"Then he reads the list of past District 12 victors. In seventy-four years, we have had exactly two. Only one is still alive." ― Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games
Peter: WAIT, YOU LIKE ME!?
Peter: FOR MY PERSONALITY!?
Harley: yeah, I was surprised too
Peter: must be hard not being able to laugh
Harley: I can laugh you know
Peter: Well I've never heard you laugh
Harley: well I've never heard you say anything funny
Peter: you spend your whole life gathering guests for your funeral
Tony: Kid. What the fuck?
Harley: we were literally talking about going to IKEA to get meatballs. Where the fuck did that come from?
Peter: am I wrong?
Tony: ...no, no you are not
Can’t stop thinking bout how Knives Out really just murdered white feminism like that
Meg: studying feminism theory or whatever in college, acting like she’s the one true friend to Marta in the family for the first half of the movie, who knows Marta’s mum is an undocumented immigrant, who ‘defends’ Marta/immigrants from the alt-right cousin and the racist family.
The second she realises that her upper-class white privilege is at risk and that to protect the same immigrants she seemed to care so much about she might have to lose a little of her advantage, she crawls right back to the powers that be and throws Marta’s family right under the racist bus.
Like we all know if she kept her mouth shut and stood by her supposed principles, homegirl woulda covered her tuition fees and taken care of her, but Meg realised that being ‘taken care of,’ despite that being what the family keep saying they’ll do for Marta, isn’t stability and independence at all bc you’re living on the good will of someone else. It was fine when that was the family taking care of the ‘one good immigrant’ who truly deserved it, but when the tables were turned? She showed her true colours damn
“what’s your five year plan” bro i wake up every day confused by the fact that i’m even alive
the brain is literally so fucking cool
here's some fun facts bc i love reading about neuroscience
- the brain LITERALLY cannot tell the difference between what is real and imagined. this is why self deprecating jokes are so harmful and positive affirmations actually work
- contrary to popular belief, your brain doesn't actually stop growing at 21. this used to be believed but has since been proven false. you can change the LITERAL NEURAL NETWORKS OF YOUR BRAIN at any age. (tho it is true that the younger you are the higher the neuroplasticity of the brain)
- hypnosis isn't mind control. IT'S YOUR BRAIN USING HYPNOSIS AS AN EXUSE TO LET GOT OF IT'S SUBCONCIOUS BELIEFS. your brain basically uses the hypnotist as a means to ignore your beliefs. for example, if you have a fear of snakes. it's very hard for your brain to get over that fear by itself, but when being hypnotized the brain basically lies to itself and uses the hypnotist as an excuse to get over the fear.
- pure thought. PURE THOUGHT by itself, can change the fucking hardwiring of your brain. if you run every day, your brain learns to accommodate this habit and make it easier for you to run. now if you sit and JUST visualized yourself running for a couple minutes every day, your brain will do the exact same fucking thing. the brain is like "oh they seem to be running a lot. lets makes that easier for them" and will change the hardwiring of the neural networks to accommodate.
- everything you see and experience is just an interpretation of reality. technically you aren't actually seeing reality. when you think about it, we're just thought. so what the brain (aka the organizer) does, is take all the information that all the different senses provided, with all the brains previous knowledge, and creates what we experience. think of it like your personal sketch artist. (this is why illusions are weird)
i just had to see with my own two eyes “asking authors for a summary beyond ‘it’s gay enemies to lovers’ is telling them to succumb to spoiler culture and you should feel bad, that’s a perfect summary” and it’s like. ah. so you don’t know how to make an actual story with a plot then
The tiktok and instagram trend of listing tropes for a book was born out of fanfic tags. But the thing is, it’s perfectly okay to tag a familiar work with “friends-to-lovers” or “klutzy main girl” because the plot is already familiar. No matter what an MCU fic is tagged as, we’re already all familiar with the basic plot, the world, and the character dynamics. So you can just label it as “fake engagement”, and all of the stuff in the previous sentence is baked in.
But in a new book, one that nobody’s ever heard of, you need to establish the plot. You need to tell us about the world/city/village. You need a story hook. You need to actually say what the book is about and who your characters are.
“Coffeeshop romance” is not a character. You can tag an MCU fic “coffeeshop romance” because we already know that the character is Steve Rogers or Bucky or Tony, etc. We already know the characters and the world.
Who is the character in your book? What is their relationship with the other main character/s? You can’t just make a little doodle of a book, slap on fic tags, and expect it to be read by selling it on meaningless tropes.
Thank you.
This has become the new “author’s picture on the back of the book,” and I hate that and I hate this.
this is real
the holy quadrinity is complete
Do Revenge took the essence of 90s teen movies and translated it to 2022, which is making me a little insane.
I love the complexity of the characters, I love the secondary characters being interesting, I love Sarah Michelle Geller as the principal, I love the acting in general.
But most of all I love Camila Mendes as Drea Torres. Homegirl is not getting praised enough for the amount of emotional depth she put into that character.
Okay but Sophie Turner in Do revenge 😂😭🥵
me watching camila mendes stare straight into the camera and say “peaking in high school is cringe anyway” while brutal by olivia rodrigo blares in the background: now that’s cinema!
no one is doing it like katniss everdeen and peeta mellark. they have it ALL. fake dating. enemies to lovers. rivals to lovers. friends to lovers. star-crossed lovers. opposites attract. hurt-comfort. nightmare induced bed sharing. shared trauma. guy falls first. sunshine & grumpy. childhood crush.
everyone say thank you suzanne.
