UNPOPULAR OPINION: Oh, Barry... You're an IDIOT. But I get you.
I am positive I’m going to be the only one saying this, but I don’t hate Barry for “breaking up” with Iris.
Do I hate that it happened? Yes. Do I want to scream at Barry to change his mind? For sure. Am I totally heartbroken & sobbing over this? Absolutely.
But guys. This is not even a cut-and-dry break-up. This is a I-don’t-know-how-to-be-what-you-want-and-still-do-what-I-need-to-save-your-life “break up.” It’s temporary, and he laid it out that way. Catch the “for a while”? That’s NOT long term.
What Barry needs to do is figure out a way to save her (since he has yet to figure that out w/ his speed still not being as fast as it would need to be) and be the man she needs in a relationship. He can promise he’ll save her, but that doesn’t mean he has a foolproof plan in place. He can swear he loves her, but despite that very true fact, he can’t guarantee everything he does isn’t somehow connected to saving her. He needs time and space to figure out how to do both and how to make them work together. Having her in his space when he does that is a distraction and a hindrance to what he’s trying to do. He doesn’t want to screw up anymore. He wants to make sure the NEXT time is the LAST time for all of it.
I still am totally against this “break up.” However, the comment I’ve been seeing a lot is how OOC this is for Barry. Barry Allen, never in a million years would break up with the love of his life, Iris West.
Barry-madly-in-love-with-Iris-West-Allen wouldn’t.
Barry-I’m-trying-to-save-your-life-Allen would.
He kept his big secret that he was the Flash from her almost all of season 1. Joe pushed him, but to an extent, he let him. He wanted to protect her. Now he’s protecting her again. And he’s preventing all the many fights that might have come up when he would do things not out of love, when he would get so absorbed in how to save her that he’d neglect her in their own home. All he’s doing is stepping away from the relationship until he can figure out how to do right by her and to save her life.
He’s being The Flash and seeing the big picture.
Given the circumstances, I don’t think it’s OOC at all. He’s tucked his feelings away and is all business now. I imagine he feels he has to be that way until he can get a grasp on how to defeat Savitar.
Not to worry though, I’m sure seeing Millie madly in love with Tommy will kick him into gear and bring all his VERY delayed I-just-broke-up-with-Iris-I’m-an-idiot feels brimming to the surface. ;P
Barry, you a FOOL. But I get you.
agreed!
