When you’re in the great continent of Africa, even in an educational setting, you cannot leave without doing some tourist-y things. We visited “Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage” where they take care of abandoned baby elephants. The ones that grow up to being able to live in the wild is let go, and the ones that aren’t are taken care of. We were stood very close so it was clear that they were accustomed to people, but there where no signs of them being used purely as a tourist attraction. (If you want, you can visit their website and “adopt” an elephant and in return for a monthly fee you get updates on “your” elephant.)

These two lovely ladies are dancers that are a part of a group of young adults, called “Vocals”, that grew up in the slums and and managed to escape the many horrible fates that meet young children in slums. To help children in their community they offer a place where kids can dance, play music or make products like jewelry instead of walking the streets. They were kind enough to meet us at our hotel and perform and talk to us.
