And by the way, here’s Bernie Sanders being mad as all fuck about the whole Kavanaugh situation
Sanders is not God. He’s not perfect. And he’s done and said things that I really don’t agree with. But holy fuck do I agree with everything he says here. And remember: this guy is like a million years old, and he’s been fighting for those who couldn’t since he was my age. He’s the one sane person in the Senate and in mainstream political discourse. Man I wish we had him as president instead of the current fascist.
Show this photo to your daughters as they grow up.
Show them that courage is important, even in the scariest of situations. This woman stood up and faced her fears, spoke her truth in front of a group of men while balancing the world on her shoulders. She is a hero. She is a representation for all women who are done being assaulted and abused.
I Believe Dr. Christine Blasey Ford
Show it to them because our mothers didn’t show us this one:
Who is she? Anita Hill.
What’s she doing here? Testifying about the sexual misconduct of then supreme court nominee Clarence Thomas aka now the most senior justice on the Supreme Court.
Please Learn About Her
It’s generally understood that Donald Trump intends to “delegate” much of the grunt work of the presidency to his vice president, Mike Pence. This will be especially true on cultural issues, which Trump doesn’t care about but half of the Republican base does. In terms of social policy, a Trump administration will be a Pence administration. And that should be terrifying. In a famous interview on ABC News, Pence refused to say whether his “religious liberty” law, one of the worst in the nation, would or wouldn’t allow businesses to discriminate against gays, despite being prompted six times by George Stephanopoulos. Pence refused to say whether it’s OK to fire gay people for being gay. He has endorsed the horrifying and ineffective practice of ‘gay conversion therapy.’ But those specific examples really are just the superficial symptoms of a much deeper, and sincere, religious conservatism. This isn’t meant to demean Pence’s views; it’s not about homophobia, or some kind of pathology. These positions reflect what Pence, like 30 percent of Americans, sincerely believe is the right way forward for America: a return to traditional “Judeo-Christian” values and morality. And that is the foundation for hundreds, perhaps thousands, of policies. A Trump-Pence administration will promote creationism and “traditional” sexual/gender norms in schools, end funding for HIV prevention and research, return us to the Reagan-Bush days of abstinence-only education, increase faith-based initiatives and funding to conservative religious organizations, and undertake a thousand tiny actions that won’t make the headlines but will gradually turn back the clock of America’s moral progress. Pence doesn’t think it’s been progress; he thinks that our new freedoms are a sign of moral decay.
A Trump-Pence Presidency Would Be a Disaster for LGBT People | Jay Michaelson for the Daily Beast (via gaywrites)
The point about Hillary Clinton vs. Donald Trump: An overtly qualified woman still has to prove herself against an utterly unqualified angry loud-mouthed white guy.
Christ, those debates were embarrassing to watch.
She was just plain smarter than him. Too quick. Too clever.
And everyone knew it.
I’m re-posting this comic because I live in America.
Here, the places I love most in the world are gripped by drought. I’m thinking of giving away my winter tracking guides because there’s never enough snow. Climate change is knocking on our door, and the fact that it’s already so evident is a bad sign: it means that we’re headed for a lot more warming.
But we can deal with this, people. We’re brilliant. We’re brave. What we need - besides some kinda magical cooling ray - is a batch of elected officials who are ready to be brave alongside us.
If climate change bums you out, don’t lose heart: it means you’re strong. You’ve personally confronted a huge issue. Why let yourself be governed by scared people who can’t face it, who equivocate and attack scientists and hide their heads in the sand?
My brave dear friends: let’s get our climate vote on.
it’s official. no one can ever complain about millenials ever again. we may be killing the cereal industry but at least we’re not killing the country uwu
I think I’m finally actually processing the election results. And it’s not what trump can do as president that scares me the most. It’s the people who believe in him. The racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic people who voted him into that office. Because there are so many. And by voting for him, they have committed an act of violence. And nothing is stopping them.
It’s not just Trump and his power that are a threat to me and mine and all the minorities in this country. It’s his supporters and the legitimacy he lends to them by his position of power.
“Oh haha you shouldn’t be worried about Trump, they’re just people who have different opinions than you.” :^)
No.
Wanting to take away women’s health rights is not an opinion.
Wanting to take away LGBT+ rights is not a opinion
Wanting to take away healthcare for millions of people is not an opinion
Wanting to deport millions of people is not an opinion
Wanting to stop fighting climate change is not a fucking opinion.
These are not opinions. They are malicious wants in order for the straight white man to have power in the country again. These are delusional, destructive wants to take away other people’s rights. They. Are. Not. Opinions. If. You. Take. Away. The. Rights. Of. Other. People.
If you support Trump in any way, unfollow me and block me. I’m not interested in hearing your defense, I’m not interested in hearing your voice of reason, I’m not interested in hearing your heard-it-all-befores tucked neatly behind your bigotry. You stand behind a racist, a sexist, a homophobe, a transphobe, a xenophobe, a classist, a fascist. You stand behind a man who openly mocked a disabled news reporter; a man who has stated that sexual assault in the military should be expected because, “What did these geniuses expect when they put men and women together?”; a man who called all Mexicans rapists and drug smugglers; a man who was sued in 1973 by the Justice Department (twice) for not renting to black applicants; a man who called for a ban of all Muslims coming into the United States; a man who is endorsed by David Duke, a former leader of the KKK; a man who is openly against gay marriage; a man whose Vice President, Mike Pence, wants to fund for conversion therapy and believes that it should be legal to introduce electroshock therapy to minors in the LGBT community, (despite it being proven that LGBT teens are more than eight times as likely to commit suicide after being exposed to conversion therapy); a man who wishes to control the bodies of women by illegalizing abortion and defunding Planned Parenthood, a foundation that is centered around education for women’s health and provides for a safe place for women to get abortions as well as other STI and HIV prevention; a man who is accused by 12 women of sexual assault, a man who has been accused of raping a minor alongside Jeffrey Espein (a billionaire and a registered Level Three sex offender) in 1994, a man with a substantial amount of evidence that proves he raped a minor in 1994.
You are placing your faith in a racist. You are placing your faith in a sexist. You are placing your faith in a homophobe. You are placing your faith in a rapist. You’ve seen the evidence, you’ve heard the witnesses, you’ve had the time to read up on the long history of misogyny and discrimination and bigotry. You have seen his belligerence, you have seen his recklessness, you have seen his injustice first-hand. Yet, despite all the resources being given to you, despite all the exposure to his wrongdoings, despite all the cries of White-Supremacy and Misogyny that the public has been vocal about for years, you are silent. You do nothing to address this. This tells me that you are either blindly placing your trust into a leader you know nothing about, that you are incapable of nothing more than surface-level thinking, or this tells me that you condone this type of behavior. You condone the acts of a violent racist, sexist, homophobe, and rapist. You sympathize with the acts of a violent racist, sexist, homophobe, and a rapist.
This is not about freedom of speech. This is not about the right to your opinion. This is personal on every degree. As a supporter of Trump, you are telling me that I do not have a right to my own body. As a supporter of Trump, you are telling me that you would rather me be electrocuted than be a part of the LGBT community; you would rather me be dead than part of the LGBT community. As a Trump supporter, you are telling me that the segregation of black people is an action that is forgiven. As a Trump supporter, you are telling me that the exclusion of Muslim people in a nation that constitutes the right to religious freedom is acceptable. As a Trump supporter, you are telling me that to every, and to all degrees, you do not care about the rights of women, people of color, or the LGBT community. As a Trump supporter, you are telling me that my life—that the lives of my best friends, the lives of my fellow LGBT community, the lives of my colored brothers and sisters do not matter to you. You stand behind a man who perpetrates hate, and has done this his entire life, and you do nothing, because deep down, you mirror his hatred.
A vote for Trump is a vote for hatred. I refuse to give time to anyone who supports Trump. I refuse to give the time of day to someone who is knowingly supporting a man who openly hates my existence as a bisexual woman, a man who openly hates my friends of color simply for being non-white. No amount of reasoning will justify why you follow a man who openly hates the existence of this many people. No amount of reasoning will justify his hatred, or your own. This has long stopped being a political bias, this has long stopped being about who’ll make a better president. I am exhausted by his hatred. I am exhausted by the massive amount of Trump supporters who feel that it is now acceptable to be openly prejudice at such an amplitude. I am exhausted that at the end of 2016, my sisters and I have to scream to convince people that our bodies belong to us, not to the men of political power. I am exhausted that at the end of 2016, I still have to scream to convince people that I am a valid member of this community no matter who I love. I am exhausted that at the end of 2016, my best friends will still have to scream to convince racists that they are valid members of this community no matter their skin color.
I am unwilling to associate with anyone who excuses this type of behavior. I am unwilling to associate with anyone who willfully overlooks this type of behavior. Ignoring the problem does nothing for the victim, but gives validation to the accused that, because no one will call the accused out for the crime, the accused may continue without fault or consequence. Ignoring the problem makes you part of the problem.
Facebook is just a total hot mess today.
