man i freaking love characters who start out naive and hopeful and then have it BEATEN OUT OF THEM by a series of increasingly tragic and unfair events

When you write a super whumpy sentence and a part of your brain is like

Woah easy there, Satan.

The villain, about the torture the protagonist: “Oh, I’m going to enjoy this.”

Me:

Whump Writer Problem:

Google search history.

normal writers: and then this character is wounded because they need to stay in this location despite not wanting to. an injury is a good way to keep them in the place the plot is happening even when it would make more sense for them to leave

me: and then this character is wounded because i like it

me: *writing a cute shippy fic that has a little bit of emotional hurt/comfort but is otherwise just fluffy and cute and shippy*
