Funny when someone introduces you to something, you get really into it, and then they lose all interest in it. Oh so you’re just going to abandon me at the party you invited me to. Dude you were my ride.

you know, the number 1 thing i did in my spare time as a teenager was read (and actually in my not spare time, i got told off for doing it during class all the time), and i read a fuck load of YA. and the thing is, i was reading YA right when the boom happened and i was the target audience. so while i know i've always been more critical of certain things, there's definitely some stuff that has aged sooo poorly and like. i still have most of the books that i bought during that time. while i read about 100 books a year, i like for at least 90~ of them to be new reads. but with that said...i have all these fucking books sitting around on my shelves and in storage, i should just reread that shit? esp since i literally cannot even count how many times i've reread certain series because that was about 75% of my reading at one point in my life lol.

adding a cut bc i have a problem with being succinct

anyway i need to find a happy medium between rereads and new reads (and fuck, ESPECIALLY reading my physical tbr), and i think i'm going to reread one of those YA series next.

now, why the fuck am i making a tumblr post about this? well. i literally would not be on this website were it not for...the mortal instruments (tomato tomato i'm on desktop and don't want to look up the emojis). anyway i haven't read any of those books since i was...18? that even then i should have fucked right away from there years prior because the author is a massive fucking cunt! i cannot stand her ass! but her books are the reason i joined tumblr and i do want to know if they hold up (i'm sure they don't. especially considering some of it is fic with the serial numbers filed off and there have been multiple plagiarism accusations lol, nvm what CC got up to in terms of fandom wank l m a o). now, if you love those books or the show or whatever idc i'm happy it makes you happy (it made me really fucking happy for years), but i have just a lot of negative associations with it that's personally soured it for me.

all that to say, i'm gonna reread these books and return to my booklr roots and do a tiny little update post when i do. knowing me, i'll do ridiculous reviews on my storygraph, but i think it would be fun for me to blog just a wee bit like i used to.

soooo i'm going to start with city of bones. i think i want to try to read all 6 tmi books, but we'll see if i make it that far lol. i used to tear the fuck through them so who knows. i remember liking the infernal devices better, but in a batshit covid purge i got rid of them so i don't own them to do the publication order reread. ah well. after tmi, i'm going to definitely do divergent, which i'm confident aged like milk even more so.

Alright, I think I like tumblr now.

A pun post crossed my dash, and I reblogged it with an equally bad pun in return. A couple of my followers find it funny, it's a good day for everyone.

That was on July 7th.

Virality on Reddit was entirely algorithmic. You could garner a couple crossposts, but the success of a post was entirely dependent on whether or not it hit r/all--the main page of Reddit. If your post does that, it's immediately exposed to 10x the number of people and immediately gets upvoted.

On my pun post, I get a couple reblogs. And those reblogs get a couple reblogs--nobody really adds any content to the post, it just gets a couple reblogs here and there.

There's a specific chain of reblogs that I'd like to focus on. The most popular post on this chain has about 25 reblogs on it. Half the posts have three reblogs or fewer. Five posts in this chain have just one reblog total.

But the reblog chain keeps going. And going. It breaches containment many times over. And finally, after a chain THIRTY SIX posts long, at 9:30 AM, July 22nd this morning, it hits a popular account.

99% percent of the people who have seen the post--virtually unchanged from how it left my dash--have seen it because it was curated by 36 different people. That's insane to me.

None of those 36 people know that they're part of this chain. They saw a post, reblogged it, and moved on. If any one of these people had not reblogged, the post would have a fraction of the impact it has.

And yet, after two weeks, the post has effectively hit the main page of tumblr. It was picked up, only because people liked it enough to show it to their followers. There were no algorithms necessary.

You really, truly, cannot get this on any other website.
