“what? no!” william shook his head again and again, his movements somewhat slowed down by the alcohol in his system. “i’ve had precisely enough. —maybe, maybe i could even use another one.” he didn’t know the guy by his side, but will knew the stranger might have a point. maybe he did have just a little too much, but he was bored, and it wasn’t as if it was an honestly terrible idea. “come on you are gonna tell me, you’ve never watched a teenage movie, and said, i really wanna do that. besides, your ex, whoever they were, totally deserve it. how the hell would they just abandon you? i mean, come on.”

“We could find out.” He tried, as he saw her leaving the room, his voice raising to make sure she could hear him despite the distance. “I mean, this town isn’t that small, there must be a private investigator somewhere out there. We could find out what happened to him. Maybe we would find out he is secret spy, and that is why he is nowhere to be seen. Imagine that.” When Paige came back with his glass of water, William just nodded, staring at it blankly. He was tired. He had slept until 10am that morning but he was honestly, just tired. “What are you even talking about? I’m fine, I’m great.” He looked up at her, smiling. Though, the smile didn’t quite reach his eyes. "I’m like, a superhero. Captain super great. I’m great even I’m clearly not great at all.”

eyes widen with surprise, mouth floundering guiltily as jaime tried to come up with an appropriate response. “fuck,” she mouthed uselessly, feeling terrible. of course, she hadn’t known – she couldn’t have – but still, she felt awful for having been so tactless. “i’m so sorry – i didn’t –” she began, biting down on her lip before she could say anything else stupid. going gratefully with the change of subject, not convinced that it was her place to pursue the matter further. “we could egg my old neighbour? he used to open my mail and walk around his windows naked.”
he could see, the small struggle for words, her lack of ability to deal with the situation. it was fine. he told himself it was fine, and he wouldn’t let any other feeling tell him otherwise. it was just words, he could say it out loud, he could talk about it. “hey, it’s fine, don’t worry, you couldn’t have known. i brought up the exes thing.” he nodded his head at her words. excited. it was easy to steer away from the subject, easy to get the smile to seem honest on his features if he was talking about anything else. william fixed himself in his seat, as if to lean in closer. “i like that. the creep always deserves it. —since we are going for social justice we could also go ahead and egg the car of the asshole who was racing down the street the other day. what do you say?”

“you’re foced to-” the woman didn’t finish, considering the other was suddenly sitting down on the ground beside her. truthfully, she was about to ask him why’d he done that, but he seemed to read her mind and explain himself before she could’ve even mastered a single sentence, leaving her not only surprised but amused. “You might be right. God knows nothing interesting happens in this town anyway, so maybe we’ll even make it to the cover.” she joked, a small chuckle leaving her lips. after hearing his idea on the matter, her brows furrowed together in a rather mischievous manner, her lips puckering up slightly in thought. “I’m leaning towards the break-in myself, I haven’t done it in a while.” she replied, nodding slightly. “- but you gotta’ let me be George Clooney in this operation otherwise it won’t work.”
“I am absolutely fucking sure that if we pretend to start speaking some weird ass language that nobody but us can understand, we get front page.” His eyebrows shot up, excited all of sudden. “—Oh. Maybe even someone telling history channel to come here to talk about alien brain washing people. Now that would be a day.” William let out a small laugh, nodding at her words. “Well, hey, I mean, I am down for being Brad Pitt. If being pretty and eating while other people do the work isn’t the essence of who I am, I don’t know what it.” He chuckled. “But does that mean as soon as we get in you’ll forget about the entire operation because of some cute girl? Because let me tell you, I’m not sure, if my heart can recover from that sort of betrayal.”

jaime’s eyebrows rose dramatically, and she laughed, unsure if william was joking or not. “thanks for the…pep talk, but i’m not sure my ex is worth all of that trouble. i haven’t spoken to her in years.” which was true. and although the relationship had ended on a terrible note, and jaime was sure that if they were to run into each other again it would be a horrible experience, she could safely say that she was past over it. a sudden thought came to her mind – grasping at straws to keep william occupied. “what about your ex? they can’t be much better than mine.”
“ooh. bad news. she died.” he let out a low chuckle. though, this time, the smile on his face didn’t quite reach his eyes. william looked around for a quick second, searching the room for another drink, despite the light-heartiness he tried to attach to his words. — he could say it. it had happened more than a year ago. he could manage to get the words out. it wasn’t the end of the world. he just needed to move away from the subject. “i do have exes from college, though. but that would take, like, some tracking time. —or, or, we could egg my own house. —” he smiled, excited for a second, just to shake his head slightly right after. “wait, no, that’s all the way in new york. —pft, i don’t know.” he ran a hand through the back of his head. “do you have maybe a mortal enemy? or someone who was rude to you once?”

“hey, i have an idea.” he smiled. a hazy glow of tired happiness set around him. william’s words had no specific aim. he was talking to whoever was close, whoever would listen. “let’s egg your ex’s house.” if you were paying enough attention, you would hear by the way his tone dragged the word let’s a little more than his accent would allow that william was drunk. maybe not drunk yet, not specifically, but past dizzy, certainly, threading dangerously close to drunk. “they fucking suck. they don’t deserve you. let’s do it. it’ll be awesome.” if you were paying enough attention, though, you would see by the way his fingers tapped repeatedly against the bar that the suggestion had nothing to do with the ex in question, but much more to do with william slowly growing restlessness.

it was always weird for mickey to see his own face when he was record shopping. he really hated that he always got put by arcade fire. “god i looked so bad with that haircut how on earth did i let them put that on the cover…” he murmured mostly to himself as he looked over the back of it, shaking his head as he felt the nostalgia set in, not realizing there was someone standing right besides him.
william had no record player, and no real love for music, big enough that would allow him to buy printed version or the same shit he could download on his ipod, and yet, here he was. looking through the records as he over-heard the other man speaking to himself. “oh, dude. i don’t know, i would say it looks like one of the jonas brothers.” his eyes turned back and forth between the record in question and the person by his side. a smile finding its way to his expression. “—oh, dude. look at you. on the cover of the thing. are you famous? are you one of the jonas brothers?”

I was an ass, my bad. Let me try again, because now I got the perfect lock down on this. —How about ice cream while destroying stuff. The best of both worlds. she noticed him laughing and she would’ve been totally offended if she wasn’t completely embarrassed. it had been a while since amira had embarrassed herself and she honestly thought her days of tripping over nothing in front of attractive people were over. clearly, she was wrong. “no, no, don’t worry about it… just don’t laugh at me!” she teased, laughing a little as she said it. “no, really, it’s fine. i get it. if i saw someone trip over nothing, i would’ve probably laughed, too.”
“i don’t know if it helps in any way, shape or form but i laugh at everything, all the time. i’m basically a ten year old.” the smile lingered on his lips, as he looked at her. another chuckle threatening to come out. “—come on, it was a perfectly nice coffee and brownie. it was my fault. i have a very distracting face, it’s not every day you see someone that ugly. besides, you’d be doing me a favor, i have too much money, i need to find ways to spend it.”
