alysa liu x russian figure skater reader
totally suggest listening to my moon my man wile reading
here it was, the 2026 winter olympic games in milan. these were your games to sweep, just like you did at worlds and nationals. your short program was the highest scored at 79.32, there was no doubt in your mind you werenât going to win gold. the pressure on you was huge, you were representing a whole country on your own. your coach, eteri tutberidze, was banned from being on your side. your choreographer, michael, stepped up and played both roles.
you were under a lot of stress going into the free skate. you knew the way you were training was slowly ruining you mentally and physically, but you didnât work your whole life to not be the greatest. anything other than gold would be unacceptable. you sat with you legs crossed on a random bench outside the olympic village. your hoodie covered most of your face as you took hits of a cigarette. it wasnât your proudest habit but it was your way of releasing stress.
the village was quiet for the most part, a couple athletes walking past you from time to time. this was clam before the storm for you. you, yourself, and your cigarettes. no one to bother you, correct you on something, or remind you of what was on the line.
âboo!â someone lightly pushed you from behind. you got up throwing you cigarette on the floor.
âjesus liu donât do thatâ you said shaking your head, reaching into you pocket for another cigarette.
âthatâs like really bad for you i hope you knowâ
âiâm aware but we have our unhealthy habitsâ you offered her the cigarette and she shook her head. you sat back down on the bench.
alysa and yours friendship was somewhat complicated. you grew up together, best friends, then she retired and you moved to russia. you felt you werenât getting the training you needed back in the states, so when eteri offered to coach you it was a no brainer. alysa tried to get you to stay with her in the states, but you knew it would set you back. you didnât talk for two years, then she came back and things oddly went back to normal. whenever you two were in the same city you would see each, and it always felt like there was no time lost.
âare you nervous for tomorrow?â she asked drawing little things with her foot in the dirt.
âfuck you have no ideaâ you leaned you head back in the bench.
âyouâre going to winâ
âyou just jinxed it thanksâ you put the cigarette to your mouth.
âi mean, i could help you clam your nervesâ
you looked at her suspiciously because you knew where this was going.
âi donât think so, nice tryâ you kept looking up at the sky as her hand met yours. she slowly leaned into you and left kisses on your neck. you let out a sign before gently pushing her off.
âwhat if someone sees us?â
âyou donât have a roomate right? we could just go to you roomâ she suggested messing with the zipper of your jacket.
you couldnât say no to her, she was the one person who you let your guard down for. anything she said or wanted you did it without hesitation. you had her follow a couple seconds behind you as you made your way back to your room. this was an idiotic mistake, you knew that.
the next morning you woke up alone, snoozing your alarm twice before eteri called. she was on her way to your room. you hurried to take a shower and get ready for the competition.
you walked into the elvator bag over your shoulder as eteri went over notes. you were half tuned into what she was saying, as the elevator stopped and alysa walked in with her coaches. you smiled at each other before eteri continued rambling. you shook your head fully listening now. you heard alysa and her coaches whispering. as soon as the elevator opened eteri grabbed your arm dragging you out.
âthat girl is no better than you. donât smile at her sheâs competition not your friendâ she whispered hardly into your ear.
micheal was already waiting for you two outside the venue. he was looking at his watch and looked relieved to see you two.
âwhat took you so long?â
âwell this one didnât wake up to her alarm twiceâ eteri answered dragging you inside the venue.
the vibes were tense, you laced up your skates and eteri checked them before you walked onto the ice. you started doing you basic warmups, slowly more skaters showed up. alysa was one of the last to show up, she smiled at you. you smiled back before eteri snapped at you to stop. warmups went well, you landed all your jumps and your spins were clean. everytime you thought you were done, you were ordered back to practice another move. exhaustion started to hit and you slowly started to loose your momentum. you underrotated some jumps and cut spins off short.
âwhat the hell was that?â eteri snapped.
âiâm sorry i just feel like im going to faintâ you said reaching for some water. you took the smallest sip and gurgled the water. eteri was a tough coach, but she got you results.
âletâs not over exhaust herâ michael stepped it. he wasnât as hard as eteri, he was reasonable and looked out for you.
eteri didnât say anything just walked away and micheal singled you to follow. alysa was standing talking her coaches as you went by. you offered them a smile and they returned it no hesitation. sometimes you felt envious of alysa. she was in charge of everything she was doing and her coaches actually cared for her. not that yours didnât, they were just tough on you.
leading up to your free skate you were oddly clam. you were the last one to perform, so being able to see everyone else perform only grew your confidence. you were going to win there was no doubt in your mind.
âgood luckâ alysa whispered pulling you out of your thoughts. her hand hovering over your waist, before she skated onto the ice.
you counted to stretch and go over your routine watching her on the tv. you had seen this routine a handful of times but today it left you star struck. she skated with so much ease and confidence. for the first time you felt that maybe that gold wasnât yours. you shook yourself out of your thoughts and did a final run through of your routine, as she got her score.
226.79 was the number to beat. easy enough for you considering your routine scored higher than that at both worlds and nationals. kaori sakamoto was the last person that came between you and the ice. her score 224.90.
eteri gave you a final pep talk, taking you jacket and skate guards.
âlisten to me, this is your moment. iâm hard on you because i see you potential. you are going to win that gold, i love youâ she smile wrapping you in a hug. you wrapped you arms around her waist as she kissed the top of your head. micheal was waiting for you at the opening of the rink, as you walked out into the arena. the crowd erupted as you walked out, there was dobut you werenât the favorite to win. and that alone fueled you even more. alysa sat on the chair to the left of the kiss and cry, she watched as you did your laps around the rink. she clapped as you landed your practice quads and encouraged the crowd to cheer louder for you. you couldnât help but smile as you made your way back to micheal for a final pep talk.
âlisten to me, no one deserves this more than you. this is your moment and iâm so so proud of youâ he took your hands and he helped regulate your breathing. you never realized how uneven your breathing would get so when micheal noticed it he started the tradition. one you you felt yourself take a full deep breath, you did your handshake and you took center ice. your music started and you went into autopilot, you had perfected this routine. you landed every one of your four quads your spins were controlled and your music ended you knew you won. you ran to micheal jumping into his arms and he span you.
âare you kidding me? that was insaneâ he screamed helping you put on you guards. you laughed with him before running to eteri, you hugged her quickly before going to get your results. you sat down grinning from ear to ear as you waited for your score.
âthe scores pleaseâ you grabbed michealâs hand as the crowd fell silent, âwith a score of 146.56 in the free skate, overall score of 225.88â
your heart dropped and before you heard the words âsecond placeâ over the speakers. you started uncontrollably laughing and you heard gasps from the crowded. you couldnât handle your emotions as your head fell into your hands and you started crying. micheal quickly wrapped you in a hug as he tried to calm you down.
âtheyâre just kidding right? like that isnât my scoreâ you were yelling now pointing to the board. you were angry and didnât even think as you stormed off into the locker room. michael ran closely behind you and ereti caught up to you.
âclam down? i just lost the gold! you promised me if i pushed myself i would win! i shouldâve won!â you were yelling like a maniac, âim not going back out there!â
you started undoing your skates.
up until this point eteri let you get your emotions out. she didnât intervene, she understood your frustration. there was no logical way you shouldâve come in second. the moment she saw you taking off your skates she finally decided to stop you.
âenough!â she startled you as she got on a knee and began lacing up your skates, âlisten to me, i know this is frustrating but you won a metal that alone you should be proud ofâ
you scoffed as you crossed your arms. you bit your tongue as to not explode on her again.
âitâs a shame what happened tonight but go out there, smile and receive you metalâ
the anger you felt turned into sadness again and you started to cry. she wasted no time wrapping you in her arms and petting your hair. she let you cry because she knew you were in pain. she worked you tirelessly to make you a champion and now that you werenât, she felt the guilt start to creep in. once you were clam, she wiped the mascara from under your eyes and helped fix your makeup. you step out the locker room to be met with cameras pointed at you. you smiled before walking over to the backstage manger who instructed you to take your place in the hallway along with the other medalist. kaori tapped you on the shoulder first, opening her arms. you hugged tight and congratulated her. she was directed to take the ice for the medal ceremony. you could feel alysaâs gaze on you and you clenched your fists. you were mad at her, she knew how much you deserved this win.
âdonâtâ you said coldly before you were directed on the ice. you smiled and waved as you came out, the crowd exploding for you. you took your place behind the second place step of the podium. alysa was called out and you looked anywhere but her, you clapped lazily. this wasnât her fault, you knew that, but it was so easy to blame her.
the next hours went by in a blur for you. you received your medal with the your best poker face, but as the chairman placed the medal around your neck you felt yourself hold back tears. you kept glancing at yourself on the jumbotron to make sure you looked somewhat okay, but the tears were visible. you wiped them away quickly with the back of you hand. as alysa received her medal you didnât even try to hide it, you kept a straight face as you lazily clapped for her. pictures were taken with the three of you, alysa gripped your waist and you just hovered your hand above her back. the anthems began and since you were competing as a neutral athlete, you didnât have a flag or anthem to sing. the two girls were instructed to pose with their flags and you escaped to find a stage manger.
âis it cool if i just head out?â
âi donât have a flag or anthemâ
âi guess so yeah, well let know the press youâre going first instead of kaoriâ she was quick to talk over her headset.
you skated off with your head down, micheal was waiting for you. you handed him the medal off you neck.
âi just want to get the fuck out of hereâ you said putting on your guards and jacket.
âi tried to get you out the press conference butâ
âi know itâs part of being an athleteâ you smiled as you two walked to the conference room. flashes following you as you walked up to the table. you adjusted the in ear translator and took a deep breath before answering questions. you felt like a robot just nodding and answering the same questions over and over. how do you after your performance? are you happy with the results? do you plan on coming back in 2030 for the gold?
âare you happy for alysa? we know you were close as kids, do you still see her as a friend?â
you were taken a back, because no really asked such straightforward questions about other skaters. you thought about it before continuing, âyeah iâm happy for her, she deserves success. i obviously respect her a lot as a competitor.â
the press conference didnât continue much longer after that, you thanked everyone as you left. you waited to the side with micheal and eteri for the group conference to start. kaori showed up first for her press conference, then alysa. she stood across for you with her coahes, they were whispering looking over to you. you coaches mustâve taken notice of this and they stepped in front of you to be blocked from their eyesight.
âprobably talking about how they paid the judgesâ micheal shook his head.
âare you ready for the gala?â eteri asked to distract you.
âdo i have to do it?â you knew the answer, but you had no motivation to skate. you were running through what to caption your retirement post in you head.
âyes and youâll do great. the routine is so good, maybe if you wouldâve today you-â
ânot now michealâ you put your hand up, âi need to pee.â they both nodded and moved to let you go to the bathroom. you locked yourself into the closet stall. you didnât actually need to pee, you just needed to get away from everyone. you sat down on the seat, putting your knees to your chest, this was the worst feeling. you had just failed not only yourself but a whole country. what would happen when you got back home? your thoughts were interrupted with the door opening and someone crawling under into your stall.
âno what the hell is wrong with you?â alysa asked leaning back on the door.
âwhatâs wrong with me? you knew how much i needed that medal and you took it from meâ
âi didnât take it for you, i wonâ she crossed her arms.
âyou cheated! i beat you at everything and suddenly you win the olympics? it doesnât make any senseâ
âso what are you saying i paid off the judges or something?â
âi would be surprised if you didâ you got up to leave the stall but alysa blocked the lock. âgod can you let me out?â
âno weâre going to talkâ
âyouâre insufferable, let me outâ
âno because i canât stand you being mad at me! this is a huge accomplishment for me and you canât even pretend to be happy for me! youâre being selfish!â she yelled at you.
you were taken back, because alysa never yelled at you. you let out a breath because she was right. your pride, however, would never let you admit to being wrong though. you leaned into her, close enough your lips were almost touching. you held her face and she soften immediately to your touch. you smiled as you turned her around reaching for the door lock and leaving the bathroom.
âidiotâ you laughed under your breath. you met with your coaches and went over what needed to be done for the gala. alysa came out the bathroom a few minutes after. she was walking with usual clam demeanor, you looked at her up and down. you winked at her and she scoffed. your coaches looked at you confused, they always had an idea something was happening with you two. they just never dared to ask about it, it wasnât their business.
the joined press conference was next, you on the left next to alysa. she was mad at you, and rightfully so, but she wasnât as mad as you were. she stole your medal. the press conference went fairly normal.
âhave you all seen heated rivalry?â
you laughed because of course you had, who hadnât.
âa lot of people would compare the two of youâ she pointed between and alysa, âtwo the main characters is there any true to that?â
you two were stunned, it was a joke, but there was lots of truth to it.
âuh i think the competitive aspect i guess soâ you looked over to alysa who nodded in agreement.
âmy question is y/nâ the next interview stood up and you nodded waiting for thier question. âyou had a very emotional response to getting second, do you feel you overrated?â
you werenât sure if this question was supposed to be passive aggressive or not but it sure felt that way. you thought a second before answering.
âi think my reaction was valid. i had been wining every competition leading up to this one. it got to my head and when i didnât the results i wanted, it hurtâ you nodded before they went onto the final questions.
once the conference was over you excited to finally be alone. you said your goodbyes to your coaches and once you were in your were you finally felt peace. you showered and got ready for bed. there was a knock at your door and you knew exactly who was here. you chose to ignore it, keep her on her toes a bit.
âi know youâre in there, open the damn doorâ she started trying to mess with the lock.
you rolled your eyes walking over and letting her in.
âlook i donât like whatever this tension is, i wanna squash itâ, she was pacing before continuing, âi understand your mad and i would be to. i didnât mean to take you medal, i justâ
she kept talking and she sounded pathetic. you loved to see her this way, she played it cool with everyone else, but the moment she was with you she made a fool of herself. you smiled before walking over to her, kissing to shut her up. she melted right into it, your hands cupping her face and her pulling your waist. the kiss escalated quickly, you threw her down on the bed getting on top her of her and started working your way down. you kissed under her jaw and her neck before taking of her sweatshirt. she stopped you, sitting up in the bed.
âno weâre not doing this until we talkâ
you rolled your eyes sitting on the edge of the bed.
âlook iâm sorry about everything today, but thereâs so much more to this. i like you, a lot and i donât want to be just a competition hook up to youâ
âoh my god alysaâ you burried your head in your hands, âiâve told you since the beginning this wonât work. iâll be crucified back home if anyone found out about thisâ
âyou donât have to go back though, you can come back to cali and-â
âno are you dumb? why would risk my career for you?â
she was taken back at that. she didnât say anything just looked at you stunned. you took a deep breath before continuing.
âlook i love you and whatever we have going on, but i have built something for myself. i canât let it be ruinedâ
âand i would do that? i would ruin your career?â
she didnât say anything she got up and slammed the door. you sighed laying back on the bed. you were mad at yourself because you really did love her. you wanted nothing more than to be her girlfriend and love her the way she deserved. in this point of you life however skating was priority and no could come between that.
the next morning, you didnât wake up to any of your alarms. your phone kept ringing and ringing, and each time you silenced it without even opening your eyes. then there was a knock at your door.
you groaned, dragging yourself up and opening the door.
âgood morning, sleepyhead!â micheal beamed the second you opened the door.
âhello, michealâ you said monotone.
âdonât sound so excited, sweetheart,â he teased, tilting his head at you. âiâm thinking this, we go explore the city before practice?â
you nodded, a small spark of energy finally breaking through as you rushed to get ready. micheal made your bed and cleaned up your room, while he waited.
the city was beautiful in a way that almost made you forget everything else. you wandered through little shops, trying different foods, and taking pictures of everything. your mind wandered to last night and how regretful you were on how you treated alysa.
âmicheal, can i ask you something?â
he nodded, still eating his gelato as the two of you walked back toward the arena.
âhow did you know you liked men?â
he stopped walking, nearly choking on his gelato. you couldnât help but laugh.
âwhy do you think i like men?â he asked, raising an eyebrow.
âyouâre a figure skating coach.â
you both laughed. he took a second before answering, his expression softening.
âi guess⊠when i fell in love for the first time,â he said. âmy best friend, back in school. one night we got wasted andâŠ
one thing led to another.â
âoh, spare me,â he shot back, rolling his eyes. âlike youâre some kind of virgin mary over here.â
you shook your head, smiling faintly, letting him continue.
âhe told me he had feelings for me,â micheal said, quieter now. âand i realized⊠yeah. iâve never felt that way about anyone before. we tried to take things slow, but it scared me. you know how it is back home. so⊠i let him go.â
you frowned slightly. âwhat do you mean, let him go?â
he exhaled, looking down at the melting gelato in his hand. âi knew i wasnât ready to be that person. not openly. not completely. and he deserved someone who wasnât afraid to love him like that.â
his words lingered longer than the conversation itself.
you nodded, but your mind had already drifted back to last night.o you knew you messed up, and worse, you knew a part of you still wasnât ready to give her everything she deserved. but the thought of losing her was unbearable. if you didnât say something now, it might already be over for good.
âcan i tell you something?â you asked quietly.
âi really messed up, micheal. i really like someone, but iâm too afraid of what people will think.â
he didnât hesitate. âthen you need to let her go.â
âi canât,â you said quickly, your voice breaking just a little. âi donât want to lose her.â
he looked at you, softer this time. âthen be honest. tell her exactly what youâre able to give right now. and let her decide if thatâs enough.â
his words settled somewhere deep inside you.
by the time you walked into gala practice, you werenât thinking about your program or your jumps or anything on the ice. you were thinking about her. running over every word you needed to say, again and again, hoping this time you wouldnât get it wrong.
she was one of the last to arrive, smile on her face. you didnât even think about what it would look like, you skated over grabbing her wrist.
âwe need to talkâ was all you said under your breath. you pulled her into the hallway.
âlook i know ive been a bitch to you, you deserved the gold. iâm so proud of you for that. you deserve anything and everything good coming your wayâ
she looked at you puzzled crossing her arms inviting to you to continue.
âi love you so so much. i want to be able to show you how i feel but itâs hard. i canât promise ill be the most affectionate in public or even at all butâ
âyeah no im not doing this. youâre so selfish you know that?â
âyesterday was the best day of my life and you couldnât even pretend to be happy for me. i came to you trying to fix this and you shut it down, so i donât care what you have to say im doneâ she walked off.
you stood there stunned. your nightmare was slowly coming true, you and alysa might be done.
the rest of practice went terrible, you werenât picking up any choreo. you couldnât land a single jump or complete a spin, you were falling apart. micheal noticed immediately telling you to leave it off the ice but you couldnât. alysa seemed unfazed which only made you angrier. not at her though at full at yourself. she was right, you were selfish. how hard was it to suppress your disappointment and just be happy for her? not hard at all. you needed to fix this.
coming back to the village you had one mission, get her to forgive you. you texted and called her, no response. which you expected, so you did the next next best thing. you went to talk to her in person. you underestimated how hard it would be to find her room. you tried every floor, knocked at every door. everyone looked at you like you were some kind of maniac. you felt defeated sitting in one of the lounges. the elevator stopped on the floor and out came amber glenn. you werenât close at all, just knew each other through competitions.
she looked at you confused, âhi what are you doing here?â
âiâm looking for alysaâ
âwhat? come on please help me. iâve been knocking on doors the past hour like an idiot help me outâ
she thought about it before telling you alysaâs room was upstairs, last door to the left. she texted alysaâs roomate to meet for dinner, so you could talk to her alone. you thanked her rushing up the stairs. you got to the room just as her roommate was walking out, you shushed her as you walked in. you closed the door quietly, alysa was in her bed phone in hand and you could hear your program music.
âcanât get enough of me?â you said scaring her.
âwhat the fuck? how did you get in here?â
âdonât worry about that, i just really need to talk to you.â
âyeah well i told you i was done. i donât want to hear whatever bullshit is going to come out your mouth.â she turned her body so that she was facing the wall and not you.
âokay look im really sorry, truly i am. im a selfish piece of shit but seriously alysa look at me.â
she didnât turn around, you walked to the side of her bed and kneeled in front of it.
âi really want to make things work with you, i donât just want to see when thereâs a competition. i want to be at all your practices, i want-â
âcan you just stop? seriously itâs been years this whole on and off thing with you. how do i know youâre not just going to flake again?â she turned to look at you.
âi guess you have to trust meâ
âyouâre such an asshole genuinely, you think youâre being funny but youâre not. you told me i ruined your career! do you really believe that?â
âthen whyâd you say it?â
âno i donât know. i didnât want to hurt you, i was just upset aboutâ
âabout loosing? yeah youâre such a sore loser dudeâ
âouch okay. i know damn well roles reserved youâd be the sameâ
âno i would be happy for you!â
âreally? you left for two years and when i finally started to hit the top you just had the urge to come backâ you stood up backing away from her bed.
âwhatâs that supposed to mean?â she stood up getting in your face.
âyou hated to see me winning and you just had to take alysa.â
she scoffed in you face, âyou really believe that?â
you starred at each other, there was truth in it. alysa would never fully admit it to you but with the rest of the russian team gone. she knew there was more of a likelihood for her to be at the top. she alyways knew that you would be a hard one to beat, but she didnât mind. she liked the tension it created between the two of you. she loved when you would get petty with her.
you saw right through her. as much as alysa pretended she wasnât, she was all about results. she wanted to win, she wanted to be the best.
âyouâre really cute when you try to be all tough you know that?â you titled your head.
she rolled her eyes, âyouâre really annoying.â she sat down on the bed.
you didnât waste a second taking a seat next to her. you grabbed her hand encouraging her to look at you.
âiâm really sorry, i donât like you being mad at me. i shouldâve been happy for youâ you leaned into her carefully. she didnât pull back, you placed a light kiss to her lips.
she quickly pulled you back in, her hand already making a mess in your hair. the kiss was desperate. she pulled you down on the bed, you started kissing around her collarbone.
âdoes this mean you forgive me?â you looked up at her starting to mess with the waist band on her sweats.
âyouâre so annoyingâ
you titled your head and stopped messing with her sweats.
âguess we shouldnât do this thenâ you pretend to get up.
she pulled you back by the shoulders. you laughed beginning to undo the tie of her sweats.
there was so much that needed to be worked on between the two of you for this to last. you knew you were ready to take this seriously, trusted she did too.
only time would tell how things would play out.
