i hedcanon that hedwig has a tendency to drink before performances on particularly bad days because sometimes she just gets so insecure about her performance that she can't even go on stage without a bottle in her hand, still sweaty from the stress. this especially happened when she first got gigs and still happens frequently. maybe after the events of the show transpire, she stops doing that, but... who knows?

I can imagine her hanging on by a thread sometimes and feeling like she needs it to keep going.

That’s actually a wise move that many people do practice. Don’t have enough job experience, but need it to get the job? Put yourself down as having had experience in a position in a company that is no longer in business, especially if it closed years ago. They literally have no way of verifying this (do not do this for chains wherein only the store closed, but not the chain). It’s a good way to fluff up your resume, just make sure you put down a position wherein you used skills you already have.

For instance, you can say you were a Personal Assistant – typing, data entry, responding to emails, taking phone calls.

Or you were an entry level cashier/customer service worker. Retraining is simple at that point.

honestly, something i frequently think about that people don't usually discuss is yitzhak between exquisite corpse-WLTR and midnight radio.

i've always felt like he hadn't felt remorse for what he'd done before that -- VALID... because, well, it was quite warranted... yet he'd also felt a bit bad (not guilty); i think despite hating hedwig and what she'd done to him, they'd developed some kind of codependency between the two of them, if that makes sense. they kind of *need* each other, and not just because yitzhak quite literally cannot leave hedwig... which i think quite makes sense but at the same time is definitely not healthy for either of them

another thing i think about is hedwig and yitzhak *during* midnight radio. before the song starts/hedwig addresses him, you can see him sitting on the stool with a rather distraught (if this is the correct word) expression on his face. then, yitzhak expected hedwig to be a bit petty and force him to put the wig on her (when she reaches the wig out, he walks rather forcibly), as that is admittedly in character for her more normal and outwards self to do, but hedwig does not do that! i think by the point he is given the wig, you can see that he pretty much looks on the verge of tears at that point, like here.. you can kind of see how he feels on his face, and i find that quite telling; yitzhak is one of those characters that you usually can't just read their emotions from their faces right away.

so he's pretty grateful (perhaps an understatement?). i'd say it was pretty shocking for him that hedwig actually gave him the wig, and it carries a lot more meaning than what is seen.

hedwig's feelings are a lot more implicit here, than explicit (at least to me). i think the contrast here is pretty important; it kind of switches around the roles from here on in.

during krystal's entrance, you can see the joy on hedwig's face (apologies; i'll try to upload the specific clip in a reblog. damn tumblr.) this shows that she has started to see her surroundings more and what makes people around her feel certain emotions, and giving yitzhak (the first person in her reach) as well as the other band members (will elaborate on this some other time) something they didn't expect from her; care (??). i think she's always cared at least a bit. but show that, she did not.

a core part of a sort of redemption for her was changing how others saw her, and i think doing that was a pretty good move for her to actually be able to change (that was how i interpreted the ending? i don't know if this is the public view of it, lol).

anywY....i love this show, i think the relationships are so complex and having a personal interpretation them first is a huge part of truly understanding the story.. thanks if you've read this far :)

ohhhhhhh kayyyyy........i am not a chef of any kind so my analyses do not live up to the symbolism of foods...

ok so hedwig would like Very Fancy food. but she never gets to eat it (they can't fucking afford it bruh) but luther took her out to eat in a luxurious international restaurant while on the road and she had loved that ever since. she now associates it with him/ richer and more privileged people in her life and i personally think she'd eat it whenever she could just so she can disassociate a bit and imagine she was a different person?????? like an escape?????? i'm making this too deep. but she just sticks to cheap shit like corner café food for 2 dollars.

yitzhak. yitzhak would like some traditional croatian foods. like a comfort food. i think it would bring back memories for him, maybe of his childhood or a source of comfort for him when he was younger (it was really rough in croatia and i think he would have found it a comfort? or like just a temporary joy). i found something like stuffed peppers would be a source of comfort. it is a filling food which also isn't that hard to make. he wishes he could cook, or at least find it for cheap in america, so he can recollect these memories.

last but not least, tommy.... i think tommy would eat the most unhealthy shit known to man. insane amounts of fast food. energy drinks. instant cookers... you'd think he'd have 15 liver maladies by now. i think that is because his parents are neglectful so they never cooked actual food for him so he had to stick to those foods or nothing, because he can easily fix those and eat them. i think it's a stark contrast to hedwig's food choices, who tries to avoid these choices as much as possible

☆ - hed-canons (in no particular order)

over the course of his relationship with hedwig, yitzhak uses a bunch of "no-makeup" makeup - i.e. tinted lip balm, tinted moisturizer, etc.

hedwig's actually decent at cooking/keeping spaces clean after working so many odd jobs. if she's messy, it's deliberate.

both hedwig and yitzhak collect fashion magazines.

tommy gnosis brings a beat up bible everywhere he goes, even years after the last time he willingly read a passage.

hedwig smells so strongly like hairspray, cigarette smoke, and some knockoff of a luxury perfume.

hedwig has a very specific mcdonalds order, and she makes yitzhak get it for her at all hours of the night if she's sad, or homesick. (i specifically mean before the boycott, but like... i also don't think she'd respect the boycott very much tbh.)

hedwig would never admit it out loud, but she has really bad panic attacks. yitzhak often finds her in small spaces - in closets, under tables, sitting on the floor of their cramped shower - trying to regulate.

hedwig knows way too much about the royal family for some odd reason.

yitzhak will just stand outside of the bathroom door, and listen to hedwig sing in the shower.

random, but hedwig really loves ice cream. like, she will demolish a gallon in one sitting if the circumstances permit.

the amount of shitty television hedwig has forced yitzhak to watch with her should actually be studied.

hedwig will mail flowers to herself, and then act surprised when they show up, as if she doesn't know who they're from. ("yitzhak, you really shouldn't have," while knowing damn well she bought them.)

they both have the most fucked up sleep schedules imaginable.

tommy gnosis has used sharpies instead of actual makeup, and will do so in the future - eye health be damned.

hedwig writes diary entries in german, but there are numerous english words scattered across the pages.

hedwig gets really terrible breakouts when she's stressed, and she has absolutely zero patience when it comes to leaving her skin alone.

hedwig and yitzhak do celebrate some of the more mainstream jewish holidays together, and hedwig has absolutely burnt herself on popping oil while "helping" (hindering) yitzhak make latkes.
