jonathan harker on may 12th: i witnessed with abject terror as the count descended the sheer stone wall of the castle face first as a lizard would. the unmitigated horror of the spectacle haunts my waking hours like an inescapable nightmare. this man or this thing shall surely be my undoing.
jonathan harker on may 15th: saw the old bastard do the crawling trick again and honestly fuck him it's not even that impressive i don't even care anymore i hope he falls.
happy old bastard crawling trick day
Saltwater mermaid and freshwater mermaid fall in love. Once a year, when the saltwater mermaid's migration brings them together, they meet in the estuary and fall in love all over again
Every spring she becomes despondent and agitated. We poke fun at her, but we make sure she knows it comes from a place of love. The younglings have even started taking turns out near the edge of the sea, listening for the distant song of the pod of the sea clan.
When the song does come (it is hauntingly beautiful, unlike any of our own songs), the pod is still many days away, but there are many preparations to make. We can't say we fully understand, but the river clan loves a party and this is as good an opportunity as any.
The youth collect crabs and clams from the marshes. The pod must think it so quaint, our simple local fare, but they always partake in the feast with great zeal, bringing their own contribution of squid and the fast muscular fish that live so far away beyond our shores.
The crones tut over the bride-to-be as they weave her wedding veil from the finest strands of river grass (never mind that the bride has been wed to her maiden from the sea every spring for going on twelve years now).
We all collect shells and arrange them around her wedding bower. She chooses the finest of them for her bridal exchange (a point of pride for the winning collector who may brag about it long into the winter).
When the day finally comes, the pod gathers out in the sea, cavorting in the waves and singing their strange songs. Their songs and ways are still strage to us, and our songs must be equally strange to them, but we reply in kind. We sing our wedding songs with inflections borrowed from their dialects and they do the same.
We wait at the mouth of the river and send forth the bride, bedecked in her veil and strings of river pearls and snail shell, radiant and beautiful as the first time they were wed.
The sea clan sends their own bride into the brackish. They are larger than us, fat and muscular, built for life in the open water. The daughter of the sea is something fierce to behold, scarred and powerful, but she always looks upon our daughter with the tenderest gaze.
The two meet alone while we watch from the edges of our waters. They exchange necklaces. Ours a single shell, theirs hundreds of beads, one for each day apart: abalone and shark teeth and red coral and all manner of thing from every corner of the world.
We take turns calling the words, ours and theirs, two ceremonies syncretized into something new and beautiful and unique. And then, vows renewed, river clan and sea clan become one. We are one family until moon and tide signal them to move on in their migration until the next spring.
We meet in the estuary, neither side fully comfortable in the halfway salinity, but we love our daughters, and they love each other. We exchange food and stories and music, our two clans, and we celebrate long into the night.
At some point, the two brides slip away, and well… what they get up to is their own business.
no weapons against me shall prosper
i hate that concerns about urban gardening/foraging safety is often met with "What are you, a cop?" scorn. I believe it's a suspicion of anything that hinders the punk/anti-system urgency to jump in immediately and do whatever feels right.
Safety, ethics, and sustainability are all a part of urban gardening and foraging. I'm sorry that means you need to do homework before you can do anything, I know that sounds lame. But life is complicated.
I know anti-intellectualism is viewed as activist these days, but like, surely you don't want to literally eat lead, right?
Let’s check in and see how those rascally solarpunk kids are doing, surely they’ve learned by now that…..
Daily reminder: Leafy greens like kales uptake all those delicious heavy metals in urban soils like lead and cadmium.
Don’t eat sidewalk-crack kale.
Here's some cool references from the EPA on safe urban gardening:

As a young adult, I used to think what messed me up as a kid was having completely unfiltered access to things I wasn’t ready for, like NSFW content, gore, heavy discourse, and the existence of predatory adults online. But now that I’m older, I see it differently.
The problem wasn’t what I had access to. It was that I didn’t have access to a safe adult I could actually talk to; someone I could trust to help me without immediately cutting me off from everything and everyone. I remember getting messages from strangers on Skype. I didn’t even respond. But when my parents found out, they banned me from using it entirely. That meant losing most of my contact with friends outside of school. So what did I do? I went behind their backs. And once I was hiding, I couldn’t tell them when something actually dangerous was happening, like when I started being groomed. By the time things escalated, I was already alone with it.
I think about an episode of Scared Straight where a girl was dragged through a prison because she’d been talking to adult men online. She wasn’t doing that because she was reckless or malicious; she was lonely. Her parents weren’t present, she was being bullied at school, and these men gave her attention, told her she was pretty, told her she mattered. She was already being harmed. And the adults in her life responded by terrorizing her. Humiliating her. Calling her a slut. Telling her she deserved it. Breaking her to pieces.
What lesson does that actually teach? Not “this is dangerous, come to us.” It teaches: If you get hurt, we will hurt you more. Do you really think that makes her stop, or does it just make the predators look safer by comparison? They might as well have driven her straight into the jaws of those predators with torches and pitchforks. Because when every path back to safety is lined with punishment, kids don’t run away from danger. They run deeper into it.
If you want kids to be safe, stop treating them like problems to control and start treating them like people worth protecting. Stop ripping away their autonomy the second they make a mistake or encounter something risky. Stop teaching them that honesty will cost them everything.
Be the person they can come to without fear of losing their entire world. Because safety isn’t built through control, it’s built through trust. And if you aren’t safe for them to tell the truth to, then you aren’t keeping them safe at all.
The other day, I met Suicune in Dream Island, but I wonder how we got home together.
Long time no post. Keir should just scruff Griff one of these days

I recently got news of a terrible political change taking effect in India. A new Anti-Trans bill has been passed. Under this new bill, transgender existence is redefined, turned "concrete". Gender self-identification has become legally unacceptable. Only intersex and kinner-hijra people are recognized by law, which is good in principle, but it's only a trap when it comes with the criminalization of every other trans identity.
Anyone that allows their children to be themselves, as well, may be charged and prosecuted under "child allurement". Textbook queerphobia.
Many people are protesting, and I'm joining in. I am not Indian myself, yet, The Ships of Men is entirely inspired by Indian queerness, culture, art and diversity. Vihaan is a non-binary person. Sanath is also non-binary. These characters are transgender, like many Indian people in real life.
This universe would not be what it is without all of these people, all of you. It is thus my duty to raise awareness, and share some donation links for trans protection organizations in India.

BREAKING NEWS
Tragically, Juno falls under Griff's type. An unfortunate event for all parties involved.
not to be insane or i guess who gaf since i won’t see the discourse on my own posts anymore but corporations have been systemically and carefully breaking down our ability to communicate openly with each other for years now and every wall they put up between me and you only serves them. lol. literally art is the only thing that is keeping us from becoming actual mindless drones in the face of crushing work/layoffs/AI/corporate takeover of all means by which we create and distribute art and if that breaks down then we become easier to sell to, easier to control, etc. so just keep creating and don’t let them win. as for this fuck ass update, if you like something someone has created, send them an ask or leave a direct comment. let’s just encourage each other and keep creating, fuck everything else. Corporations trying to destroy art and culture literally just another tuesday. Send someone an ask if you see this and tell them how much their art means to you
TUMBLR'S RECENT UPDATE IS AWFUL AND WE SHOULD COMPLAIN LOUDER AGAINST IT.
Hey so, I thought maybe we should participate in a blackout day to protest against the new tumblr update.
Let's try March 19. So that people have time to see this and plan for it.
Do not log in or use tumblr for 24 hours on this day.
Reblog this and make a tag chain to maximise visbility—the more people aware of this awful update, the better.
Circle the date on your calendar, or set a reminder on your phone. As a bonus it will be a good break from social media. Spend the day doing things you like—start that book you've been waiting to read, go outside, watch a good movie... just do anything except open tumblr.
I think we should show tumblr that we are not happy with this update in every possible way we can.
File support tickets with feedback (SEE BELOW ON HOW TO SEND FEEDBACK), post about how this update makes you feel, reblog other's posts about this update, offer as detailed and honest feedback as possible to tumblr—WE DO NOT WANT THIS UPDATE!!
Remember that WE are the end consumers.
WE build their platform, WE fill it with posts, WE are the reason they generate revenue, WE are the reason this platform has power, and for these reasons WE should feel satisfied with the service they provide. ESPECIALLY if you pay for tumblr premium, you are entitled to make a complaint about the platform you are PAYING.
I used to like tumblr and I'd like to cling to it, but this update is just horrible. It makes me not want to continue posting at all. It is utterly demotovating as-is with my being mature labelled, but this update is just intolerable. I do not know how I will feel motivated to post at all in the future if this update is not rolled back.
I know I don't have much reach, especially with a label on, but I hope this reaches at least a few people.
Please participate if you care. Please reblog and tag people you know. Send every bit of feedback to tumblr that you possibly can.
I really don't want to see my once favorite site ruined beyond repair. I really want to continue enjoying this site. I have a community of people here which I have built over years, a community which I deeply love and appreciate and cherish interacting with. My blog thrives on being able to see feedback in reblogs on my post. The whole point of posting is that people see it and engage with it. This update is at best nonsensical and at worst, going to shred off many creators from the platform and rip apart any last bits of fun we have using it.
Tagging everyone I can think of.

What if the guys caught vesper cheating on them? Sorry I love drama lol
Francesco He's completely gutted. After everything they've been through together, it's difficult for him to understand why they did, not to mention forgiving them. He will probably try his hardest to fix the relationship anyway.
Keir It depends a bit on the severity of the cheating (ie. got high and reached third base with a cute stranger vs. "I've been secretly seeing someone else behind your back for a year and a half"). Less severe and he'll take a forgive-but-don't-forget perspective and let Vesper build up trust again. More severe and oof, the breakup will be Mouse Hole legend and he'll get properly mean when they cross paths.
Oleander Bold choice to negotiate for a closed relationship and then covertly violate that agreement. Bold, but extremely stupid. Relationship is over, do not pass go, do not collect $200.
Cirrus By the time he actually recovers from this revelation, Vesper is dead to him.
