I know this is a very silly fangirl account, but I think every once in awhile it's good to post something real

I have so much to say on this topic, so read under the cut for why I made this in the first place + my story as a queer person and my experience with homophobia.

This edit was inspired by the fact that I watched Heated Rivalry for the first time awhile ago even though I assumed I would hate it, Scott coming out publicly with I'll Believe in Anything playing genuinely made me cry, it was such a beautiful, emotional moment that made me glad I gave Heated Rivalry a chance in the first place. True, good queer representation in media will always be important. Queerbait has never and will never be ok, which is why I didn't include any of those ships (like Byler or Wenclair). We need real representation, I don't want to spend my whole life living with half the “queer characters” just being headcanons. This is important because we're real people and we shouldn't have to “normalize” our lives, they should be normal in the first place.

There are queer people everywhere, and all of these people deserve to have representation in media, ESPECIALLY media that isn't specifically about being queer. We deserve to get to see ourselves in big tv shows and movies just as much as straight people do.

I first realized I was queer at 12, I had a crush on a friend of mine at the time, he was a girl at the time but later came out as trans, he was one of my closest friends and I'll forever wish we didn't drift apart like we did. We were friends from when I was 10-12. I miss him more then anything in the world.

When I was nearly 14 I came out to my parents as bi. When I was 13 I started to realize I wasn't a girl, I was so confused at the time and really tried to hang onto any femininity I had but all of it caused me so much gender dysphoria. I'm 15 now and things have definitely improved since. I'm sad to say that I'm still hiding being trans from 99% of the people in my life though. Most of the people I know and so accepting and I will forever be grateful for that but I've still spent so long feeling guilty for not being who everyone knows me as or wants me to be. In the beginning I was scared of being wrong about it and having to tell people what I am again and again, now I'm scared of the change that comes with coming out. I wish I was brave enough to do it but it's just too scary right now.

though I haven't experienced much outward homophobia in my lifetime I did have a best friend that ghosted me after 10 years of friendship and we suspect it was in part due to homophobia. Finding out that the girl I came out to first 3 separate times (bi, trans, and ace) probably hates me for things I can't control hurt more then anything else ever has. She used to be one of the most important people in my life and I trusted her with everything. She watched me discover myself in real time so many times.

At one point she said that she was bi but later when back on it, almost refusing to admit she once found girls attractive, I don't want to say that I doubt she's actually straight but I'm so sorry for her if she really is queer and had her family's/communities opinions and/or internalized homophobia keep her from being herself. I truly hope she finds the grace to be welcoming and accepting again, for her own and the queer people around hers sake.

I've cried multiple times writing this out and making this edit. this feels really scary to put out into the world even though this is an anonymous account but I think I need to be braver. I hope to be able to share more of my story eventually if anyone cares enough to listen. I hope you have a wonderful day, and always remember that you deserve sunshine <3
