Do you know if there`s any reason why poe has a pet raccon in bsd? Also, why is everyone thirsty for dazai?

In the 2012 film The Raven there was a raccoon included named Carl. The real Edgar Allan Poe never had a pet raccoon, but in The Raven they had the raccoon and had literary significance behind it. But the literary significance wasn’t from Poe, but from Karl Marx! The year before Poe died, 1848, The Communist Manifesto was published. There is a blog here that goes into more detail about how the film uses ideas from Karl Marx if you are interested. Overall, The Raven was not considered a successful movie and there is was a lot of criticisms with very little praise. Actually, the only thing fans did mostly agree on was that they liked the raccoon. I am assuming that either Harukawa35, Asagiri Kafka, or both had seen the movie and that is where the inspiration for BSD Karl came from.

And about Dazai…. he’s an insanely popular author? He still has a cult following in Japan with tons of readers devouring his complete works. So because the character is based on such a brilliant and loved author I’m sure that has a lot to do with why he’s so insanely popular in BSD as well. I know I really fell in love with Dazai after reading No Longer Human. Maybe this quote from No Longer Human can explain it better:

“ Most women have only to lay eyes on you to want to be doing something for you so badly they can’t stand it … You’re always so timid and yet you’re funny … Sometimes you get terribly lonesome and depressed, but that only makes a woman’s heart itch all the more for you.”
