Helicopter passenger service on the roof of the Pan Am Building, 1964.
The helipad operated from 1965 to 1968, allowing New Yorkers to fly right into midtown. It briefly reopened in 1977 but after a sideways landing killed five including one woman at street level who was struck by a rotor blade, the helipad was retired and company went out of business. š³

What a brilliant building #realestate
A good real estate deal is rarely just about the property itself. The building, land or location may be what first catches your attention, but the real outcome of a deal is often shaped by everything happening around it. Timing matters. Finance matters. Market conditions matter. Risk matters. The structure of the transaction matters. And, perhaps most importantly, the people involved can completely change the direction of a deal. Two properties that look almost identical on paper can produce very different outcomes depending on when they are bought, how they are financed, what assumptions are made, and how effectively the transaction is managed. This is one of the things that continues to interest me about real estate. There is always another layer to understand. A property may look expensive until you understand its development potential. A site may look attractive until you consider infrastructure, planning restrictions or financing costs. A deal may appear straightforward until negotiations begin and the interests of buyers, sellers, lenders, investors, developers and advisers start interacting. Real estate therefore sits at the intersection of economics, finance, psychology, law, strategy and human behaviour. That is why I continue to study, write about and work in this field. The more you understand the different forces influencing property, the better equipped you are to evaluate opportunities, recognise risks and make informed decisions. I will be sharing more thoughts, observations and lessons from my journey through real estate, investment, development and deal making. Join my journey. Link in bio.

The Psychology of Residential Developers: Lessons from Behavioral Economics and Additional Explanations for Satisficing
An interesting paper on the psychology of residential developers argues that development decisions are not driven by profit maximisation alone.
Rayman Mohamed highlights how loss aversion, mental accounting, narrow bracketing and profit targets can influence developers to choose satisfactory rather than theoretically optimal outcomes.
One particularly useful insight is that developers may evaluate projects individually rather than as part of a wider portfolio, potentially making them more risk-averse and less willing to pursue additional opportunities.
A useful reminder that real estate development is as much about psychology and decision-making as it is about finance, land and economics.

China built millions of new homes before people were ready to move into them. Many stayed empty for years because planners expected growing cities to fill them over time. Some later became busy neighborhoods, while others remained mostly empty.
The First Encounter
For some reason, the sight of her reading caught his attentionāperhaps because, for someone who enjoyed active hobbies like boxing and racing, the scene felt oddly stillāand for a moment, he quietly watched her.
He found something graceful in the way she read: the angle of her wrist holding the book, the unhurried motion of her fingers turning the pages with a relaxed air, as if nothing needed rushing, even the subtle movements of her head as her eyes followed the lines. There was a kind of natural, effortless grace in her readingāone that could stir a begrudging envy in those who had never known ease.
When she stood up, he naturally turned his gaze away, then glanced at her book as she walked past him. He almost burst out laughing, barely managing to hold it in. In her hand was, in fact, a weird fiction novel with a garish coverāso lurid and bizarre that it looked like the sort of book only the most devoted genre enthusiasts would appreciate.
ā The Soul of Rage
Sometimes the biggest problem is not knowing what to do.
It is knowing exactly what needs to be done and still putting it off.
The unfinished task. The difficult decision. The clutter. The conversation you keep avoiding.
That is what Sort Your Crap Out is about.
Not perfection. Not reinventing your entire life overnight.
Just taking responsibility for what is in front of you and starting to make progress.
