Last days in Nha Trang.

The dive shop I work for just turned ten years so the owners of the shop took the staff for a holiday to Dak Lak last weekend. On Saturday we visited a gorgeous waterfall where we also went for a swim. We stayed the night in a traditional wooden house and had a nice dinner and a party in the evening. On Sunday we visited a local village and saw some elephants. Big part of the trip was sitting in a sweaty bus but it was nice to go out of Nha trang for a little bit and see the country side of Vietnam.

Hello and sorry for the long silence! After Cambodia I came back to Nha Trang, Vietnam to do my assistant instructor course. I'm doing the course as an internship so I stay here for 2 and half months studying and working at the same time. The work is mainly helping with the equipment and customers on the boat almost every day and selling dives at the office couple of times a week. Now that I've done my dive guide course I'm also guiding customers underwater which I really enjoy. I have a day off once a week and on my free time I usually study, go to the beach or hang out with friends from the dive shop. So in a nutshell, life is good here. Diving is fun, people are nice, food is amazing and beer cheap.

Last post from Angkor wat. I enjoyed so much walking around the temples listening the sounds of the jungle, sweating in the heat and being mesmerized by the beauty of this place.

I spent three days exploring the temples of Angkor Wat with Amelie and Mathias from France and our amazing local tuktuk driver Piset. It was definitely one of the highlights of my trip so far and I took hundreds of pictures so the next few posts are all going to be from there.

One day in Koh Rong me and Mario were playing at the beach when a local father with his four kids stopped by us on their way from school to home. The kids were really excited about the instruments so we let them play rockstars for a while. When their father finished smoking his cigarettes they all climbed on one motorbike, waved us goodbye and drove off.

I was sitting in a restaurant in Sihanoukville and I saw a very familiar looking girl. Her brain worked faster than mine and soon she came to give me a hug and we started laughing. She's Caren from Brazil and I had met her in my hostel in Ulan Bator, Mongolia in the beginning of December. According to her original plans she would've been now in China and my plan was to be already in Thailand or Malaysia by now but we both ended up being in Cambodia, Sihanoukville in the same small restaurant. How amazing is that? It was so nice to see Caren again and catch up!

One day in Koh Rong me, Camilla and Mario hiked to a beach on the other side of the island. It was a fun and sweaty hike and the beach was beautiful!

In the bus to Sihanoukville I met this cool bunch of fellow travelers, Camille and Anton from Germany, Mario from Spain, Joao from Portugal and Laurence from UK. In Sihanoukville we rented scooters and explored the beautiful beaches of the peninsula. After Sihanoukville we went to the island of Koh Rong. On my last day Camille gave me this amazing Polaroid pic taken on our first beach day together. I love it!

After Vietnam I travelled to Phnom Penh Cambodia. My time in Phnom Penh wasn't very joyous, but it was educational. It is a city full of temples, palaces, trash, prostitutes and drugs. On my second day I went to the Tuol Sleng genocide memorial to learn more about the history of this country. Tuol Sleng was once a grade school but Khmer Rouge turned it into a prison and torture chamber for 20 000 enemies of the revolution in 1975. Almost everyone who entered died. I wandered several hours in the memorial and listened to every story available in my audio guide. I learnt a lot but also wasn't on my best mood for the next couple of days.

Ho Chi Minh city (former Saigon) was awesome! I had just two days there but I spent them well driving a scooter in the crazy traffic, drinking sugar cane juice to get some refreshment in the heat and learning about Vietnams interesting history at the memorial of the Buddhist monk who burnt himself on the street of Saigon for the religious freedom and at the Vietnamese American war museum. Last picture is of my travel buddy James, who traveled with me through Vietnam. Thank you for the company and for the all awesome scooter rides!

I wanted out of China fast so I didn’t apply for a visa to Vietnam. I thought that the 15 days Finnish people get at the border for free would be enough, but it definitely wasn’t. I fell in love with Vietnam and it was such a shame I had to rush through it. Pictures 1 & 2 are from Hanoi, 3-5 from Hoi An, picture 6 is from my dive trip in Nha Trang (great day!) and 7 & 8 of the crazy traffic and beautiful buildings of Ho Chi Minh city (Saigon). Vietnam, I'll be back!
