the Myth of Morphelia
Being a descendant of the goddess of love herself,
Morphelia’s heart was the biggest to have ever been borne into man, let alone a lady.
In one lifetime she divided the love she had to give between many suitors
She was never faithful to any of them and though her heart had so much love to give,
it was spread thin and appeared flimsy and translucent in the light of the sun,
And the sun himself was disgusted by Morphelia’s behavior
And condemned her
“In the next lifetime, though you may love with all your heart
You may only love in dreams
For I wish not to look upon your infidelity
No, Morphelia, your love will never see my light again.”
And so in her next life, Morphelia loved as hard as she had before
But upon waking discovered a sadness she couldn’t explain
A sadness she couldn’t even remember
The more she tried to think about it the more the memory slipped from her fingers
When the sun rose to see her cry she shone up there so satisfied
Morphelia had no more love to give when she woke up
Something in the moon took pity on Morphelia
For she was the only one able to gaze upon Morphelia and her lover and see how truly happy the two were together
Morphelia’s love was unlike any love the moon had ever seen
And so the moon gave Morphelia a parting gift
And let her sleep forever
