this is SUCH a fascinating tiny glimpse of the beginning of the student council, and I’m obsessed with each of these details. rudolf used to run it entirely by herself (seemingly also implied to be the first leader of it here?). air groove became vice president because she ran against rudolf, and lost, which—I’ve talked about their fundamental conflicts before this adds like SUCH an interesting wrinkle. Rudolf’s fascination with brian’s “pure instinct”, appointing her specifically because she’s passionate about running and basically nothing else. THEIR DYNAMIC IS ALL SO WEIRD AND INTERESTING AND THIS ADDS SO MUCH… PLEASE, A WHOLE STORY ABOUT WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED HERE…

man the second half of Brian’s career fascinates me so much. even in a game full of careers that are mainly what-if stories, hers stands out as a particular kind of fantasy. the easier mode is already a fantasy enough—beat rice, tannhauser, hishiama, and then both mayano and biwa at once, back to back! get the senior autumn triple crown! all of these are required as achievements!—but the hard mode is even more so. it almost feels like someone at Cygames went “oh you like arguing about who the greatest of all time is? well I think it was narita brian at his prime, an in a word without his injury he’s gonna prove it by going up against all the other greats”. like, mcqueen, oguri, rudolf herself, and then biwa and maya. talk about an absurd requirement no other career can or would give you, and an absurd fantasy.

…….and that’s the thing. we have brian’s main story appearance. we know that’s not how that goes for her after the triple crown, not there. she doesn’t prove herself to stand singularly above every single great; in some ways, in that reality and in ours, she proves that everyone is mortal.

but in her career? it almost feels like it’s brian’s fantasy.

beat all of the racing greats. get an achievement only two other horses ever have gotten. you are required to do this for the career to count. you are required to win. you will win. dominantly. forever. that’s all you ever wanted to do.
