Decolonize Witchcraft and Spirituality!

That means:

Respect closed practices! Either go through the proper channels to be initiated or leave them alone!

Respect indigenous and diasporic cultural traditions! Many of these cultures were nearly wiped out by colonization. Respect the boundaries of what you can and can’t practice as an outsider.

Purchase crystals from reputable sources! Some crystals are mined unethically and through minimally-paid or slave labor.

Stop supporting shops and authors who appropriate from closed cultures! It should be obvious, but don’t buy dreamcatchers from a non-Native person and avoid metaphysical authors who perpetuate racist stereotypes about marginalized religions and magical traditions.

Listen to and prioritize witches of color/practitioners of color in dialogues about racism, cultural appropriation, and exotification in the magical communities.

Examine your own craft and see if you are unintentionally appropriating any cultures

Educate yourself on practices outside of your own so you don’t unintentionally invalidate or appropriation marginalized religions and spiritual practices.

I typically spend most of my time looking down at the dirt, but sometimes….holy shit. The universe is amazing. There’s so much of it.

While all these douche bros tweet about how Hugh Hefner was badass for getting so much “pussy” and having young “bitches” around him just remember what he was really like:

• Wrote about female sexuality and how women should enjoy themselves in the 60’s and 70’s

• Hired female photographers when magazines like Vogue still didn’t

• Openly accepted gay sexuality even when he was young

• Helped Bettie Page get the rights to her image in the 90’s when she was poor and elderly and people were making money off of her without her knowledge

• Had his ex wife and kids live next door so he could still see them and help raise them

• All playboy playmates were allowed to use the facilities at the Playboy Mansion for the rest of their lives, it wasn’t just a place for the newest young girls

• Didn’t use his fame and image to force girls to be with him or assault them. He would formally ask girls to live with him and be his girlfriend, and they were all over 18.

If you don’t like him that’s fine, but he wasn’t some sexual predator-he did what wanted openly and was honest about it.

She had seen alcohol destroy several a person before, including her own mother. After her incident at the bar with sulfuric acid, Cordelia, herself, stayed away from the stuff like the plague. 

“--maybe there’s something you would wish to talk about? Maybe the reason why you’re downing your...” the blonde scanned the room quickly, “third bottle of wine?”

Cordelia blinked in surprise when Roni ran around the bar and grabbed her hand nearly immediately after she agreed to go out with her. She hadn’t expected to be going so soon, as usually she planned everything beforehand. This didn’t seem to be how Roni did things. Her head jerked back with a laugh when Roni wondered about dancing. 

                    “Oh, god, I haven’t danced in years, and for a good reason. I look like a complete fool on the dance floor. I never know what to do with my hands.I-is that what we’re about to go and do??”

Her lower lip found refuge between her teeth as she tried to hide a coy smile. Ever since she became the supreme, others treated her with respect, but kept her at a considerable distance. They placed her on a pedestal and admired her from afar. This made it considerably difficult to make friends, which Cordelia was desperate for. Roni was the only one that didn’t seem to act like, or even care, that she was the most powerful witch in America.
