Let the record state that going from a DESPERATELY underserved community to a community that is just "normal" levels of underserved is an absolute mindfuck - the number of times I've sat in a meeting where people were talking about how my new community is missing very real and valid things that we should have where I've suddenly wanted to burst into tears and say, "There are more doctors in this room than there were in the entire county where I practiced a month ago

I'm sorry, but unless a sport involves a half-ton four-legged brilliantly athletic furry toddler prancing around, I just don't see the appeal

#Nevermind that I've spent so long in equestrian sports that I occasionally forget that most sports are segregated by gender #It takes me a few moments to be like WAIT WHY ARE THERE ONLY MEN and then I remember and promptly lose interest #If your sport is so uncomplicated you can be a markedly better player just by having a certain kind of biology then your sport is boring #I don't make the rules that's just how it is #Even the horses aren't normally segregated by gender in most equestrian sports nevermind the riders #I personally feel this is proof that equestrian sports are superior to other sports and require actual skill but I'm biased #And also I really hated the sportsball I was forced to play as a kid so I'm also prejudiced #Anyway I am using the fact that I have two under two as an excuse to not follow it #Just like I use it as an excuse for everything and tbh I feel it's a valid one #Feral 4-H kid #Horse 4-H kid specifically #Now I shall put my small children to bed before feeding my own half-ton prey animal toddlers #The most athletic of which are my mares

My new community is being so welcoming and I'm just over here trying not to hyperventilate as I work up the nerve to text someone to pick up seed starts they offered me, thank goodness I have a massive rosemary bush I can get cuttings from and give them in exchange

Y'all will be glad to know I showed up, took the seed starts, gave them my rosemary cuttings, and when they insisted I bring Mr. Hedgehogwnt and the kids and stay for dinner and laundry, I did

It was terrifying and we had a lovely time, so that's good

#The husband of this couple is another stay at home dad so he and Mr. Hedgehogwnt vibed #They were both fantastic and we were all kind of taking turns looking after kids #It felt very natural and smooth to me and I hope they felt that way too #We will need to invite them over soon even though we don't have our stuff #Heck the lack of stuff makes things interestingly childproof #Feral 4-H kid

If you are going to do an inadvisable amount of physical labor by lifting and moving large pieces of junk, bring a toddler - they will cheer and say "Wow!" every time you do it, and it's so motivating

#Granted my toddler is in the stage where she cheers for everything and tells everyone they're doing a good job #Or at least says Nice try! or Try again! in an enthusiastic manner #Anyway I flared my chronic back pain clearing out an old garden to turn into horse pasture but the toddler is closer to the ground #So if I needed anything on the ground I just asked her to give it to me and she was all about it #Girlie loves helping and even tried to hand me step-in fence posts #Which was terrifying on account of the massive metal spikes at the bottom but still very sweet #Feral 4-H kid #Baby Strider

Great news, everyone: My new house has a rosemary bush as tall as Mr. Hedgehogwnt

#I guess the rest is nice too but ROSEMARY BUSH AS TALL AS MY HUSBAND WHO CARES ABOUT THE REST #Srsly tho it's very nice I had not seen it before moving in and I love it #Mr. Hedgehogwnt had seen it and he thought it was fine but I really like how weird and old an quirky it is #I think it's probably been about 30 years since someone loved it and took care if it properly #We're excited to love it and take care of it properly #We are also going to turn it into a horse property which will be interesting but fun I think #Anyway clearly gardening here is both achievable and possibly even highly successful so that's awesome #Feral 4-H kid
