Random Thought
I think a big part of privledge is the freedom to just be without the weight of your identity guiding everything you do.
Like if a guy wants to be an aerospace engineer, he’s a smart young man with big dreams, but for a girl, it’s like wow how revolutionary and brave of her going into a male dominated field and braving all the hardships.
I know people mean this genuinely, but it gets to the point where it becomes almost insulting because there’s a lot of subtle undertones that imply that it’s hard to break into because SHE isn’t enough to face such a manly and intellectual field. I don’t want to sound whiny because this seems to trivial to some, but these little comments and subtle attitudes chip away at people’s determination and make them feel foreign and alienated.
Conversely, it makes it harder to take up traditional fields because there’s a feeling of obligation to break barriars for other people so they don’t have to go through the same struggle. Furthermore, traditional roles and jobs are often devalued and seen as an “easy way out” when it’s just someone’s aspirations and genuine hopes.
In the end, it makes it hard to choose either road because no matter what people contaminate your decisions with their own perceptions of your motivations when you just want to because you’re human and have hopes and dreams for the sake of having them, with no real ties to your identity.
Having to juggle with these thoughts and always questioning your own motives and doubting your own resolve to do what you want to do weighs on a person in a way I think you have to experiance to understand. If it seems insignificant for some people, it’s because they don’t feel this jumble of conflicting thoughts skittering around the back of their heads every day. I think it’s pretty common for a lot of people though, but I could just be talking out of my ass.

what's your opinion on like being too pretentious?
you think oscar wilde’s gucci floral suit wearing angel ass spent his last gay breath making a witty remark about the wallpaper so that we could all live like a bunch of repressed 16th century puritans? are those glisteningly fresh rose petals going to throw themselves all over your scarlet chaise lounge and fake fur duvet? is that first edition of albert camus you bought at a thrift shop in paris going to lovingly read itself? y'all are really out there saying god gave us the ability to order cinnamon cappuccinos and buy herringbone tweed blazers and recite ovid to our friends only so we could not do those things? as it is with all paths in life, so long as you’re self-aware and not bothering or hurting anyone, you go ahead and be as pretentious as you want! it’s so much fun!!
A reminder to y’all from me.
Utena is basically done now. I still need to get contacts, figure out the makeup, and cut/style the wig, but the end is near. This is my first cosplay that was done mostly by me (my dad made the base of the sword but I added the foam and painted it), and while it’s not the greatest thing ever, I’m pretty happy with it since I thought it would turn out a lot worse. I’ll probably do Yuu from seraph no end next, but with my skill level it’ll probably flop (i have 0 actual sowing skills). Oh well, we’ll see.
Detail of Berenice’s tresses, 1878; by Ambrogio Borghi, exhibited in the Exposition Universelle in Paris.
There was something fascinating in this son of Love and Death.
Awkward cosplay progress pictures from a newbie cosplayer(?) (I’m so new I don’t think I even count as one lol)
Anyway....
I still have to do her sleeves (cuffs?), fix the pockets, find the right shoes, do the fancy shoulder pads-chain combo, etc, etc.
I’m pretty much “winging it” for now and have 0 legitimate sowing/crafting skills. So, even though it’s not the greatest, I’m happy(ish) with it (but have a giant fear of screwing the next parts up ginormously), and any advice for how to go forward would be much much much appreciated ♥️♥️♥️
hey its me ya girl who won’t shut up about her finished novel:
i posted it onto inkitt in case wattpad isn’t your cup of tea so here’s the link and i would be over the moon to receive reviews!!
Maxine Peake as Hamlet
okay but I did not know that there is a story about f. scott fitzgerald nervously showing ernest hemingway his penis because zelda said he couldn’t satisfy a woman with it and ernest hemingway was like “lol no dude you’re fine”
what are the modernists even
the best part of that story in context is that before they pull out their dicks, hemingway spends the better part of a chapter physically describing fitzgerald in great detail, claiming to be grossed out by him but obviously, obviously uncomfortably attracted
oh my god, it got better. I just went to find an excerpt and
Scott was a man then who looked like a boy with a face between handsome and pretty. He had very fair wavy hair, a high forehead, excited and friendly eyes and a delicate long-lipped Irish mouth that, on a girl, would have been the mouth of a beauty. His chin was well built and he had good ears and a handsome, almost beautiful, unmarked nose. This should not have added up to a pretty face, but that came from the coloring, the very fair hair and the mouth. The mouth worried you until you knew him and then it worried you more.
ernest hemingway calm down and control your thirst a little
“The mouth worried you until you knew him and then it worried you more“ is a hell of a line
