Oh god it's finally time to go through the 2012 Cameron backstory for full understanding of Caleb. (And also the rest of his fucked up lil family :3)

Okay here we go. We start off by introducing Cam's older cousins. Jesse is the oldest, Mason is his younger brother. Well they live with their mother Alice, until she dies in childbirth with their younger sister Amy. When Alice dies, Jesse is 10, and Mason is 8.
When she dies they move in with their aunt and uncle. Mary and Travis. Well, these two are the worst people in the world. And they already have two kids, 3 years old, Caleb and Cameron, twins :3! And then, three years later, they have a third son, Penn.
Now, Travis is a neglectful parent. He doesn't interact with any of the kids, he ignores them until they piss him off and then... he gets physical.
Mary, is verbally abusive! She's constantly degrading and belittling the kids and making them do chores and housework. All of them except her golden child, Caleb. Caleb is her pride and joy, her sweetie pie. Cameron? He's the excess that came along with him. She despises Cameron. :)
Caleb eventually starts to understand the privilege he has, and like any asshole kid. He uses it to his advantage. He's constantly getting Cam in trouble, demanding they spend every waking hour together no matter what. While Cam plays along with a smile, because despite everything he still loves Caleb, even if he is.. kinda mean.. and.. kinda awful..
But Cam confides in Mason! Who is essentially Mary's lapdog. He's her yes man, too spineless and scared to say no to her. The only way he disobeys is by helping his siblings/cousins. He's there for Cam when Cal is extra awful, or when his parents are rougher than usual. He's the only one who's ever there for Cam.
You may be wondering, what about Jesse? He's the oldest, why isn't he helping? Well that's because Jesse has been in a downward spiral since he was 10 years old. He tried to help. He tried to disobey and be there for his family. But then he found an escape, alcohol. And he took it and ran with it. And after years and years of downing bottle after bottle, he's too drunk to even spare a glance at his family, past the punches and threats thrown his way from Travis and Mary.
And Amy? She's a little ray of sunshine. Or, she would be.. if her family wasn't constantly ignoring and putting her down. She's stifled, and scared. Mary is terrifying, and so is Travis, and she's too scared to go out of line. So she just blends in and tries not to stand out.
Penn is probably the most forgotten of all of the kids. The youngest is usually the baby of the family, but not here. This here is a boy genius, a true evil mastermind. He's keeping quiet and drawing no attention to himself, using the forgotten child advantage to keep his plans a secret. Amy and Penn are close, they have to be. They're all they have. Penn is concocting a plan to get them both out of here, but it's taking some time.
But! Then! Cam finds out :0 he likes boys. Naturally, he freaks out. He panics, going to Caleb, (his other half, his twin brother who loves him surely) and he confesses. And Caleb panics. He rushes down the stairs, immediately snitching to his parents in a scared rush.
And suddenly things were happening. Words were being yelled, Cam was off the floor, held up by the shirt gathered in his father's fists. The next thing he knew he was on the floor with Mason stood in front of him, yelling for him to grab whatever he could and get the fuck outside. So he ran upstairs to his bedroom, the one he shared with Caleb, amd he stuffed everything together. There's no time for thoughts just actions. He could cry and panic later, he needed to get out of here.
Mason ran behind him on the way out, ushering him into Jesse's red truck, climbing in and grabbing the keys left in the ignition to start up the car just as their door slammed open. They didn't hear Travis' yells, as Mason revved the engine and drove just as fast as he could out of their neighborhood. He didn't dare slow down until they were out of town, out of state even.

Mason has an online friend named Kara who offers them a home in New York! They obviously take her up on that offer. Mason and Kara quickly become WAY more than friends and suddenly they're dating and smooching
Cam moves into the school district and meets Casey freshman year, immediately attaches himself to him and now they're besties forever and ever.
And yea :3 that's Cam's backstory teehee
And wr have a whole ass au where actually their families are good and not abusive or neglectful actually. So there's that. Uhm. And I wanna be SO CLEAR. None of the kids are supposed to be unsympathetic. They are all victims in their own right. BUT Caleb is a bitch <3 its okay cuz I love him.
Btw, does Cameron have an updated design? 👁 I miss him lowkey
