Something I kinda analyzed about Bucky and TWS while I was dming a new friend of mine!!
I feel like TWS and Bucky are two different people entirely like not even in just the brainwashed sense like "oh yea HYDRA ruined his ass and now he has an alter ego" No. I feel like genuinely if TWS were to be triggered again he would feel like he's in the wrong body, sort of like in a dissociative sense, similar to that of DID or OSDD, but he wouldn’t exactly have it, it's more of a state of mind.
Following up on this — obviously TWS doesn't have much sentience as Bucky. He's on a constant FoF mode. He's waiting for a command, for a fight, or a spring ready to uncoil so he can comply. He is hyper aware, but he doesn't have the thought process, memories, or sentience that Bucky does.
I feel like if TWS were triggered today he'd have a sort of depersonalization, like he wouldn't be completely aware of the modernity. Bucky focuses more on the prefrontal cortex while TWS is more focused on the amygdala, which as you may (or may not) know, is the fear and survival center.
Obviously TWS is more serious. He doesn’t lack the thought process to understand why exactly he is fighting. However we can see that he is more aware of threats, exits, hiding spots, his compliance, weapons, and missions. The pathways that Bucky has to memories are blocked off from HYDRA's control. He has no choice against himself. There is trauma induced catatonia to be seen there.
Trauma-induced catatonia is a disorder that is known to be characterized by loss of motor functions and communication, which are triggered by severe psychological or physical trauma. He could most likely have PTSD or C-PTSD of some sort. The effects from HYDRA put his mind into a sort of compartmentalization.
