I came across this post, and I wanted to add to it. That YES this is 10000% real and very much an issue. I agree with everything said

And as for my writing, I do my very best to genuinely make it as non-specific as possible so anyone can read as reader. If anyone is reading my stories and there’s something I specified, please inform me on how to do better. I am white, blonde, blue eyed—so there may be things I don’t realize but I try to make it neutral. Such as not saying blush, or knuckles turned white!

I try to write reader as a generic person if that makes sense and not mention anything such as hair color, eye color, body type, skin type…. Etc… only thing I MAY mention is possibly clothing if it’s specific to the scene or personality, which changes per fic as I determine for the chemistry of the fic. I even don’t specify names of other characters at times to make for more inclusion due to difference in like names per region.

I am not one to speak out necessarily, but I wanted to repost and do what I can. And ask that if there’s something I’m not doing well, please inform me. Let’s make the spaces more inclusive and welcoming for ALL readers.

X reader is supposed to be inclusive. So when specifics are put in writers are excluding those who dont fit that detail. Not everyone has long hair nor is everyone thin. So it is frustrating to read a x reader tagged fic and finding these characteristics when they dont fit whoevers reading. Thats why its important to properly tag the fic.

When I go on a certain hashtag like Natasha Romanoff x reader why the hell am I seeing a Bucky fic? And it’s not even like Bucky x Natasha x reader. It’s flat out just Bucky. I get people want their shit to be seen but that’s literally tagbaiting. I’m going on a certain hashtag to see that certain shit. I don’t want to go on a Joel miller hashtag and only see Tommy. That makes zero sense. If you want your posts to be seen, I promise you reblog works. But putting other hashtags that have NOTHING TO DO with your fic or post is getting ridiculous. I think the magic of Character x Reader, by not adding certain characteristics (eye, hair, or skin color), opens up possibilities for us as readers to imagine what the character feels or perhaps think what the character thinks of us. That's what it's all about.

And adding those characteristics takes away the essence of Character x Reader and turns it into Character x OC, adding a feeling of discomfort, out of place, and perhaps a strangeness, a sense that something isn't right, and perhaps even thinking, without even realizing it, that it's an OC and not a reader.
