it kinda nice, actually, she finds. she likes the freedom of it, likes the way she can expose more of herself without it feeling necessarily sexual or explicit (im thinking her with a long v neck undershirt or something, black slacks that hug her just right, hair tied up in a single bun, makeup minimal; the most masc she’s ever looked. she doesn’t mind it, actually, especially not with how rumi and mira salivate over it.) likes how rumi and mira clearly love how she looks in those outfits.
occasionally, though, she looks over at the feminine clothing on racks in stores they go to, and she feels a yearning in her gut. it feels like sacrilege, almost, to wanna wear stuff like that (she can hear her father calling her all sorts of slurs in the back of her head), but the desire is still there. she denies herself, though, dedicated to being what she Oughta Be now.
later, though, when she’s trying on new clothes in the changing room, mira passes the exact dress zoey was staring at longingly (she didn’t even know mira saw her looking at it) through the door wordlessly.
and when they’re home, later that night, zoey walks into her room to see a box with the exact heels she’d been eying while her and rumi were browsing a shoe store earlier that day.
the night of their next event, zoey puts the dress and shoes on, and feels prettier than she’s ever felt before. it feels good.
(when rumi and mira salivate over her when she walks out like that, the feeling upgrades to great.)
