A Ship Delayed [Lillie & Lynette]
>Lynette could barely hold back a sneer watching the pathetic reaction to criticism. Making excuses. Avoiding eye contact. Stumbling and stuttering out words. So weak-willed.
>âStop mumbling and speak clearly.â Lynette coldly scolded the girl like she would a subordinate. âYou only use them âa littleâ? Are you waiting for spirits to whisper the answers in your ears?â she scoffed, mocking the girl.
>âNo science is absolute?? It seems you have no sense, that is absolute. You truly know nothing, donât you? Is this the standard here or are you just especially dim?â Lynette outright scowled at the dullard. It seems the world outside of Sechs was as primitive as she had heard.
She bit hard into her lip, trying to keep from crying or snapping or doing much of anything but be âniceâ. She had tried her best to speak pleasantly to this woman and have a nice conversation with. In return, all she got were hateful comments and general rudeness. Lillie had had about enough of this.
âOkay, look. I donât know where youâre from but, here in Arcadia, or really anywhere else in this world, your attitude would be considered awfully rude and hateful. Iâm not going to tell your manager or anything about this.â Because, really, she felt that would just cause more unnecessary problems. âSo this conversation is over. Have a good day. Just please announce when the ferry is here. Thank you.â
With a frustrated huff, Lillie turned her back on the antagonizing woman and made her way to a chair on the other side of the building. She took a seat, pulled out a book from her bag, and tried to focus on it. It was no use though. Tears stung at her eyes. Her cheeks felt flushed and hot.
She hated being âmeanâ. But sometimes, you just had to stand up for yourself.
>Lynette simply stared at the girl as she spoke and then walked away. It seemed she wasnât completely spineless. She seemed like the type who only knew how to smile and apologize.
>Still Lynette was peeved the girl did not seem to take in anything she was saying. One should always take criticism to mind and improve. If Lynette got upset with everyone who gave her criticism...well her career in the Sechs Empire would have ended fairly early.
>Well no matter. If only all conversations locals tried to start with her ended this early. Now she can go back to focusing on her job. People here were really strange.
