Mary Oliver, āDonāt Hesitateā, Devotions
holding yourself accountable and tearing yourself down are two different things
how to do it (asking seriously)
be aware of what youāve done wrong. forgive yourself and learn from it rather than beating yourself up over it and thinking itās just a part of you that canāt be changed. know that you canāt go back and undo it but also that in the future you can do better and not repeat the same regret. self hatred stemming from regret is hard to control, but it can be managed with patience and practice.
DON'T focus on:
how guilty you feel
how much punishment you deserve
DO focus on:
how to prevent it from happening again
how to make amends
Once you have identified the proper remedies to the situation and have implemented them, you no longer need to think about the situation. You do not need to remind yourself of the thing months or years after countermeasures are done. Do not feel guilty, focus on responding to the issue.
