes days pass without us being able to send any message. Help Walid's Family Find Safety and Stability After Repeated Displacement in Gaza

I am Engineer Walid Al-Qatrawi.I am 36 years old, a father of three children: Adam, Hala, and Nay. I was born and raised in Gaza, where my family and I have spent our entire lives.

Because of the ongoing conflict, we have been forced to leave our home and relocate multiple times in search of safety. Today, my family and I are displaced in southern Gaza, living in a fragile tent that does not provide the protection and stability my children need.

After repeated displacement, my children have lost the sense of security and normal life they once knew. Every day, we struggle to provide them with a safe and dignified environment. Our tent offers very limited protection from harsh conditions and the challenges of displacement. We urgently need to repair and equip it, build a private bathroom for our family, provide food, clean water, clothing, and essential supplies for our children. If possible, we also hope to secure a safer temporary home where our family can live with more stability.

The Surgery Is Over.The Fight Isn't 💔

When they took my mother into the operating room, l felt like I couldn't breathe. I kept praying that l would see her alive again. By God's mercy, she survived the surgery, and I will never forget the people who stood beside us and helped us reach that moment 🙏

But our journey is not over yet. She is still in the hospital under close medical observation, and we still need $700 to cover her remaining hospital bills.. medications, and treatment 💔

watching my husband get diagnosed with and treated for sleep apnea over the last year was not the thing that radicalized me re: weight and healthcare but my goodness it has solidified my stances.

sleep apnea is more common in people who are fat.

society decided for some reason that this meant that being fat causes sleep apnea. its often difficult to get referrals for sleep apnea treatment if you are fat, because some PCPs will tell you try losing weight first.

turns out!! having untreated sleep apnea causes weight gain in a not-insignificant number of people. it also makes it fucking impossible for many people to lose weight.

my husband worked out the same amount before he got a cpap as he does now. there have been no major diet changes either. yet he has been losing weight -- and gaining muscle tone -- consistently since he started using a cpap in january.

also, his blood pressure -- which was high, which docs blamed on his weight/diet -- went down significantly within one month of starting cpap treatment, before his weight changed significantly.

ANYWAYS. this is getting long. two final thoughts.

Fat person with sleep apnea here. Before I got a CPAP, my resting heart rate was in the 110s. Everyone wanted to blame that on my weight. I lost 100 lbs and my heart rate didn't budge. But I was also constantly tired and napping all day with no relief from the exhaustion. I eventually got a sleep study and learned I had sleep apnea, and within weeks of starting CPAP therapy, my heart rate dropped to under 80 bpm.

Sleep apnea can cause so much harm when left untreated. If you suspect you might have it, PLEASE insist upon testing and treatment. It can change (and save!) your life.
