You were always so loyal, and in the end that was your downfall.
@vernades / sc.
he steps heavily through the dense foliage with a soft rattle of metal on metal, too unbothered to mind the noise the armoury on his back is prone to making. this part of the woods is deep and obscure enough, and he’s tired after a long week of travel and very little sleep.
for such big glowy things, the shrines are surprisingly hard to find, he thinks glumly. but i should be close. perhaps just beyond here . . .
Link pushes past a line of trees and its low-hanging branches, out into a small clearing, hope swelling in his chest --- only to be disappointed when it’s not a shrine that greets him, but another person. in an instant, he’s reaching for the sword over his shoulder, stance lowering in caution, instincts forcing its way through his haze of exhaustion. what is he ( or she? he can’t really tell with that garb ) doing this far out alone? a traveller? another spirit? someone out for his blood? goddess, he should’ve attempted to be quieter . . .

“ah, General.” he would snap to attention like a respectful soldier, but it’s hard to do so when the general appeared just in time to witness Link gracefully introducing his rear to the flour-covered floor. an overturned bowl sits on his blonde head, dripping a thick, goo-like substance all over his hair and clothes as he tries to peer at his superior from beneath the wooden rim. the apron he threw over his tunic barely did anything to salvage his attire. around them, the kitchen is in disarray; brown matter smeared across the counter, broken egg shells and yolks strewn on one end, a questionable mix of ingredients on the other. General Mattias sure has a knack for timing, huh. “how - how can i help you, sir?”

tragedyloved / himself?
One brow arches at the question. It’s definitely not one he expected. Did he not recognize himself? Sure, there were differences. His hair was a lighter gold, bangs styled with a partition. The other’s eyes were a lighter blue. But there were far more similarities– they would easily be thought of as twins. It had been the same with the goat herder from Ordon all those years ago. Link shook his head, still perplexed.
Don’t You Know Yourself? At least physically, he ought to. Their similarities likely ended there–though he remembered he’d shared quite a bit with the Ordon boy. Link wasn’t the same person as then, though. So many years had passed, and he would see them all pass. Unless this hero failed. We Are the Same.
when was the last time he saw a mirror? or a still body of water which wasn’t a puddle he stepped over or a spring for him to quench his thirst? he doesn’t even know the colour of his own eyes - just his hair, long as it is. all he knows is what everyone is telling him - that the world is in ruins, that he has a princess to save, that it has been a hundred years since he failed to do what he’s expected to do now.
Link shrugs, tired of remembering nothing. “i don’t know what you’re talking about. who are you?”
lunafaeris / a travelling bard?
Basking in the beauty of the tranquil, morning air, Anton stood watch over the campfire and his friend’s belongings as he patiently waited for them to return. They shouldn’t have been too far gone, as they were only going up the road to South Akkala Stable to inquire about the Spring of Power rumored to be somewhere in the region, but even so he still had his trusty bow and quiver stocked full of arrows should he need to fend off any of the local wildlife.
As he was passing the time, he thought now would be a fine opportunity and began playing a song on his violin, one of the first songs that his mentor Kass ever taught him. It had a surprisingly warm, nostalgic feel to it, as it was said to have been one of the ancient riddle songs the Hero of Time played ten of thousands of years ago. He then heard a twig snap over the sound of the music, freezing his stance while lifting his bow from the strings, only to find that another traveler had wandered across their campsite. Another Hylian from the looks of it, around the same age as him… but what was he doing traveling alone?
“ Sorry about that… you startled me, is all. What brings you this far north? Are you looking for something to eat? ”
an abrupt halt to his music leaves Link oddly dismayed. he pauses mid-step, brows furrowing as the strange sensation swelling within him dissipates with the phantom ring of the last chord.
“no, i was just . . .” the words struggle to make themselves known, because Link himself doesn’t know what made him feel curiously unsettled; it’s not like he’s never heard good music before. he settles for a vague gesture at the bard’s violin. “ . . . drawn to your music, i suppose. i’m headed to Kakariko village.” between death mountain’s blazing environment and reclaiming Vah Rudania, Link figures he needs a quick respite amidst friendly faces ( and stock up on bomb arrows ). “didn’t think i’d see anyone else till further down the road.”
gaze flitting keenly across their surroundings, Link continues his approach. he notes the items left behind by the other man’s companions, mentally calculating their numbers from the amount of bed rolls and equipment, if that pot beside the fire has enough leftovers for a man fresh from a shrine quest . . .

Link shrugs, and the movement causes some of the cliffside dirt smeared across his face to flake off his skin. there’s an angry red along his cheekbones where it had scraped against the earth when he’d lost his grip scaling the bluff, sending him into a twenty-foot plummet before he found purchase on a jutting rock. it earned him matching abrasions on his arms and knees, both of which are more severe than the ones marring his face.
but it’s nothing for his companion to fret over. some boiled water and a couple of hearty truffles and he’ll be good to go. besides, it’s worth it, and Link shows as much by raising his fistful of silent shrooms to his friend. five, just as requested for the payment of fifty rupees. Link grins, quite pleased with himself.

there’s a gash across his upper arm, glistening dark crimson through his torn tunic sleeve, both cloth and skin singed where the shock arrow had grazed him. Link blinks blankly at it, as though seeing it for the first time as Sidon begins tending to his wound with a sort of caution that is at odds with his size.
“no … it’s fine.” Link tries to pull his arm away, gaze dropping as his head ducks slightly. the wound’s already practically cauterised itself anyway, and he has gotten worse. this is nothing compared to what would’ve happened if Link hadn’t gotten in the way of the electrified arrow, if it had struck Sidon instead …
@lunafaeris / for anton! / sc.
a lilting melody drifts through the tranquil foliage upon a gentle breeze. tender notes greet him like a familiar friend - warm on his cold cheeks - disturbing nothing, engulfing everything. Link pauses, curious gaze turning towards the source of sound, before he changes course to follow it. the instrument is unlike most he’s accustomed to hearing ( at least, not since his century-long slumber ) but something about it draws him in.
pushing past a line of trees, Link finds a bard sitting at the base of a tree, a violin tucked between shoulder and chin. around him seems to be remnants of a campsite - indication that the stranger isn’t travelling alone. yet, Link doesn’t retreat. he approaches carefully but not quietly, in the bard’s direct line of sight should he look up, not wanting to come across as suspicious or startle the man.

@nxulan / for kari! / sc.
“ . . . i don’t think you should be eating that raw,” he says, softly with no real urgency, honest eyes trained upon the uncooked game the stranger has in his hands. casually chewing through his own skewer of grilled meat, Link gestures at the other man’s supposed food. “those red spores - potion masters harvest them for beast poison.”
tragedyloved / familiar face.
Link won’t catch him commenting on the staring. It’s something he often finds himself doing with people because he’s usually on alert. Watching for signs of trouble. Waiting to see what bad thing might happen next. He’s cautious–perhaps a little paranoid. But that’s what happens when you spend years and years on your own. Only now, things have become unbearable what with the renewed ferocity of monsters roaming the plains. At least they had come upon one another. That’s all the elder wanted.
Do You Have a Question? he signs, though he’s unsure Link understands it. He knows little of the other except that he was a knight before–well, whatever happened.
there’s a questioning tilt to his head as Link observes the other man’s hands, blue gaze flitting between nimble fingers and his face. it’s both familiar and not - like riding a horse after a century of sleep. his memory is fragmented but his body, through something profound, remembers and understands.
“have we . . . met?” he asks, eyes bright, not quite able to emulate his sign language. perhaps they’ve crossed paths on the sprawling lands of hyrule. perhaps they were comrades before Link lost his memories to time. perhaps . . .
