Being an author on tumblr might be worse than being an artist on tumblr. I’ve had a bit of both worlds and it’s ROUGH on the author side of things.

With artists it’s really just bots. No one actually seems interested in your work, but with writing it’s different. Anyone will take one look at a post and be like “oh I would love to beta read this” “can you message me privately?” “Im looking for more author friends!”

It’s all fake. Tumblr is not where you go for help being an author.

I paid for beta reading services from someone who messaged me once. It was probably a scam!! All their feedback was praise, and it was clear they got nothing from reading my book. It’s all fake! And it’s probably AI too!! Don’t listen. Just like the bots they’re not real. They may be nicer, they may SEEM real but they’re not.

Because when they finished they kept bugging me. They just want your money even if you’ve already paid.

Someone pretended to be a real author wanting to make friends and they wanted nothing to do with actual writing.

People commented on a post that includes an excerpt from my book that is ALREADY PUBLISHED and wanted to beta read because they didn’t care to check the LINK TO THE BOOK ON THE POST.

It is FAKE. It is ALL FAKE. Don’t respond. Tumblr is not the place to find beta readers, editors, or people to help you “market your book”

You DON’T need them.

“Alright, alright. Sorry for hitting you, Harrison—”

“HOW DO YOU KNOW MY NAME!”

“YOUR FRIEND SAID IT LIKE FORTY TIMES!”

“SHUT UP!”

“Harry…” Archie grabbed Harrison’s hand, which was balled up in a fist.

Po coughed to get everyone’s attention. It was leading time.

“Alright then. Since you apologized so nicely to the first mate, I officially give you immunity from pirate attacks on ONE condition!” Po decided.

“WHA—“ Harrison started and was interrupted by Archie, covering his mouth with his hand. Harrison started chewing on the sleeves.

“That— that’s not.” The stranger was very confused by the interaction between Archie and Harrison. He shook his head and addressed Po, “What’s the condition?” He asked with a smile.

“You tell me your name and you NEVER ask about the backpack again!” Po exclaimed. Harrison spat Archie’s sleeve out of his mouth. Archie shook it off and mumbled to Bea.

“How are his teeth so sharp? There are holes in my sleeve now!”

“I shaved them to look like shark teeth,” Harrison said, clearly having overheard.

“How did I never—” Po started. “Whatever, that’s another jar of dirt.”

“You mean can of worms?” The stranger asked.

“No.”
