The full moon...
But what if I hurt you?
Then I'll heal. As will you.
Hey eyebrows furrowed with confusion at three things. One, why didn’t she think to look at the types of beer? Two, why was he looking at her like that? And Three, why did she like it? She looked him up and down, a smirk creeping across her face. “Well the kind of beer you like would depend on what you’re into…”
William stuck his tongue to the inside of his cheek, trying to stifle his grin before he laughed and looked down. "All right." He said, pursing his lips and looking back up at her. At least she had an answer for everything, she'd do good as a bar maid. "Suggest to me, a type of beer you think I like."
The full moon...
That makes one of us.
This might sound kind of messed-up, but I've got a cage in my basement. Sometimes I'll put myself in there if I feel particularly rowdy upon a full moon. You're welcome to be a cell buddy.
Good to know. Still care to know what entertains me?
I find that I'm regretting ever asking.
"Oh." Was all she could manage to get out of her mouth. If she said any more she knew she would never shut up. If she said any less she feared she would never talk again.
She laughed as he finally gave in and listened to her. She decided to play along, so she stood up straight and grabbed a towel cloth from the counter and threw it on her shoulder. She leaned on the bar in front of him. “Ahem, what else can I get you this evening, sir?” And giving him a contagious grin.
She looked down at the floor shyly when he approved her drink. She was amazed at how at ease she felt around him and at this bar. She had been so high strung and worried for such a long time and now she was goofing around and making drinks. She supposed she had him to thank for that. “Good, when I’m off the clock I’ll try it myself. But I can’t drink too much so don’t make me make too many more girly one’s okay?”
The werewolf snorted and shook his head, "Scouts honour."
William looked at her lips first, then his eyes went to hers and he chewed his own lip. "What's your best beer?" He challenged after a moment, an eyebrow arching.
First. How old are you kid?
Wow, kid. That's a way to compliment a guy. I'm twenty one.
She felt the lump in her throat and the pit in her stomach. How was she supposed to handle that? She turned away from him and preoccupied her hands with busy work, hiding her face from him so he didn’t see her worry. Then she turned back to him, and you would have never known she was worried at all. The same reassuring smile on her face as always. “Well that would explain the antsy feeling I’ve had for the past week. Will that finally go away for a little bit?” She laughed. She didn’t want to get used to it, but she supposed she had no choice.
"How can you tell if it’s any good if you don’t at least try it?" She teased. "Plus, if I’m going to be hired doesn’t that mean you get the night off?" She started putting the bottles away, getting slightly confused as she tried to find where they went. "What next?" Her hands were still a little shaky from her nerves of turning so Bella was trying to distract herself form thinking about it. "Uh, sure, I can have a few. But I’ll need your help getting back to my house tonight. I get lost way too easily. " She was being honest, she was horrible with directions. She laughed. "But I guess I can’t have you drinking alone can I? Then you might look pathetic, especially if you’re sipping on that Cosmo."
William shrugged, "I can't say. There's a point where your body is your own, only it knows what it's going to do." He watched her carefully, wondering how she might be taking the news. Really taking it. But her expression was unreadable.
He gave a sigh, looking over his shoulder again then shrugging. "Ah, why not?" He pulled himself onto a stool, facing the bar. It was a bit like watching a girl take the driver's seat of his car, he was nervous, but he tried not to show it. Instead, he grabbed the cosmo, sipped it, then gave it a nod of approval.
However he put it down quickly when she mentioned the cosmopolitan and he tried not to snort the drink back up. He slid the drink away from him. "I promise, if you save my reputation by taking the girly drinks- I will take you home safe and sound."
The full moon...
…it’s tonight isn’t it. I can feel it.
Bella, hey, you'll be fine. Don't worry, I have faith in you.
If I gave you a hint… I’m sure you’d know what I find most entertaining.
And what hint would that be?
"Y-You mean I don’t just ‘pop’ into a werewolf? It takes a lot of time?" The color drained from her face. "I don’t remember the first time I turned at all. It all just happened so fast, I was attacked and turned in a matter of about 20 minutes and then I just kinda showed up here. I guess I just blacked it out, and I hoped it would be like that every time, you know?" She unconsciously touched her side, but maintained eye contact. Bella didn’t want to seem scared, but she couldn’t really help it. "Be brutally honest with me, please. Does it hurt? What is it like?"
As she spoke she started to prepare a cosmopolitan. “Well I have made plenty of these for a desperate lady or two, but when I drink, which isn’t too often, I prefer just a gin and tonic.” She finished the drink and laughed at him, this tall, handsome, sort of roughed up but manly looking man, drinking a small pink drink with a curly lemon grind poking out of it. “A cosmo for the pretty lady.” She set it down in front of him and waited for him to try it. “Go on, drink up. It hopefully won’t kill you.”
William tried to stifle a snort, looking down. "No, I'm afraid it's not really that easy. Sorry." But then her asking what it felt like made his smile slowly begin to fade, and he felt sorry for the girl well and truly. He bit his lip, looking around them and then he cleared his throat. "It feels like fire in your bones." He told her truthfully. "Sometimes it can feel great, you know, after the pain. Liberating, I guess. Like scratching an itch you've felt building for a month. But sometimes... Sometimes it can be just plain rough and messy."
He looked at her apprehensively. "But like I said, it's something you get used to over time."
William grinned when Belle slid the drink to him, and he admired it. She had a crafty hand for not only mixing, but decorative drinks. He was glad he had bumped into such a girl. The Den could use her. But he held up a hand and shook his head, "I try not to drink during work hours. We might have a few to get through after your training anyway. If you care to join me that is. I don't think I could fathom drinking alone in the Den. It's a rare occurrence."
[shrugs] You don’t know me. You don’t know what I find entertaining.
Not sure I want to know.
"Really? I’ve never met a vampire but some one told me that we weren’t supposed to get along or something. Is that true?" She smiled back. "Although I’m sure any friend of yours is bound to be a friend of mine." She meant it to. She never had a hard time finding friends, it was part of what made her such a good bartender. She could talk to just about anyone about just about everything and her smile always brought people back, regardless of the fact that she averaged about 2 spills a night.
Bella listened as he spoke, busying her self with cleaning a glass to avoid making eye contact. She definitely perked up a little more as he spoke, the same old genuine smile returning to her face. “Really? You’d really help? What about you, won’t you be turned as well?” She really didn’t want to hurt him. Remembering how she felt after she had found out she had caused the death of a young man before she got here, her stomach dropped and her eyes fell. She didn’t know if she could handle the guilt of hurting someone else, she might lose her mind completely. Belle did her best to shake it off and smiled at him. “You know, they may call us monsters but you make me think they are wrong.”
"Rescue me? Definitely not how I want to start my first day. Although would you believe me if I told you it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve almost died in a puddle?" Bella was oblivious to his glances. She never thought anything of the attention people gave her because she never thought of herself as particularly beautiful or funny. Just Bella. But she noticed herself feeling more and more comfortable around him, and she definitely could get used to that. She gave him a sarcastic frown. "Darn, well lets just hope that I got my clumsiness for the day out with the towels thing. Now, this "blondie" knows how to make a drink or two." Bella leaned forward, challenging him with a wink and a smile. "Test me, and if I don’t make it completely correctly then you don’t have to give me the job."
"Emily's not like other vampires. Not to me anyway." William gave Bella a convincing smile. "I turn a lot faster than people like you. I was born with the gene, I've had a lot of years to practise." He assured her. "I can control it. It's difficult, but normally I have a few extra hours. We can use those to try and help you." He assured her.
He was flattered by her comment of not being a monster. He liked to think he was better than most, in controlling his terrible wolfish attitude. He wanted to think that he was just like any other good soul, he tried to be the kindest he could possibly be. Obviously, his efforts were being recognised.
William grinned at the challenge. "All right. How about a cosmopolitan? That's what you ladies find classy, right?" He gave her a teasing grin.
Bella smirked at him, thinking that he had to be kidding. Will was so nice and friendly, she just assumed he was friends with every one. When she realized he wasn’t kidding she ask, “Why? Doesn’t that get kind of lonely? Especially if everyone else is in a pack, and you are the odd one out?” She put a hand on her hip and looked at him an then at the other few people in the bar. She could tell they were listening. “I was hoping to find a ‘pack’ to, you know, help me control my turning.” Bella’s voice softened and lowered. She avoided eye contact with everyone and played with her fingers nervously. “I don’t want to hurt anyone.”
Her cheeks turned pink and she laughed at herself. “You can’t say I don’t have perfect timing.” Bella kicked into high gear, picking up the aprons and finding strategic places to hang them to dry around the bar. “I really don’t mind, this kind of stuff happens to me all the time. Not exactly the first impression I had in mind but then again, nothing really goes my way and at least I dried that spot on the floor before I fell in it.” When she finished cleaning her mess she leaned forward on the bar facing him. “Now, are you prepared to let me near those bottles or should I give you the chance to bubble wrap this entire bar first?”
"I consider it free choice, since we don't really have a choice about anything else that goes on around here. I don't know, I just never got close enough to any wolves to think about seriously joining a pack. My closest friend is a vampire after all, not a wolf." He looked her over sweetly. "Though I think that is going to change." He offered her a grin, he'd like to have Bella as a friend. She was cute and refreshing, instead of egocentric and demanding like a lot of people in town.
He frowned at her lowered voice however and felt his heart go out to her. He didn't like hurting people either, but he had. He came around the bar then, standing closer to her and frowning, tilting his head to try and search for her eyes. "Hey now, don't be that way. If you find a decent pack, hey, let me know. Otherwise you and me, Belle. We could make a team." He teased with a smile, then softened. "I'll help you control it. You can hurt me, I can take it. It's natural for me."
William laughed looking at the puddle, "That's true. It's so deep you may have drowned and I would have to rescue you." He went along with her joke. Something he realised about Bella that he loved, was her easy going attitude and the ability to make him laugh what felt like every twenty seconds. She had a good sense of humour, was adorably clumsy and nonetheless stunning. He wondered if giving her a job might have been a bad idea, he tried to stop noticing these things about her.
"Ah- you know what- damn it- we just ran out of bubble wrap this afternoon." He winced visibly, grinning afterwards. "You might just have to attempt without the safety net, blondie."
Asking what’s more terrifying waking up next to is a decent topic of conversation? Really, Will? *Shakes head and laughs.* Decent? Not really. More like funny, for some of us. Though, I’m not going to disagree on the egos-shoved-so-far-up-their-rears part.
Hey, look and you and me. This is a decent conversation. It can happen, you're just being a pessimist. He grins.
Ah. I’d rather not, ma’am. I’ve had a hell of a night battling the beast as it is. It’s not exactly as effortless as yours- no offence. He grins and holds up a hand.
I know. Reason why I find it entertaining.
Splitting my skin? Not as entertaining as you think.
I didn’t say that. I’m just not used to it.
Not used to it because you sleep with women more or not used to it because you only sleep with women?
He considers it. Definitely the latter.
She gave him a sweet smile, and started to put her long wild hair in a braid. She always felt uncomfortable when she felt eyes on her and when she walked in, she could feel the one or two other people watching her. She laughed lightly at his joke. So everyone that comes here is a werewolf? Does that mean they are like a pack? Some one I met told me that werewolves had to be in a pack, but I don’t exactly know how to go about doing that… Thanks Will, although I might be the one giving you grief. I warned you, I’m clumsy. And with that she grabbed an apron, that just so happened to be caught on the rest dragging them all down into a wet spot on the floor, soaking them all. See. One second, I’ll clean that up.
"Packs?" Will shook his head, "I avoid that kind of stuff if I can help it. There are such things as lone wolves." He gives her a lazy smile, watching her take initiative. He leaned his forearms on the bar bench, studying her when she pulled the apron. "Wait-" But he'd barely gotten the word out before the rest were falling to the floor. He laughed, straightening up to peer over the other side. "No, no, you're right. Don't worry about it."
