Keisha Carter is Mega Woman #1
“It has been two years since Keisha Carter discovered she was the daughter of the Greek god Zeus and donned the red and blue costume of Mega Woman. Since Mega Woman’s appearance other super humans have been popping up all over the country, and unfortunately most have been super villains. As Mega Woman defeated them, these menaces were locked up in Triguard Maximum Security Prison, the only place in the country capable of holding them.
Now a recent string of mysterious breakouts has caused villains to run rampant in Trinity City, and all of them have one goal in mind; Kill Mega Woman! As Keisha Carter and her allies investigate the ongoing events, an ancient enemy plots their ultimate revenge.”

Almost ready to hop on the road to NY. First order of business is the @blacknerdproblems nerd slam at @squareslam tonight w/ @labbess and @omarholmon. For the trip, I've equipped my Daisy Fitzroy shirt, leader of the Vox Populi revolution for my traveling mercies.
And then cuz you nice on the livetweet sticks, #Fsociety sends you a dope ass hoodie and welcomes you to the revolution #MrRobot
Who wrote this, cause the whole, “I need you to let me do things my way”, wtf? He is a King, he does things his way, and if he ain’t thankful that Ororo was there to save his ass…
I think David Liss wrote this particular arc. He kept switching with Reggie Hudlin on the title so I’m not sure? Listen, I love them as a pairing, like they could’ve worked. But with how “chivalrous” T'Challa always had to be, their romance was doomed from the beginning. Like, there were so many instances (this story, Worlds Apart, The Deadliest of the Species) where Ororo showed that she was more in love with T'Challa than he with her. Like she literally went into limbo to grab his spirit and was ready to sacrifice herself so Wakanda could have its king.
That gamer / collector life. #deusex #deusexmankinddivided #videogames

I guess anything can be a gun if the darkness surrounding it is hungry enough.

Jon, Lord Commander, survivor of the wildlings and white walkers, the sword in the darkness, loses all his composure and decides to take on Ramsay’s whole army. It took me 20 minutes to write that last sentence because I was too busy hunting online for a Sansa was Right shirt.

The relationship of Magical Girls to the shojou genre is an extraordinary one that has early roots as old as Tezuka’s Princess Knight (1953). The genre which heavily features girls and women can be categorized by the addition of magic & creature sidekicks, female protagonists and the strong emphasis on relationships (especially sisterhood!) It is a subgenre that empowers, inspires and even challenges gender roles. Today that influence and love is seen and felt in everything from the newer generation of magical girl franchises like Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Mildred Louise’s Agents Of The Realm webcomic.
Black Nerd Problems is looking for a new t-shirt to add to our collection and we’d love to have one that incorporates that love of the magical girl and we’d like your help. We looking for a design, a logo of sorts that has that shoujo / anime style representation. In addition to the shojou/magical girl feel: we’re looking for something that adds to the spirit of Black Nerd Problems: making sure that diversity is promoted and appreciated.
In short: we are looking for WOC artists to create an image that represents both the magical girl and our vision of standing out of the crowd and loving all things nerd unapologetically. This logo/image will be featured on t-shirts and possibly other merchandise in the future.
Further Note: We’d like to take a stance similar to Joamette Gil and the folks running the Power & Magic: A Queer Witch Comics Anthology in that the submissions can come from all women of color, not just cisgender or single-gender women. (Check them out! We can’t wait for their Kickstarter!)
Starting Monday, May 29th, 2016, we are opening the contest up to artists to submit. The call for submissions officially closes June 30th which is the birthday of one very special magical girl: Tsukino Usagi aka Sailor Moon. The timeline follows a voting period using the polling system on our website. The BNP family will take a look at the top five popular submissions and a winner will be chosen from that pool.
Read more about the prize, other contest details here on our site! [x]
Horizon Zero Dawn? – Aiight let me spit my shit on this real quick. I was trying to calm Omar down about how ain’t nothing but White people left in the dystopia future where humans have went tribal. I was like, man, I gotta see it up close, I gotta wait. Yeah, look like Black folk extinct in the future, fam. My girl ain’t even got an accent, yo. I might have accepted if it were British or Scandanavian or some shit. But nah, she sound like she from Pittsburgh or some shit. So…that’s a thing. The gameplay…might be best in show. Seriously. It plays incredibly. Innovative setting and gameplay with really unique characters and interactions. The gameplay we watched was stellar and satisfying, then we got about 10 minutes to play around with it ourselves. While we didn’t get to go on a mission, we got a feel for the controls and this might be my most anticipated game for next year…especially if they find a way to interject some melanin into that thing.

I’m gonna give this one some time. I am a huge God of War fan, but I also realize that I didn’t fuck with God of War: Ascension and didn’t feel one bit bad about that. But any time that a new God of War is announced, you immediately have my attention. So look, there’s some good stuff in the demo that was played, and some over the top action. It looks outright incredible and the new setting is pretty welcome. On the questionable side, the combat, by virtue of the new weapon that Kratos wields, almost completely changes the look of the game. The Norse Mythology is cool yet weird in terms of what we’re used to. And, we’re gonna have to wait see on the whole Papa Kratos and son thing. But the beard is cool. The beard is very cool..

Not-Jacqen down in the Hall of Faces and sees a blood trail, so he already knows this shit ain’t great. He finally finds where it leads and there’s T-Bob’s face added to the collection. Arya framed that shit like it was a housewarming present. Arya standing behind Not-Jacqen and is like, “you told Harpo to beat me.” Not-Jacqen ain’t got shit to say, so he gonna act like he proud of her and shit. Dude really got off easy. I was expecting Arya, having just killed his apprentice, to give Not-Jacqen the same line that Marlo gave Prop Joe. Not-Jacqen: Finally, a girl has become no one. Arya: Nah Pleighboy. A girl is Arya Stark of Winterfell. And you gonna put some respeck on my name. Now is we finished or is we done?

“I have been woman for a long time beware my smile. I am treacherous with old magic”
-Audre Lorde, “A Woman Speaks”
Despite what recorded history might tell you, women have always been responsible for historic moments and the nerd world is no different. Last year Black Nerd Problems celebrated Women’s History Month by talking about our favorite women characters who deserved titles of their own. This year we decided to celebrate our own stories and the women who have been most meaningful to our own personal history — the women of the BNP staff! From video games to anime to cosplay to literature, these women have been hard at work all year bringing you the best nerd columns on the web. We asked each member to tell us in their own words what it means to be a nerd and a woman. Come celebrate these fantastic writers with us by seeing what they had to say.
Read on here to see the fantastic ladies of Black Nerd Problems as they share their experiences, hopes and thoughts on the female nerd life here
