“honestly, more fucking power to you because i couldn’t even dare to dream to do what you do every single day. i would most likely cry or throw up somehow, there is no in between with that,” chuckled out charlotte in disbelief. there was a lot of thing charlotte has done in her short amount of time on the planet but never did she think she would came across someone who worked in that field. there was always a first for everything. her eyes widen once whisper said that they do make noises. “nope, nope, no thank you. again, i will cry,” she laughed a bit before taking another drag of her cigarette before setting her hand back down. the blonde dancer nodded her head while she listened to whisper and she was completely right. it was only right to not smoke in front of children and anyone who wasn’t a smoker. “i mostly smoke here or at my place but outside on the balcony so our room doesn’t smell, ya feel me? or honestly anywhere i am allowed too to be real with you,” she shrugged before letting out a small laugh. “yeah, she really went all in with his ass. i am just glad we didn’t get caught. i was the getaway driver. the passenger side was wide open for her to hop in and out.” 

"i won't lie, it can be pretty gruesome and stomach churning, but i'm the one that makes them as presentable as possible. i'm really good with reconstruction, so even if they look nothing like themselves, if i get a picture of them then i can make them look as close to themselves as possible. i know to the families, they never look like how they remembered them, but from a physical standpoint i get pretty close. it's the kids and babies that really get me," she said. it took an emotional toll on her to see kids come through that were so close to her own little girl's age. she couldn't imagine what the parents felt and she never wanted to know. whisper laughed a little and nodded. "it can get pretty unnerving if you're not used to it but when you know the medical aspect it's not scary anymore," she said. "i don't smoke in my house, either. i also stay outisde for a few extra minutes so i don't drag as much of the smell inside," she said. "was he pissed? i'd be pissed. i wouldn't cheat on someone, but i'd be pissed if it happened to me. cheaters deserve it. if you get away with it, double kudos."

charlotte’s eyes widen slightly and she tilted her head to the side gently. “oh shit, really? that’s pretty crazy.” mused out the woman. she never thought she would run into someone who worked in that field. it wasn’t something that crossed her mind at all. “how do you do it with all the bodies? i’d be freaking out.” she shivered at the thought. charlotte nodded her head while she listened to whisper explain how her mother complained and about being a parent who smokes. “exactly, you’re right. my dad smokes, he always smoked outside of the house in the backyard. he would always make sure that he was far away from me and my mom when he sparked up. plus she always made him chew gum before he came in.” she laughed at the old memory of her parents. “it’s fucking sad to be honest with you. we women can def hurt the other one way more. my friend once slashed all of her ex’s tires and smashed his windows. granted he cheated on her with his college teacher so i get it.” 

“you get desensitized, honestly. of course it’s still heavy on the heart with certain cases, but as far as seeing bodies and doing the actual work, it’s like muscle memory. i still get emotional when i get a kid or a tragic case, but for the most part, i see bodies every day so it’s just another day at work for me. i still try to be as respectful as possible though, it’s really an art in a weird way,” she explained. “we also don’t get very many creepy things that happen. like body just randomly sitting up? that doesn’t happen. that’s a movie thing. they do make noises sometimes, but it’s just gasses releasing so it makes it sound like they’re groaning.” she’d always been interested in the death industry because her best friend’s family owned a funeral parlor in their house when they were growing up, so they were in and out and around it almost every day. “i personally don’t care who smokes where, but it’s kind of a common courtesy thing to not smoke where it’s gonna hit kids in the face, or anyone else that isn’t a smoker. or distance yourself, yanno? like these alleys, it’s the perfect place. i won’t smoke on the sidewalk, or even in designated smokers areas if it’s not completely blocked off from the non-smokers areas, but that’s just my personal preference,” she said. “oh damn, she went carrie underwood on him. i don’t think i could ever do something like that, but kudos to her for standing her ground. cheaters don’t deserve the respectful breakup.”

“are you also a dancer?” the woman questioned, looking over at the fem beside her. there was so many gentlemen clubs in las vegas, she didn’t know all of the dancers besides the ones who worked in synn with her. charlotte let out a small chuckle before bringing the cigarette back between her lips for a inhale then exhale. “my mom would literally kill me if she finds me with this between my lips,” she shook her head. her mom would have a heart attack if she known where charlotte was and doing with her life. no one would have saw this coming from her. the dancer nodded her head before looking back towards the club. “it’s scary anywhere you go when you’re a female in the world, isn’t it? people are fucking wild.” 

whisper shook her head. "furthest thing from a dancer. i'm a mortician," she said. it was a pretty popular club spot, there were dancers everywhere, so it wasn't surprising that she was asked. she smiled and nodded as she took a drag. her mother was the same way. she knew she smoked, but constantly complained about it. "my mom's like that. she knows i'm a smoker, but she hates it. she's like 'you shouldn't smoke, you have a daughter' as if parents don't smoke? it's not like i do it in the house, i'm always outside and if she's outside too i just keep my distance. it's common sense," she said. "it's pretty screwy that a gender has to be more careful than another, yanno? it's insane. could you imagine if it was the other way around? it should be, honestly. females are a the ones to fear, we get insane if you cross us wrong."

“oh,” mumbled out the blonde woman. “yeah, just a bit. work was a bit crazy as fuck tonight. something i wasn’t expecting to happen.” she said in response to the woman while she brought up her cigarette back to her glossy lips for another drag. she placed her hand back down while the other woman lit one of her own. “well, it looks like we’re both look like we’re fine with that in the end. i was going to offer you my lighter but i see you.” she hummed before bring it back to her lips, inhaling then exhaled out the cloud of smoke. “i’m angel,” she greeted with her stage name. “what bring you down this way?” 

"i've had work nights like that," she said. in a completely different way, though. there were always surprises or unexpected things at her job. "my mom complains that i contradict myself when i give people advice. i tell my sister all the time that smoking's a gross habit, but mom's all 'you can't give her advice when you go against it yourself'. but i mean... do as i say, not as i do, yanno? it's good advice. i just don't put it into action," she said with a sarcastic chuckle. "i'm whisper," she said. "i'm just on my way home. this is just a back way so i don't have to walk on the sidewalk and risk getting splashed with puddles. or getting mugged."

it was only a half an hour before closing, the bar never really died down but to her surprise, jordyn found a sacred five minutes to herself. breathing a slow sigh of relief, the brunette turned behind her and grabbed a bottle off the extensive liquor shelves. almost mindlessly she poured a half glass of bowmore - a beautifully aged 52 year old scotch. jordyn geller could say a lot about her boss, but his taste in alcohol was absolutely impeccable. that was evident as she cautioned herself not to kill the entire glass because of how smooth it was. the sound of a bar stool pulling out brought the femme back to reality and mechanically turned her awareness to the person occupying the chair and beaming a smile over in their direction. “what can i get you, babe?” she asked, placing her hands on the bar top with an ever so slight tilt of her head.

she was here with her sister, but she’d lost her in the crowd. she’d find her again eventually, but she needed a break from the commotion. she’s wasn’t super comfortable with the setting to begin with --- she’d much rather just sit at the bar all night than be surrounded by a bunch of sweaty people grinding against each other. since the place was closing soon, she figured she might as well take a breather and just be thankful she’d be in her bed in about an hour, providing she’s able to find her sister, wherever she ran off to. “just a water please. i’m the driver tonight.”

it happened for the first time tonight but it was the first time that it ever happened to charlotte. usually they get angry girlfriends, fiancés or wives. one rare odd time they had gotten an upset mother. but tonight a wife had busted into the club and looked for the young woman. apparently, she had gotten word about the blue eyed angel from his emails to his friends and what they were up to that night. charlotte was in the middle of a dance in the vip rooms with the man when she had gotten a drink dumped all over her head and was about to get hit when the woman and her husband were removed from the club. once everything was set and done, charlotte was escorted to the back where she showered up and changed into something more comfortable. grabbing a pack of cigarettes from her backpack, she walked out to the back. lighting up, she leaned against the wall and took a long drag of the cigarette. “huh?” charlotte looked up when she heard a voice. 

“i asked if you’re okay,” she repeated. “you seem a little down.” whisper hadn’t witnessed what happened --- she wasn’t even in the club, she was just walking the back way from the mortuary because she didn’t drive to work. thankfully she only lived ten minutes away on foot. “those things’ll kill you, yanno,” she said, hypocritically lighting her own. should she be smoking? no. not with her health issues, but she’d never been a heavy smoker.

it was odd to stella, to be in a hotel and to not be working. it was her day off, and here she was resisting cleaning up even the smallest of messes. she had to force herself to get out of that damn lobby, heading outside to the bar. of course, she already knew all the bartenders names, and they already knew her usual. taking a sip of her vodka seltzer, she kept her eyes from wandering, even as someone sat next to her. stella liked to talk, and she was pretty good at it. she worked in this very hotel after all, she was used to making conversation with strangers, even if most days they just saw her as an employee. “so, what’s your drink?” she asked the person next to her, shooting them a soft smile.

it was a rough day at work today. she hoped she’d never have to go through the tragedy the family she serviced today had gone through. when she got to work after being called in, she broke down in tears when she saw what had happened. she still wasn’t over it. she wasn’t a very emotional person, but this one hit her hard. so after work, she stopped by the bar before she headed home. as she sat on the stool, staring at the bar top as her mind reeled, she quickly looked at the other girl. “anything with a kick that won’t leave me incapable of driving home,” she said.

“how about we don’t use foul language or call people names in front of my very impressionable six-year-old?” she said, placing her hands over her little girl’s ears. “you weren’t an eyewitness. so even if this does actually go to court, you’re not a reliable source. no judge is going to side with her anyways. i’ve got this.”

“She sounds like my niece. Sass being passed down is not at all bad. There are worse things that can get passed down. She should meet Anya, I think they’d get along, if only for the sass.” He smiled at that and hummed. “Fancy a hangout then? I could use an opinion on some of the new changes I’m thinking about for the bar.”

“she likes making new friends. we can totally set up a play date or something,” she said before nodding. “yeah, sure. i don’t have anywhere i need to be and i haven’t had a curfew since i was sixteen. we can do that.”

“That’s such a fun age. Fun for her I’d think it’s not so much for you? What I wouldn’t give to be six again. I understand and that’s amazing. Is she the type to have vocalised wanting a sibling or something? That’s how my sisters were apparently.” He nodded and chewed on his lower lip. “Are you needing to go right now? I could offer you a drink on the house. Non alcoholic if that’s what you prefer.”

"it really is. she's really not a badly behaved kid, she's just really sassy. she gets it from not only me, but my sister. she's surrounded by sass, so it's only right she gets some of it handed down to her," she said. "she's definitely asked if she'll ever have a brother or sister. and i always tell her i don't know, we'll just have to see," whisper said. "no, i'm free. kiddo's with her auntie for the day."

cleo’s brow arched up as the listen to whisper explain why she was threatened to get sued. her facial features relaxed with a small laugh. “and what exactly was this woman trying to prove in a court case over children clothing? some people really have no common sense or fashion sense for that matter. thank god for you being that person on her side. she really fucking needed that i bet. so this was her mother?” 

“she’s just mad because she was told off in front of a bunch of people and embarrassed for being called out,” whisper said. “i can’t imagine how negative that little girl’s life is with her as a mother. i just hope she has someone she can go to and that she has someone that makes her happy and supports her. even if she hadn’t been wearing the tank top and leggings, that’s no reason to call your own child a slut. or anyone, for that matter, but especially not your own.”

“honestly, it’s a shame parents don’t get in trouble with the law for verbally abusing their kids. some of them deserve to be tossed in jail with some of the things they say to their babies. i could never imagine being like that. my worst fear when i got pregnant was that i’d be a bad mom, i can’t imagine purposely saying something to her to hurt her feelings,” she said. “my parents weren’t ‘a plus’ type parents, but they never belittled me. unless i got a grade lower than a b. the it was ‘you can’t do better than that, don’t start slacking off’. that was about the worst they ever said, and even that wasn’t bad. that’s just a normal parent thing to say. i wish i had the guts to actually hit someone, a lot of people deserve it. if i was the hitting type, i would have been in so much trouble in middle school. i was an angry child back then. and high school.”

“yeah, kinda like when people only listen to part of what you’re saying but then ask a question that was answered before it was asked?” whisper said, raising an eyebrow. “did you... ignore the part where i said i’m being threatened to be sued because i told a woman to not call her child a slut? cause i said that.”

“that’s just…super gross,” bo grimaced. he was never really a fan of kids but he had firsthand experience in shitty parents who liked to make their kids feel pretty worthless. “that doesn’t even sound bad at all. i’ve seen people wearing basically nothing on the strip. if she’s got a problem with scantily clad women, maybe she should head back to arkansas or whatever bible belt state she came from.”

“it’s disgusting. no parent should talk to their child that way. if the kid didn’t have the tank top and leggings on, i can understand a ‘go change your clothes, you’re not wearing that in public’, but calling her a slut when she’s completely covered? and she’s only thirteen? even if she wasn’t thirteen, that’s no way to talk to your own kid. i would never treat my baby like that,” she said. “hey, now. there’s nothing wrong with the bible belt. and it’s not only in arkansas. not all religious people are as poisonous as this woman --- at least in my experience, most of them keep their mean thoughts to themselves and then just gossip about it later.”

“i called her a disgusting parent for berating her child. so she wants to sue me for ‘slander’. even though she called her kid a slut and made her cry. like i know it wasn’t my business, but i wasn’t just gonna let her mom destroy her like that. my parents never talked to me that way but i remember kids in school running their mouths and that hurt enough, let alone coming from a parent,” whisper said. “i would have if i didn’t have shadow with me. i hate having to be a good role model sometimes, i wish it was acceptable to just... smack someone across the face for being stupid.”

Guy listened as his eyes focused on the other, a small smile spread over his features as he could tell that she knew more about being a good parent than most parents out there. She reminded him of his own mother in a way. “How old is your kid? Do you only have one?” He found it a little interesting to talk with people who had children. Given that he hardly thought about it in terms of his own life. “Not too bad either. I’ve just been hanging these flyers around for the bar for about an hour or so. The downside of having absolutely nothing to do before actually going into work. I wander aimlessly trying not to lose my mind waiting for the sun to go down. If it was more socially acceptable I’d have the bar open all day. There’s more day drinkers out there I just know it.”

“she just turned six, but she acts like she turned sixteen,” she said with a small laugh. “just the one. i hope i’ll have more eventually, but she’s perfect for now,” whisper said. “i don’t have a set schedule at work, so i don’t really have a specific time to do anything. i’m constantly on call so i almost never have a day off. if i did, i’d be a day drinker myself.”

“Pretty sure you’re this kid’s saviour. Not many people would step in in fear of the parent going off.” He hummed low and slightly nodded his head. “They’d deserve it. There’s a lot of things that parents nowadays think they can get away with. Just because they are older doesn’t necessarily mean they know better.” Guy rearranged the flyers that were currently tucked in his arms as he put weight on his right leg. “You seem like the type to be one of those cool moms that really only want the best for their kid. Aside from the lady from hell, how’s the day treating you?”

“yeah, i don’t fear anyone. especially when i know i’m right about something. no child should have to take that kind of slander from their own parent,” she said. “exactly. i get other parents at my daughter’s school that tell me they know better because they have children older than mine. being a parent longer has nothing to do with it. i know what’s best for my kid, and that’s different than what’s best for theirs. mine’s old enough to make her own decisions. certain things i still make her ask permission for or to at least let me know about something, but she calls the shots. her body, her choice, her life --- how are your kids supposed to learn if you don’t let them make mistakes, yanno? this momma didn’t raise a spoiled brat. just a regular brat,” whisper said with a small laugh. “my daughter’s friends call me cool, but i don’t think she thinks i’m as cool as they do. but we have a mutual respect for each other. we’re able to be friends without my parental side being clouded,” she explained. “not too bad so far, i just had the afternoon off work so i decided to get out of the house for a while. how’s yours?”
