Harvard Business Review ‘Drawing a Leader’s Vision’ Vol. 21:Mitsuru Murai, Japan Professional Football League

For this year’s final issue of the Harvard Business Review ‘Drawing a Leader’s Vision’ interview series we were joined by the chairman of the Japan Professional Football League (J-League), Mitsuru Murai.  Murai and his team took part in an EGAKU session last month, and shared their core values and passion for their work through their artworks.

Harvard Business Review ‘Drawing a Leader’s Vision’ Vol. 20: Soichiro Minami, BizReach

This month’s issue of the Harvard Business Review (Japan edition) ‘Drawing a Leader’s Vision’ features Soichiro Minami, founder and CEO of Japanese talent search startup, BizReach.  Unlike most leaders who take part in the project, Minami is no stranger to painting his thoughts in pastels - this was actually his fourth EGAKU session.

92art Studio Dialogues vol.14:  On AI, Art and Happiness

We held our 14th 92art Studio Dialogues - "On AI, Art and Happiness" on October 28.  

For this special edition of the talk series, Ritsu Saito of Sigmaxyz moderated a conversation between Kazuo Yano who leads cutting edge research on the potential uses of AI at Hitachi and artist Kunihiko YAZAWA.  The interweaving discussion of these two explorers - one a researcher seeking answers, and the other an artist who continues to explore questions that lack answers - brought up much food for thought.   Many members of the audience mentioned how the talk made them reflect on how the issues raised connect with their own lives.

A big thanks to those of you who made the time to join us. We're grateful to Yano-san for such a powerful talk, and the moderator Saito-san for making this happen.

Harvard Business Review ‘Drawing a Leader’s Vision’ Vol.19: Akira Matsumoto, Calbee

92art Studio Dialogues vol.13: Authentic Approaches to Life, Work and Creating the Future

For the 13th 92art Studio Dialogues we invited Miwa Koyasu of Will Lab to moderate a talk between Keiko Hamada former editor of Japanese magazine, AERA and Sayaka Watanabe, founder of re:terra lab to explore the ideas of authentic approaches to living, working. 

Listening to the speakers share their inspiring personal stories, one of the messages seemed to be that there's no answer or 'formula' for creating an authentic way of living and working. What matters more is the journey itself - listening to the heart and developing a certain degree of grit. 

Our heartfelt thanks to Koyasu-san for creating such a wonderful talk, Hamada-san for sharing her reflections of the challenges of doing what you're passionate about within the constraints of a large organization, Watanabe-san for sharing the things that drive her as an entrepreneur, and to everyone in the audience who joined us.

Kunihiko YAZAWA ‘variations Ⅲ’ Opening Reception - October 3

We are delighted to announce the opening of the Kunihiko YAZAWA ‘variations Ⅲ’ Exhibition on Monday, October 3.  There will be an opening reception from 6-9pm.    

The change and the constant. Things that change. Things that don't change.

Kunihiko YAZAWA's art practice has continued to evolve against this backdrop. For YAZAWA it has been a continuous work in progress - a journey to uncover the creative possibilities within himself. The works that have emerged are in some senses records of his journey. 

For this show we will be showing bodies of work from two different periods of his career. Come and experience the change and the constant in YAZAWA's continuing explorations.

We hope you will join us for new encounters with art over a glass of wine, in the engaging company of other art lovers.

Large-scale 70 person EGAKU session for QON Inc.

In April we ran a large-scale firmwide EGAKU workshop for the 70 employees of consumer community business pioneer, QON Inc.  

With the company entering its next growth phase and its recent corporate name change, the EGAKU workshop was an opportunity for each employee to engage with the new corporate vision and share their perspectives with their  colleagues.  It was an incredibly powerful session, brimming with a sense of a shared common purpose.  After the workshop employees shared the insights they gained through the experience, and ideas about the future through their internal SNS and the artworks were displayed in meeting rooms - highlighting the wide-ranging impact and possibilities of art.  

The employee’s artworks together formed a stunning display at QON DAY 2016 held on June 23, powerfully symbolizing the organization’s new vision.

Harvard Business Review ‘Drawing a Leader’s Vision’ Vol.15: Hiroshi Ohnishi, President & CEO of Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings

In the July issue of the Harvard Business Review (Japan edition) “Drawing a Leader’s Vision” in the we were joined by president & CEO of department store operator Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings, Hiroshi Ohnishi.  President Ohnishi and his senior management team came to 92art Studio to take up the EGAKU challenge, through the creative exercise they reflected on the core values that guide them as individuals in their work and their life.

92art Studio Dialogues:  A  Life of Freedom and Independence - an Art Perspective

For 92art Studio Dialogues vol.12, artist Kunihiko YAZAWA was joined by Eiichi Kumano, the author of a recently published book on the topic of parenting and Adlerian psychology (independent psychology) and president of Childcare&Support Inc. in a conversation exploring ideas of ‘freedom’ and ‘independence.’ Kumano shared the basic ideas behind Adlerian psychology, while YAZAWA discussed what ‘freedom’ and ‘independence’ mean to him as an artist, and how this is reflected in his art practice. In the second part of the talk the speakers took questions from the audience further deepening the discussion on the topic.

Kunihiko YAZAWA ‘variations II’ Opening Reception - July 4

We are delighted to announce the opening of the Kunihiko YAZAWA ‘variations II’ Exhibition on Monday, July 4.  There will be an opening reception from 6-9pm.    

We had an amazing turnout for our current 'variations I' Exhibition opening reception in April. It was wonderful having such a diverse crowd, a mix of international guests and guests from various fields mingling and coming together to enjoy an exhibition bringing together two bodies of work - YAZAWA's early works as well as his more recent work.

The 'variations II' Exhibition opening on July 4 will give you an insight into the mind of the artist and the joys of expression, we hope it will be an experience which by turns delights and provokes.

There will be drinks and light refreshments on the day and we hope you will join us for new encounters with art in the engaging company of other art lovers.

EGAKU for the University of Tokyo Global Health Entrepreneurship Program

On Saturday we ran EGAKU for the first day of the Global Health Entrepreneurship Program 2016 organized by the Global Health Policy Department at the University of Tokyo.  

Participants were graduate and undergraduate students from countries around the world, including Myanmar, Uzbekistan and India.  The theme was “What I value most.”   The artworks that emerged from the session were powerful and unique.  As participants of a health entrepreneurship program, perhaps it comes as no surprise that their sense of determination and openness to taking up new challenges came through, making for an incredibly dynamic session.
