Human Face Modelling in Autodesk Maya
Now a days i am working to model a human body in 3d software Autodesk Maya. i am learning this modelling under the guidance of Mayur Jaiswal (faculty of modelling in MAAC, preet vihiar). This is the first time i am doing human modelling in the 3d software.
First of all for the human modelling we should have the knowledge of the human anatomy like which muscle is going where and how muscles are connected in our body. Human anatomy is not easy to understand. human bodies are very complicated, here we are modelling just the mesh of the human.
Face modelling of a human or a any other organic character is somehow different from other non organic modelling. we have to create loops in the body of the character so that at the time of rigging and weight painting the mesh can connect properly to the body of the character. we should create loops on the body properly so that only the connected mesh can only perform animation not other parts. loops perform very important role in the animation of the character.
some artists first make the character in the Zbrush (sculpting software) and than bring it to the Maya for retopology (loops are created on the mesh for the rigging and animation) while some artists first made the character with the proper retopology and than bring to the Zbrush or any other sculpting software to put further small details in the mesh.
Before this I didn't know how eyes or ears are created in the 3d software, so here I have created eyeballs using the sphere whose center is the our eyeball center. we have to adjust the eyeball sphere from both front and side views so that it look proper like human.
the last step in the creation of the eyes is to create the cavity for the eyes. To create the cavity for the sphere of eyeballs, just extrude the edges of the inner side of the eyes and pack the eyeball sphere inside this cavity according to the shape. Be careful about the loops in the cavity, those loops should be properly closed.
Similarly we have to create a cavity for the mouth, for this we have to extrude the edges of the lips to inner side and give them a shape according to human anatomy and have to close this cavity as well with proper loops.
Till now i have finished the basic shape of human face which includes ears, eyes, nose and lips. In next part i will work on on our head and bring it down to the neck area.
