“Excuse? That was long time ago, Gelfling says itself! Things change. Gelfling change. Skeksi do not thirst for blood, unlike Gelfling Rian. No, Skeksi simply want to live!”

❝  𝖞𝖔𝖚  𝖆𝖓𝖉  𝖞𝖔𝖚𝖗  𝖐𝖎𝖓𝖉  only  wish  to  live  at  the  expense  of  everything  else  !  ❞  exclaims  rian  ,  the  flames  of  his  ire  stoked  by  the  skeksis’  sheer  nonchalance  .  it’s  true  that  the  shamelessness  of  the  skeksis  knows  no  bounds  ⸻  but  to  think  they  would  cover  it  under  such  a  thick  layer  of  denial  !  ❝  look  around  you  ,  chamberlain  !  do  you  not  see  the  world  dying  around  you  ?  when  the  sea  dries  out  and  the  land  breaks  ,  what  will  you  and  yours  rule  over  ?  ash  and  dust  .  you  don’t  deserve  to  live  .  you’re  cowards  .  ❞

The Chamberlain tilted his head to the side as he listened. He seemed to be thinking things over afterwards, one clawed hand curled under his beak.

In truth, the Skeksi had not ventured out far enough to really observe the extent of the damage the might or might not have been caused by their actions. Whether he truly realised the Gelfling was being truthful or not was unclear. It was possible that he chose to believe that Rian was exaggurating.

"Hmm. Perhaps Gelfling catastrophises? Perhaps land only changes, bends to will of Skeksis rule and transforms, not dies. Gelfling and others serve Skeksi lords. Should be honoured to serve!"

Wow, he was feeling really called out right then.

Was it a lucky guess, or did this Gelfling see right through his carefully enacted plans? Probably, considering this Gelfling was a primary witness. There was a very brief silence, just long enough for Skeksil to look genuinely offended thanks to a well-practiced act.

"Hm, what? Chamberlain does not wear any sheep!" he replied, putting his clawed hands to his chest. "Not I. No! Chamberlain only wants to help Gelfling!"
