Recom Lopez Headcanons!

(None of these are fact or canon, they are just small details about the character i made up!)

•Lopez is actually one of the characters in which I’m not to sure where they’d come from in my mind, i believe that he’d either be Mexican or Calé Romani as the word Lopez is a Spanish surname meaning “Son of Wolf”.

•He/They

•One of the younger members of the group, around 24-27 when he died in the Battle of the Hallelujah mountains. Being eaten alive by animals.

•Had a small group of friends from when he was human who survived the Battle, a few of them started avoiding him after he came back due to their shared trauma of seeing him be torn apart.

•Covered in tattoos and piercings (when I say everywhere, I mean EVERYWHERE. Do with that information as you will)

•Convinced Fike and Lyle to get their first tattoos.

•Known to loose his temper very quickly, loves getting a rise out of people but can’t stand people insulting or giving him any form of back-chat. Was almost demoted for beating the shit out of someone who pissed him off.

•Is very similar to Lyle in terms of how he acts on missions. Follow orders, and get the mission done. Probably even more so, he wouldn’t hold back in killing or harming people if he was ordered to.

•Has had all types of partners of all genders. Although most of his relationships don’t seem to last long, he’s very open about himself because (most of the time) he couldn’t give less of a shit of what people where to think about him.

•One of the worst things you can do to him is bruise is ego. Is mostly fine with members of the squad making the occasional comment or jab here and there. But he’d go absolutely nuts at insults from anyone else, and then think about it for the next week or two.

•Is either incredible or foul at cooking. There’s no inbetween. It depends on how much he likes the dish, or how bothered he is.

•Is no contact with both of his parents, but he is close with his siblings and writes to them constantly.

•Closest with Zdinarsk and Brown, since him and Walker are so similar, they either cannot stand each other, or are best friends.

•Picks up languages quickly, knows Spanish, English, Polish and German.

I feel like I haven’t posted anything in a decade so I’d like to provide anyone who is unlucky enough to stumble upon this post with another question:

Do the recoms have their own specialised clothing and accessories? How big would stuff like toothbrushes and shoes be to regular humans?

I do like the thought of the recoms stuff from their lives as humans being kept in some kind of storage only for them to realise that “Shit, none of this fits us.”

Like, for Walker and Prager, did they randomly just stumble upon a washcloth or something and go, “Wow, this would make a bloody magnificent bandanna.”

Hot take that isn’t actually a hot take

The recoms should’ve been actual threats/reoccurring villains, making them basically nameless if you don’t go searching the Wiki was such a wasted opportunity.

I get killing a few of them off during Neytiri’s rampage, but HOW are there only 2 left?!

Keeping a few of them alive would’ve raised the stakes in AFAA SO much, because now not only do Jake and Neytiri have to deal with the RDA, Quaritch and the Mangkwan, they also have to deal with a group of heavily trained military recoms who want them both dead for their fallen comrades.

Praying that they don’t kill Lyle off in the 4th🙏

Recom Wainfleet Headcanons!

(None of these are canon, they are just small bits and pieces I make up of the character for fun!)

•French Canadian, he moved to Miami with his parents when he was 3 years old.

•He thinks pronouns are “Woke Liberal stuff”, but he’d respect them and get them right.

•Some part of him genuinely does miss Trudy and Grace, he definitely cared for them both when he worked with them. He cant understand why they chose to “betray” humanity. Keeps a small photo with him and them both under his bed.

•He got a strong feeling of Deja-vu whilst interacting with Kiri, but he can’t seem to put his finger on why.

•He loves his squad. In a way that almost hurts. He couldn’t even think about any of them after The Way of Water because he knew he’d drown in grief and guilt.

•Screamed his heart out and had to hold someone’s hand when he got his first tattoo.

•The only languages he knows are English and Spanish, as those are the most commonly spoken languages in the RDA along with Russian. He speaks fractions of sentences in French as he was surrounded by French speakers until the age of 3 and his parents never bothered to help him with either languages so he replaces English words he doesn’t know with random French.

•Has an insane amount of allergies, it’s so bad that he went into anaphylaxis after smelling some shellfish.

•Loves ABBA, doesn’t exactly have a music taste, he just listens to whatever sounds good to him.

Recom Quaritch Headcanons!

(None of these are canon, just bits and pieces of the character I made up about them!)

•Born in Texas, his mother was of German and Irish descent and his father was Jewish (based on the actor)

•He/him

•Constantly checks on members of the squad. Either with a small “you ok?” Or a small glance over his back to make sure they’ve not like, blown themselves up or something.

•He has a general distaste towards General Ardmore, it definitely began in the scene where Spider was being tortured to get information on the Sullies.

•One of his biggest fears is loosing human Quaritch. Ofcourse human Quaritch has already been lost, his body was left uncared for and decomposed in the rainforest, but he is a slave to the image of human Quaritch he has in his head, he can’t even possibly think to separate himself from human Quaritch in any way.

•His mental health is unstable. He has days and sometimes even weeks of extreme productivity, bursts of confidence and unstoppable motivation to days where is energy has been completely sent down the drain. The recoms definitely do notice this more than most, and keep quiet tabs on it.

•Because of this, finding Jake captivates him. He’s completely and utterly obsessed with him. But moments like in the beginning of Fire and Ash when him and Lyle find Jake in the woods, he has the chance to complete the mission. But he doesn’t. Because some quiet part of him is genuinely afraid that he’d loose the kick of energy and emotion he feels while hunting him.

•Exploring the rainforest and learning to ride an Ikran with Spider and his squad was a time where he was genuinely happy. The time he spends in the forest definitely does impact some of his later actions in Fire and Ash.

•Secretly understands Ja’s niche musical references but tells no one.

•Allergic to peanuts (idk why I think this i just do)

•His musical taste is all over the place, he does like his fair share of country music, he does also like David Bowie and The mamas and the Papas.

•Crushes his empty beer cans to feel better about himself.

•The second oldest of the squad next to Warren, around 53-54 when he died.

•Simply couldn’t care less about gender, if he’s interested in you, he’s interested in you.

•Got his ears pierced at 14 and deeply regretted it.

•LOVES liquorice and sherbet lemons.

Recom Ja Headcanons!

•Born in Volos, Greece. His dad being American with Spanish descent, and his mum being Greek. Was raised by his grandparents in California.

•Got a paediatric degree, one of the most qualified out of the squad.

•He/him

•Had the healthiest, shiniest blonde curls as a human. Was absolutely mortified to wake up after 15 years bald and uses the cap to desperately cover it.

•Feels a sort of sense of responsibility for the group after the battle of the Hallelujah mountains. He died fairly early into the battle, was impaled into his seat on one of the gunships by a Na’vi arrow and was alive until the ship went down.

•Cares deeply for everyone in the squad. Closest with Prager as they are both the quietest, he believes Prager can understand him better than most.

•A musical lover, will constantly make references about the most niche musicals to ever exist and will then get annoyed when nobody knows what he’s talking about.

•Hates sleeves with a passion. Any fabric on his arms is a big no no.

•Banned from cooking for the group after he gave both Lyle, Quaritch, and Prager food poisoning.

•The group calls him “Ja” because his last name is Alexander and he can’t stand his first name. Walker, Lyle and Lopez call him his first name on purpose to piss him off.

The recoms remind me sm of Harlan Ellisons “I have no mouth and I must scream”. I feel like the loss of autonomy and the slow realisation that your body doesn’t belong to you. Coupled with the fact that you are a slave to a dead persons memories could’ve easily sent them all spiralling. They (or their human selves) chose to enter the recom program, they most likely signed the paperwork to get them into the bodies they now currently have, but now, that they do have these bodies, do you think some of them regret doing it? Themselves and their human counterparts aren’t the same being, they have the same lives experiences, but it’s not them. Their bodies are owned by the company.

Or instead of thinking of the recoms as counterparts to Ted, Ellen, Gorrister, Benny, and Nimdok, they would be more similar to AM. “Whom we created because our time was badly spent and we must’ve known unconsciously that he could do it better.” I think that could sum up what many think of the recoms, bodies perfectly created to survive life on Pandora. But they now can see, but they don’t have the freedom to act upon it. What life do they have in the chance that humanity actually does colonise Pandora?

I think it’s really unfortunate that they barely have any scenes, we barely know them as characters, but they are so stupidly interesting.
