I miss Majical Cloudz’ gut punching, barren stirring music, and I’ve been wondering what the Montreal based project has been up to as of late. Though I haven’t caught wind of anything fresh from the pair, a beautiful cover of one of my favorite Majical Cloudz tracks has surfaced. Downtown, the gently swirling, diaphanous floating gem that was featured on Netflix series The OA, has received a transcendental re-imagining by Ireland’s Lilla Vargen. She takes full advantage of the original’s melancholia as she coos over its airy light synths and tender chord progressions with soulfully pristine voice. Lilla Vargen calls Downtown one of the most beautiful and honest love songs she’d ever heard. We can’t agree more, and we’re overjoyed with how she’s drawn out Downtown’s essence in her cover. Grab the track on iTunes, here.
