Hi! Call me catty, kitcat, or some other variation of my username. I don't have a set online nickname. I use she/her pronouns.
If you're a TMR fan, read my fanfic :D
uH how do i intro post
DNI discriminatory content, radqueer, transid, generally if you believe any one group is superior to another for x reason, don't talk to me. This includes assuming a whole group is evil because certain individuals are. I’m Jewish but not pro-Israel. Judaism being the place’s main religion doesn’t make it wholly evil.
I'll sometimes color code between sentences like I'm doing now to help people who have trouble reading.
I post Maze Runner a lot! With the occasional Gone, as well as my random thoughts. Oh, oh and I like The Martian and Project Hail Mary. Got a lotta fandoms.
I OFTEN FORGET TO LIKE POSTS AND COMMENTS! I see cool thing and I am like ooooooh cool thing but I forget to like it. If I didn't like your comment or post it is because I forgot. Not personal.
I'm starting a tag system, which will be as follows. None of my posts I've already made will be tagged. Let's see how successful I am at remembering to tag stuff.
catty's random thoughts - My random thoughts
catty talks tmr - I'll try to tag anything TMR with this.
catty's AU ideas - Any time I am writing fic or having fic ideas for whatever fandom
catty reblogs - Reblogs
catty's unbridled rage - things that piss me off. idk if I need this if I also have a vent tag but let's have it also just because. Feel free to block!
catty screams into the void - Vents. Again, feel free to block!
Sona made for me by @nickotinie who is the best and whom I love. This is me.
i hate how dashner throws his own naming conventions out of the damn window.
every subject is supposed to be named after an important historical figure with some sort of relation to them, and yet Minho's (iirc) named after his son-in-law, Teresa's namesake has literally no correlation to her, Harriet's name is just plain weird and racist, and every other girl has just. a name. not one that can he attributed to one specific person in history
NOTE that I'm going off of book canon for this rant, instead of movie canon.
It feels very weird to me that Dashner puts so much effort into possible parallels between Newt and Thomas' and their namesakes, but little to none for his characters of color.
Alby was named after Albert Einstein. Einstein is possibly the most famous scientist ever, and is still thought of and revered decades after his death. Alby was forgotten damn near immediately after he died, and was barely mentioned in TMR alone. I can't find any parallel between them.
Frypan was named after SIGMUND FREUD. no known correlation between them. also the only character that only gets a name related to a historical figure after the main series was finished! (I can't really comment on the dubiousness of naming a black boy Frypan when everyone else had mostly rational names because Frypan was only confirmed to be black in tfc, much like rachel)
Minho's literally just named that to honor Dashners son-in-law.
Harriet, one of two (that i can remember, as i dont have the books with me rn) black characters who were explicitly described as black pre-TFC/movies, was named after Harriet Tubman... I don't even have to comment on that.
Rachel is mentioned so rarely and appears so briefly with such a common name that we literally can't pin her name on one person
(jeff isnt being mentioned because i can't find a description of him in the books that reference/imply him being a poc)
compare that to Thomas, who was named after Thomas Edison. Edison is described as one of the first inventors to use teamwork to invent, just as Thomas had used teamwork to build and escape the Maze, traverse the Scorch, and take down WICKED. he was also the one who went into the Maze for his friends, rather than being forced there (like the Gladers, or Rachel who had to go there because Thomas was)
Newt was named after Issac Newton, who discovered gravity. Newt "discovered" gravity when he jumped off the wall.
And it's true that Frypan and Harriet were minor characters in the books, but that doesn't change the fact that little to no effort was put into their names. And Alby and Minho were major characters in every book they were in! They deserved more thought and effort
i have BEEF with teresa being named after mother teresa. i think it was lazy. but! i do also admit that there are a few parallels.
Mother Teresa was known for her charity, as well as her accused cruelty and inadequate care of her patients. she's possibly most remembered for her dedication to the Catholic Church
teresa agnes is known within most circles of the fandom to be selfish and cruel. but, when you really look at her, you see it's quite the opposite. she dedicated her entire life to helping find the cure to the Flare, and often sacrificed her own health, happiness, and safety to benefit or save her friends (especially during her death). Every scene where she supposedly shows cruelty was where she had to, such as kidnapping Thomas so that WICKED wouldn't kill her. And for inadequate care of her patients, Teresa wasn't even a doctor! she had never worked on the other Subjects unless she was preparing them to go into the Maze or possibly touring them around the facility, as shown with Ben in TFC
Mother teresa and teresa agnes are known for a few of the same things, but have little to no relation beyond that. I propose that Teresa Agnes should've been named after Joan/Joanne of Arc, instead (which is a rant that i dont have enough battery for rn)
and whats up with the girls' names? ik the minor boys dont have many correlations to their name sakes, but the girls dont seem to have namesakes at all!
like, seriously, Beth? Rachel? Sonya? All three of these are EXTREMELY common names! how are we supposed to find who theyre named after if dozens if not hundreds of famous women had the same or similar names? he couldve at least personalized them like he did with Zart
Hemlock – The second ever leader of the Dancing Deer Pack, he’s 5 years old and currently raising his first litter of his own pups. Sunburst was the first time losing one of his ownpups at the jaws of a competitor. It was also the first time in Dancing Deer’s history that they lost a wolf to a pack led by one formerly their own.
Legend – Superstition Pack subordinate, he’s Juniper’s son. He was the one to land the killing blow on Sunburst.
Sunburst – Hemlock’s daughter, she was part of the first litter born in the pack since Hemlock’s own father and pack founder Prong died. She was killed by her aunt Juniper’s pack – Superstition.
Juniper – Hemlock’s elder sister of one year and part of the first ever litter in the Dancing Deer pack. She dispersed at age 3 late in Young Hunters of that year. Since starting her pack, she’s made herself a bothersome rival. However, this is the first time her pack has taken a life
Argent – The runt of the litter, she shared Sunburst’s pelt. She could have died herself along with her sister, in another world. But because of the savescum vision and Hemlock’s brief moment of hesitation, she’ll never know that.
Blood filled Hemlock’s mouth, matching the red haze in his vision. Legend’s fur was left between the leader’s teeth as his nephew pulled away. But he was his nephew in name alone, the Superstition Pack’s crime having severed any familial affection Hemlock had left for his sister and her pups. They were no more than regular stranger wolves now.
He fixed his eyes on Legend, he who had landed the killing blow, leaping over roots in pursuit as the memory of Sunburst’s dying scream echoed in his ears. Hemlock was fixated on one thing, and that was revenge. Nothing would stop him from obtaining it.
He remembered feeling the hot rage of battle, adrenaline pumping through his veins, hardly feeling the bite-wounds. This land was his, his and his pack’s, and he’d kill and bleed for it. He remembered his fangs buried in the neck of Juniper’s mate as the wolf struggled.
Remembered hearing his pup’s cry rise above the cacophony and spinning as his stomach dropped, rage gone, too late to call her out of the fight. He’d never meant it to go this way. Remembered seeing Sunburst fall to the ground, surrounded by Juniper and her wolves with this mongrel, this son of a traitor, standing over her with his maw dripping.
They’d see who would have a bloody maw soon. She’d see him over her pup’s body and she’d regret ever coming here. He lunged forward, teeth closing around the fleeing Legend’s leg…
A vision flashed before his eyes.
----------------------------------------
Blood in his nose, on his tongue, but it didn’t matter because the pup-killer was limping, gasping, exhausted. He did not feel his wounds, only caring for the victory mere bites away. His pack was behind him. This was it. They would never step foot in this territory again.
He lunged forward.
A sharp cry rose above the battle-snarls.
No.
He did not have to turn, because he knew her voice. Not her. Not Argent, his smallest pup, her gray and black pelt so much like Sunburst’s. Argie, the wanderer of the litter. Not again.
How could he have made the same mistake again? How could he have not watched, lost in the haze of bloodlust as his child was torn apart? Sunburst’s twin, dead in the exact same way, fallen at the fangs of his sister and her children while Hemlock fought, not hearing until it was too late.
----------------------------------------
His vision cleared. Argent’s last scream vanished from his ears, replaced by his packmates’ growls of rage. Legend tore away from Hemlock’s bite, the wolf’s black tail thrashing. He couldn’t help but stumble to a stop, still feeling the empty pit of reopened loss in his chest despite still seeing Argent’s snarl in the corner of his vision.
He shook his head, clearing the fog and giving chase, disregarding the fading…nightmare? Omen? Prophecy? Already it was vanishing, slinking back into the depths of his brain. Perhaps it was nothing at all, a figment of his mind, clouded by rage and grief.
Hemlock chased, bit, tore, until the wolf fell dead at his paws, the pack’s heads raising to howl their victory to the heavens. He lifted his leg over the body once, twice for good measure. This coyote-hearted killer deserved nothing less. But as he gazed around at his pack his eyes landed on Argent. The young hunter’s eyes were alight with triumph, joyful at the defeat of Sunburst’s killer. Whenever he looked upon her, he saw the silhouette of her sister. They were so alike, both in pelt and in mannerisms.
Hemlock had seen Sunburst fall. At the last moment before the life left her, when it was already too late. He hadn’t seen Argent fall in the vision but he knew without having to see that it would have been the same, would be the same if he ever failed her.
A gray and black wolfling, nearly seven months old. Not a pup but still too thin of pelt and lanky of limb to be called a full wolf yet. A wolfling surrounded by sharp teeth, desperately darting side to side for a gap but only met with more enemies. Her pack did not hear her cries with the rage roaring in their ears, their battle-howls only stilled when her own of pain and fear cut off.
A wolfling falling to the forest floor with the mark of teeth on her throat, too late for Hemlock to throw off her attackers.
He’d seen it with Sunburst. And now, as he gazed at Argent, full of the buzz of victory, kicking dirt over the fallen corpse, he knew he should feel something more. Some more triumph. Vindication, a sense of success. But all his mind would dwell on is what could have gone wrong. If he’d just had a quicker bite, turned in a different direction, would that horrible vision have come to pass? How close had he come? He’d never know.
I was fighting my sister's pack and when I wasn't paying attention my pup Argent died. I savescummed to bring her back and here's how it manifested in the lore.
Last year I started designing a series of Coat of Arms, themed in the spirit of Pride Month and using different mythological creatures as heraldic animals. I now aim to turn these designs into wearable pins and will be running a Kickstarter in July to fund this endeavor! I have found a very trustworthy local manufacturer, who has already shown the quality of their craftsmanship with the first batch of test pins I received, just look at the detail they were able to produce!
Since I try to support local manufacturers, which produce pins with fair wages and are more ethical than outside of Europe, the pins are more expensive to create than through the usual pipeline via Asia.
I therefore seek to crowdfund the expenses since they would be more than I can afford. If you are interested and look forward to support this little endeavor, please follow the link below to sign up for a mailing list. People who signed up on the email list and pledged during the campaign will receive an exclusive sticker set by the end of a successful launch consisting of the following designs:

I have watched the first TMR movie. They did my guy Minho so dirty. All of his sass is gone. Book Minho for the win. Give me my Frypan’s saucy-sauce moment. Also my Thomas admiring Minho’s biceps…more thominho crumbs….please….
Same with Alby, I much prefer his book self. He and Newt don’t even show much sign of being close. They took my Nalby away from me :(
And they totally changed him too outside of that. Now he’s the OG Glader! Leader from the start! Instead of a new leader struggling and this is why he’s mean. Speaking of, he’s nice now? Tis a different Alby.
BUT! I love movie Teresa wayyy more! She lit a damn Griever on fire! Fuck you James D and your ass writing of women!
I liked the Newt and Thomas campfire scene. Very homosexual of them. How I love being a multishipper. I like the bonfire tradition in general.
Overall it’s decent. The Ava Paige recording was cool.
text: [ “Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing an essay, writing a eulogy, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can’t do things we’ve been doing for 5000 years.” ]
And they're absolutely specifically pushing it, make no mistake. It's not just a matter of "it's there, it's convenient, so people are going to take the path of the least resistance", but it is a legitimate and concerted effort on the part of these companies to get people to outsource all these things to their models.
They're preying on insecurities to do it. Yes, you can write an essay - but can you write a good essay, they ask you. Do you not want to improve your output? Do you not want people to think of you as competent and very clever? Why go through the mortifying process of failing and failing and failing until you succeed if you can just skip the "learning" part of doing, and simply generate a ready-made product?
I'm preaching to the choir here obviously but it's a concerning thing to witness nonetheless. My kid is 6 next week and I've been teaching her that failing at things is morally neutral and in fact necessary even before the advent of AI, but it's becoming ever more important that we teach the kids that criticism and failure and discomfort aren't necessarily bad things, but just a part of the growth process.
AI companies are heavily invested in making themselves relevant. They want people to believe they can't do the things they have done unaided before and make them become reliant on the AI models, so the AI models' existence is artificially justified.
