"I need how many gigs?"
A groan of despair leaves your lips as you run a hand down your face. The light from your desktop monitor illuminates you in your dimly lit bedroom, the evening quiet and calm.
Recently, you've been suffering from a terrible case of boredom from your favorite gacha game, Genshin Impact. Though, favorite might not be the right word. Comforting is more apt a description. You've been a player since the game's initial release and after playing the game for so many years, you had begun to crave more. The only thing that really kept you coming back was your favorite character, Wanderer.
Oh, the countless hours spent grinding and building him until he was C6ed and fully kitted out was enough to bring you to tears. You had remembered the day he was announced to be playable like it was yesterday, your squeals of delight nearly destroying the ear drums of your friends. It was a day you remembered fondly, but alas, sometimes things just grew old and it was time to move on.
"Do I really have to delete Genshin to fit this? Why is it so big?" you sigh, teeth worrying at your bottom lip as your eyes flit between the file sizes on screen.
You were in the process of trying to install a hot new gacha game, but your PC lacked the space to fit it. Most of the other games you had installed were games you could play with you friends so those were a no go. You didn't even realize how much space Genshin was taking up until now.
With another deep sigh, you boot up the game, as if hoping to talk yourself out of doing something as drastic as uninstalling. You get through the log-in screen and get to where you last left off in the world.
Wanderer's back faces you as he sits outside a cafe in Sumeru City. The sun was getting low in the sky and lamps were slowly being lit in preparation for the evening. You turn the camera so that you could see the puppet's face, your lips pulling into a content smile as he takes a small sip of tea. He's always so graceful.
"How can I leave you when you're such a cutie pie?"
As you open up the map, you miss the slight pause of Wanderer's hand, his lips quirking into a small smile before he sets his tea down. His gaze shifts upwards for a moment as if scanning your expression before returning to a neutral pose.
Having chosen a route to walk, you have him get out of his chair and begin to walk through the city. It's a simple scenic route that you take whenever you're just wasting time. Wanderer's lithe form glides through crowds of late shoppers and strollers with ease as he exits the cafe area and wanders through the market. Though a bit busy, it's oddly peaceful. Playing as your fave always made you happy, but alas...
"Man, this is really all I do, huh?" you mutter, lips pursing in thought as you kill 10 minutes just walking around leisurely. You pull your hands away from your mouse and keyboard and cross your arms, brows pinching together as you weigh your options once more.
Trying the other game wouldn't hurt, and if it happens to be over-hyped, you could always just delete it and reinstall Genshin anyway. No harm, no foul. It's just a game.
Once again, you miss the way Wanderer seems to observe you in quiet curiosity, indigo eyes peering from beneath his hat. It's almost as if he knows something is bothering you.
"I'll be back if the other game sucks," you mumble to yourself, nodding resolutely as you make your final decision. You would uninstall Genshin, at least temporarily.
It makes you a little sad to know you won't be able to see your favorite little guy for a while, but at least you have plenty of merch around your room to keep you company. With a sigh, you pull off your headset and place it aside.
"See you later, Wanderer."
As you grab your mouse to log out, Wanderer's lips part to speak, but he goes unheard as the game closes.
Hihi!! Idk if your taking requests BUT hear me out on SAGAU(self aware genshin AU is what it stands for i thinkk) with Wanderer/scara when reader is saving up for his rerun and is super excited to get him and farming his artifacts and stuff and he’s just super excited to come home and can’t wait till his rerun comes so reader can get him and he can Hug them and all that fluffy stuff <33 ps can I be 💤 anon?
Wanderer vividly remembers a wide variety of moments with you. From the first time you’d seen him, expressing genuine pure interest in him, something no one had done in a very long time. The time you were practically screaming when he appeared in the Delusion Factory, nearly distracting him from his goal of taking the Gnosis because of how ecstatic you were at seeing someone like him. When you were tearing your hair out and crying at his past. When you were so happy to see him getting along with other people (for some bizarre reason.) Out of all the Gods, he had come to realize the Creator was the most benevolent one, despite being locked behind a screen.
Similarly, he remembers your intense stare at the exact time his banner dropped. You were online without a moment’s delay, at the Sanctuary of Surasthana, and he could hear a strange song playing in the background, which you called his “theme song.” Regardless of your odd rituals, as much as Wanderer tried to deny it, he was looking forward to being on your team. For a while, he had to listen to that damn ginger-haired brat go on and on about how amazing it was to be on your team, and how he always served you well. Despite Wanderer still being conflicted by his feelings, he was sure he wanted that to be him instead.
Wanderer remembers your bated breath, your rapid heartbeat as you spammed the wishing button, skipping through when you saw that it was purple instead of gold. He listened to your small comments about what you got - “Ah, I needed some constellations for them… ugh, not The Bell again… c’mon baby, just come home already!” His ears went a little red at the last one.
And at last, the long-awaited gold star descended from the sky, and Wanderer could feel his palms becoming tingly at the sensation. Finally, he could be on your team. Finally, he could be able to hear your sweet voice all day. Though he loathed running around doing tasks for others, he’d be able to witness your lovely concentrated face for hours.
Until he realized that nothing had happened and that the look on your face was now a mixture of shock and on the verge of breaking down. A red-haired man he didn’t recognize was standing in what have been his place.
Needless to say, Wanderer did not come home, and he had to deal with your tired eyes squinting at the screen in the middle of the night, trying to grind as much as possible. Opening the wishing menu where he resided for a few weeks as you pulled as soon as you got one hundred and sixty Primogems, only to be met with disappointment. If he could, he would have scolded you for your recklessness, for you were still someone that needed to take care of themselves.
Now, it had been almost eight months since Wanderer’s last banner, and despite how praise did not come easily from his mouth, he had to admire your endless dedication to him. Even Nahida would tease him about how much you loved him. Diligently entering the artifact domain every day, ignoring the temptation to pull for others and focusing solely on him. (You had placed the best artifacts and weapon you had on some random person as a placeholder, and oh, how he couldn’t wait to see the expression on their face as they were stripped bare of your hard work and transferred to him instead.) How endearing you looked doing the same routine every day for him, entering the summoning menu to drag the slider to see how many wishes you had for him.
Not to mention how affectionate you were. Even he didn’t understand how, but every time your fingers brushed against the screen, he could feel you stroking his cheek. What would be the wind blowing his hair was actually your fingers caressing it. But those moments would only be temporary, only a few hours after multiple, long months.
Soon, once he was on your team, he’d be able to relish in your touch, your unlimited affection. And of course, he awaits the day you descend to Teyvat rather impatiently.
content:wanderer x gn!reader, fluff-fluffy Valentine's Day gift.
This was made for Valentine's Day.
The cool evening breeze of Sumeru rustled the leaves of the trees while you stood already prepared, waiting at the spot you had agreed upon. To be honest, you had your doubts about whether he would actually show up for something as worldly and—in his eyes—"ridiculous" as Valentine’s Day...
However, just as you were about to lose hope, you felt a familiar gust of wind above you. The Wanderer descended gracefully, landing right in front of you. His hat cast a slight shadow over his face, but it wasn't enough to hide those sharp, piercing eyes.
"You're still here" he said, his voice carrying its usual mocking yet soft undertone. "Did you truly believe I’d come, or were you just waiting out of sheer stubbornness?"
You approached him with a smile. "I knew you’d come."
He let out a light grunt and averted his gaze. "Tch blind faith... But since I’m here, let’s not waste time." He reached into his cloak and handed you a small, carefully wrapped box. The knot on the package was tied a bit clumsily—proof that he had struggled with it himself.
"What is this?" you asked surprised.
"Don't ask, just open it," he snapped back, though you could see the tips of his ears turning slightly red. "It’s not some piece of junk I found on the road. It's just a little something for that endless obsession of yours with 'collecting meaningful memories."
When you opened the box, you found a small pendant carved from Anemo Crystals, with your name engraved upon it. When held up to the light, it shimmered as if a tiny storm were trapped inside.
"Wanderer... this is wonderful."
He stepped closer to help you put on the necklace. Though his fingers were ice-cold against your neck, his touch was incredibly gentle. "Don't overstate it," he whispered near your ear. "It’s just so the wind can always find you. If you ever get into trouble and I’m not around, this will remind you whose protection you are under."
As he pulled back, one of those rare, faint smiles played on his lips. "Happy Valentine’s Day, you foolish human. But don't go making a habit of this, understood?"
All that remains is the laughter and giggles of the two of you.
