AU: Bun in the oven ^_^
When he could hear Grell say that nothing was wrong with her, physically anyway, William visibly relaxed and allowed his face to once again fall back to its normal expression of calm. Even so he was still shaken up inside but managed to hide it perfectly, he needed to so that the redhead would be able to calm down too. Everything to keep both her and the child out of harm’s way. “It is fine Grell. I am here now and the child is unharmed. Do not think of it anymore.” Which of course was an easy thing to say but hard to live by. And for once he knew it by experience. Sighing softly he sat down next to his wife and let her cling to him, after an ordeal of the kind she had had he for once saw no reason not to let her. “And you should know me well enough to know I would never allow anything to happen to our child. And neither to you.” There was a pause in which he adjusted his glasses, they had slipped down in his mad rush to get to her side earlier. “Both of you matter….too much to me.” Those words were uttered in a quiet voice and he placed his hand on Grell’s. Only then did he realize he had dropped his scythe on the floor the moment she had confirmed she was alright. He was acting too emotional, he was aware of it. But he couldn’t help it. Not this time.
William’s new calm demeanor helped the redhead to calm herself as well. After all, one of them had to remain stable, and it would certainly never be Grell, even when she wasn’t pregnant and moody. “Will…: She whimpered softly at his words, sinking back down into the blankets as he held her. There was a certain tenderness in his voice she had only heard a small number of times, but each time he used it, it was a reminder to her that he really cared, even underneath that cold exterior he put up. “I love you so much…” she murmured in barely above a whisper at this point, letting a small yawn escape her lips afterwards. She hadn’t noticed that the other had dropped his scythe, and she paid little mind to the fact he had been out of bed. All that mattered to her was that he was here now, and she felt… safe. Her and Rose were safe in William’s arms. With another tired sigh, she patted the bed beside her, requesting that Will give what he was working on a rest and come lay with her. It was probably just paperwork anyways, after all. At least, that’s what Grell assumed.
There was nothing he could do but to hold her and allow the redhead to pull him down on the bed. A part of him wanted to return to his on the nursery, but if neither Grell nor the child was well….it couldn’t have mattered. But they were safe; he would make sure of it and just this once he would let himself linger here. “You always utter ridiculous things. Now rest Grell.” Deep down he knew she would rest more easily if he was next to her. And in a way after what he had just felt so would he. William didn’t like to feel so many emotions at once, he had always had a good ability to control them but for a moment he had fear he wouldn’t be able to anymore. He didn’t like that at all. With a frown he pulled Grell closer to his chest and rested his head on top of her red hair. And then he closed his eyes and gave a sigh of relief. He woke up when the light from the window hit his eyes, his glasses were still in place since had forgotten to remove them the day before. He still held Grell in his arms and that made him remember what had happened the day before. Without knowing what he did he tightened his grip around his wife until he realized that might wake her up. Maybe he should leave her be while he got ready for work? And that was just what he did.
Now that Grell was in William’s arms, the baby bump securely in hers, she found herself comfortable enough to relax again, even if thoughts of that horrible nightmare were threatening to linger… Instead of thinking about it, she smiled at Will’s cold words, which to her, were heartwarming for some reason. After letting out one last yawn, she had safely drifted back to sleep on her husband’s chest.
Even though William had been the one up working all night, the redhead was still exhausted enough just form the baby that she remained sleeping as the light of day began creeping in. Even Will’s tightening grip and shuffling around had not been enough to wake her, and she remained asleep, even as the time to work drew near.
William had his routine every morning and not even the slumbering Grell could make him break it. It would be enough to scold her later, there wasn’t that he wanted her to rest that he left her be. Oh no not at all. He knew she would whine when he woke her up and so he let her be for as long as he could. Yes, that was the only reason for his actions. Straightening his tie to perfection, hair combed back in place and his suit covering every inch of his body he made it to the kitchen to prepare a small breakfast. Small for him anyway. Grell’s breakfast was significantly larger. Not that he would comment on it. Eventually he walked back to the bedroom with a frown on his face, took Grell’s ridiculously red and frilly robe and flung it at her head. “I will give you overtime if you are not ready for work and as a result arrive late to your duties Grell.”
The redhead finally awoke with a start as her robe was seemingly flung at her face. She couldn’t see William through the red fabric, but she could certainly hear him, and huffed. “You couldn’t have let me sleep for just a little while longer?” She whined, still trying to quickly recover herself knowing that Will would make good on his threat if she were late. Though, standing was not always the easiest task these days, and the redhead struggled to pull herself from the bed as quickly as possible. She attempted to take a few steps and pull her robe on, but a wave of dizziness suddenly overcame her, and she had to stop at the end of the bed and grip the bedpost before she toppled over. Taking a few labored breaths, she stopped moving altogether, and just concentrated on keeping herself standing. Being pregnant was harder than she expected. “Perhaps I should skip breakfast.” She suggested, not knowing if she’d have enough time to get to work if she was moving this slowly. Damn her fat body!
William had been observing her from the moment she had huffed at him. This was so usual that he didn’t care that it was a little condescending of her to address him in such a manner. Instead he watched as his wife had difficulty to stand properly. Had he been any other kind of man he might have smiled at her and maybe even laughed softly. But no. William’s face was as stoic as ever. “You will not skip breakfast. I have prepared it and the child needs nutrition too. There will be no discussion on this matter.” He watched her for a while longer before he stepped up to her and gentle took her into his arms. It was harder than it had been before and was it only his imagination that his back had cracked ominously? No matter. “Now stay still.” And with that he carried her, slowly, to the kitchen and managed to put her down in her chair without falling over. “Now I expect you to finish this meal without complaint.” He himself walked to his own chair and sat down opposite her, feeling like his back wasn’t made for this kind of thing.
Of course Will had been quick to scold her, but the hot headed shinigami was just too physically strained to want to argue. She did, however, find herself wiggling about uncomfortably when Will moved to carry her. “Willlllll!” She whined in his arms, crossing her own over her chest like a child as her face turned red. She used to love being picked up this way by him, but lately it was only making her feel moody. She could walk on her own, after all. Hell! She could still reap souls if she wanted to! It would just take a little more effort… Effort that Grell was in denial she had at the moment. After a short struggle, she settled into his arms and just allowed him to carry her to her darn breakfast. “Did you hear a cracking noise love?” She questioned once she settled back down, her pouting having been interrupted by said sound. Though, she didn’t give him much time to answer before she found herself digging into her meal. At least there wouldn’t be any more complaints about eating…
For William it was almost offensive that Grell obviously didn’t like his effort to help her. It took a lot out of him to admit he was worried over her and he had carried her to relive her of the effort to walk to the table when he could see she was having trouble. But when she squirmed the way she had been in his arms he felt like this might be the last time he did so. And to save his back too. “No I did not.” It might have been a denial on his part too but he didn’t think the redhead even heard him, engrossed as she was in her food. “I do however think if it will take you this long to move you should wake up earlier in order to get ready for work. I will not allow you to be late.” Both so she could avoid overtime but also because he didn’t want anyone at work thinking he was giving her advantages.

AU: Bun in the oven ^_^
Grell paused for a moment, blinking away her frustration at William’s explanation for staring, before a blush spread across her cheeks. “I’m sorry dear… I guess I’m just a little moody is all.” She admitted, calming herself as she entered their home. Typical Grell may have been in the mood to stand there and argue all day out in the snow, but pregnant Grell just wanted to get off her feet. She walked, well… more so waddled at this point, straight past her husband and right onto the couch, letting a relieved sigh escape her lips. “Why must you make mommy so tired?” She complained to her stomach, though still eyed it with a loving expression before sinking back into the couch cushions. After taking a moment to focus her breathing, she turned her attention back to Will, who was busy hanging up their hats and coats. “You know dear… the nurse told me today that it’s good to read to infants, even in the womb…. Will you come read us a story?” She asked, smiling innocently over at her love. Only an idiot would dare say no to anything the redhead requested at this point. Take her old attitude and throw violent mood swings into the mix, multiply it by fifty, and you have the answer of one, crazy, redheaded mess. One crazy redheaded mess that you weren’t allowed to strike, given her condition.
The argument was soon over and he found himself in the position of hanging up their items while Grell was throwing herself down on the couch. Honestly…with a soft sigh he walked up to her and kneeled down so he was able to remove her shoes. It wasn’t proper to wear such footwear inside, even if Grell had on occasion wore such things in the bedroom…with a frown he walked back so he could place her shoes next to his own. Such thoughts usually entered his mind when he was able to see her legs and he must repress them by all costs now. So he only rubbed his temple once before he replied to her. “I hardly believe the child will be able to hear anything, the barrier will make it rather impossible.” There was a long pause when he saw her face shift. Perhaps it was best not to meddle with fire this once. “However…I can read to you. I have nothing better to do at present.” And that really meant he really wanted to read to her, even if he would never say it out loud. After some consideration he decided on a work of Shakespeare, he felt it was the right choice. His fingers had lightly brushed over another work by one Thomas Wallis…but he had disregarded it. No that story was something he wanted to save for when the child had been born. It was what had brought Grell and him together and so should it bring the three of them together too. So opening the book he began to read, sitting next to his redhead and trying to make her comfortable.
Grell sighed happily as her shoes were removed, her feet aching terribly at this point. She was too tired to notice Will staring at her again, even though this time it was at her legs instead of stomach. In fact, she had closed her eyes completely for a moment of relaxation. That is, until she thought William was denying her request. Faster than ever before, her green eyes met back up with his, fire burning behind them, even in their tired state. Did he really think her that daft to assume she thought the baby would understand?! Of course she didn’t! But that didn’t mean they couldn’t read to her nonetheless! With a huff, Grell was about to retort when William interrupted, giving into her as he more than often did these days. It took her a few moments to relax again, but after a couple of labored breaths, she found a smile upon her features once more as she looked over at her husband. “I’d like that very much dear. Oh! Do choose one of my favorites!”
And so he did. Hamlet, a story of revenge and tragedy, and one that always excited the redhead. Though, for the first time ever during it’s reading, she found herself drifting off, slowly dangling on the edge of sleep as she relaxed herself onto William’s lap. She found herself not involved in the lives of Hamlet and Ophelia for once, but her own life, here with Will. Soon, there would be a little baby in her arms to read to like this… but not Hamlet of course! Children’s books… it was occurring to Grell that they had no children’s books. The couple had put the nursery on postpone because of their wedding, but the baby was nearly here! When the dark haired reaper took a pause in his reading, Grell wearily blinked up at him, smiling as she softly spoke up. “…Will? Do you think this month we can pick up some children’s books for Rose? We’ve yet to prepare-” The redhead let out a yawn, trying her hardest to remain conscious as she finished her thought. “the nursery.”
William had learned fast enough not to challenge Grell when so many hormones were raging through her. That didn’t mean he always liked to do so or felt she was right, but at the same time he didn’t want any strain on her. Since that would mean a strain on the child. For some reason he couldn’t understand he felt at peace sitting like this and reading. Not his favorite book but to feel Grell relax in his lap and to think that perhaps the child did the same was enough to make him feel emotions he had never allowed himself to let out or touch on before. Had his hands not been preoccupied with holding the volume he might have stroked Grell’s hair, when she didn’t notice. But there was no time for that now and soon enough he stopped reading to listen to her speak. “I have no objection to obtaining literary material for the child. It will be good for her education. I do have some samples in mind.” Of course these were for when the child would grow older but there was no need to tell Grell that, in fact there was no need to tell Grell anything anymore. William could easily see the redhead was fighting to keep away and he found the notion ridiculous. If she needed to rest she should. So without a word he closed the book, placed it neatly on the table and stood up, making Grell’s head drop from his lap in the process. But then in a few seconds he had knelt down beside the couch and lifted her into his arms. It took some effort, he wouldn’t lie about that but he managed to stand up properly and carry her to their bed. Once there he decided to simply place her on the sheets and pull a blanket over her. “Do not try to do more than you are able to. Now sleep or I will have to take measures.” Those involved tying her to the bed, but only to make her stay there. He stood there for a while and just watched her breathing grow more relaxed and when he was absolutely sure she wasn’t aware of him anymore he reached down to push some of her crimson hair from her face. It could be called an affectionate gesture, even if he would never admit to it. Grell had said something else hadn’t she? Something about the nursery. With a frown William walked over the half-finished room and stepped inside. He wouldn’t allow Grell to work on it at all; she wasn’t allowed to strain herself if he could help it. So it was up to him. Even if he wasn’t the most handy man he would make everything perfectly and by the book. And that was just what he did; folding up the arms of his shirt he set to work on the crib that was standing in the corner. And he never noticed how the light faded outside or that he should be in bed too.
“Mmmmm… We’ll have to go shopping -yawn- sometime soon then.” Grell concluded with a smile, happy to have William agree with her on the books. She couldn’t focus on much else, being so exhausted and all. But she did notice Will moving to pick her up. A blush made itself apparent on her face as her husband struggled to hold her… it didn’t help her self-conscious views on her recent weight gain. Lucky for William, she was too tired to argue or struggle, so she allowed him to carry her, regardless of her embarrassment. Once in bed, she almost instantly fell asleep, but not fast enough to miss William’s scoldings. She pouted at being told what to do, but it was a playful pout. One similar to when Will would scold her at work when she did something wrong. Half the time, she did things wrong on purpose, just to get his attention. It worked every time. Not today though. Today, she truly wanted to relax. With a soft sigh, her eyes closed once more. Just before she fully sank into slumber, she could have sworn she felt somebody touching her hair…
“W-What’s happening Where a-am I? …Will?” The redhead questioned. A bright light was beaming down on her, and she seemed to be laying on some sort of table, but all else around her was black. Suddenly, a voice that seemed familiar, but completely strange at the same time boomed out in the empty space, though her green eyes still only stared into a black abyss. “We’re sorry Mrs. Spears, but your baby…” Grell tried to sit up, but found herself unable to move. “We’re sorry Mrs. Spears, but your baby is…” The redhead became frantic, desperately trying to sit up. “My baby is what?! Where’s my baby?! Will! Where’s Will?!” Again, the voice spoke with unchanging emotion. “We’re sorry Mrs. Spears, but your baby is…” With all her might, the redhead managed to tear herself from the table, only to look down and see her stomach was completely flat once more, as is there never was a baby in the first place. “Gone.” She grasped at her stomach, her face streamed with tears as she tore at whatever cloth she was wearing over her bump-less tummy. “My baby! Where’s my baby?! William!!! Where’s our baby?! Will! W-“
“Will!” The redhead cried aloud, shooting up in her own bed this time. Breathing heavily and drenched in sweat, she threw off the blankets that were covering her torso, and was for once relieved to find she was still fat. Protectively, she grabbed her bump, trying her hardest to calm her breathing as her mind raced.
William had been busying himself, the crib was set up against one of the walls, everything made to perfection according to the manual. He had arranged some other items so they could be easily assembled at a later time, he didn’t want to cause too much noise since Grell was asleep. But the crib had taken longer to finish then he had anticipated but it didn’t really matter. Now it looked very nice indeed. Or so he felt. It was best to leave all the decorating to Grell, the redhead had a very opinionated view on the matter and William didn’t feel like arguing with her over it. Even if he had a sneaking suspicion it would involve a lot of red and a lot of his effort to make it happen. But it wasn’t like he was willing to have Grell paint walls or put up shelves anyway. No he would insist on doing it for a variety of reasons. With a sigh he adjusted his glasses…. Then he heard something that almost made him drop his precious spectacles on the floor. But for a moment he didn’t care, no he heard someone far more precious to him call out. With a voice filled with something he never wanted to hear. Fear. Dread. Panic. In a moment William was out of the nursery and running to the bedroom, he tore open the door and was greeted with the sight of Grell clenching at her stomach. There was only one word in his mind for a long time as he stared at her. Wrong. Something was wrong. With the child. With Grell. In two steps he was at her side, his usually stoic face mirroring everything he was feeling at this moment. He needed to help her, them. He needed to bring her to a doctor. He wouldn’t allow anything to happen to her or the child. He wouldn’t…lose them. Never. A image flashed behind his eyes in his mind. A table, cold and hard. Grell on top of it and with a stomach that wasn’t carrying a child anymore, a surgical cut running over her skin. And beside her on a smaller table a lifeless….No! William reached down to touch her face, trying to make her look at him. “What is wrong? What has happened?” Then in a moment he had his scythe in his hand, ready to make a portal to move her to where she could get help. Then the words poured out of his mouth, almost like it was his way of dealing with the stress he was experiencing. “Is something wrong with the child? Are you feeling unwell? I will take care of it so do not get emotional.” It would only make matters worse and aggravate whatever had happened. He had told her to not strain herself. He had told her……
In a what seemed like a whirlwind of black, William was standing at Grell’s side at lightning speed. The redhead hadn’t even had time to calm herself, but it was nothing compared to the expression that her husband wore. That was enough to snap her out of her own thoughts for a moment. She’d never witnessed him with an expression such as this before… such panic and fear on a man that everyone considered practically fearless. Even when he had saved Grell from certain death against Sebastian, his facial expression had not changed. But now…
“I- I’m fine dear.” Grell said softly, turning her head up to look at the dark haired reaper. “It was just this awful~ nightmare!” She whined, nuzzling against his hand as she continued to hold her stomach protectively. “I was in this room… and I didn’t know where you were! And our baby… our b-baby-” While trying to explain, the redheads eyes began tearing up. Even though it had only been a nightmare, just the thought of losing their precious little Rose… it was enough to make her feel dead inside. Trying to keep herself calm, she nuzzled even further into William, attempting to stifle her tears. “Don’t ever let anything happen to her!” She pleaded with her husband, now clutching onto the edge of his jacket with one hand as the other held her bump.
