Help Me Build a new computer

Hello, my Kittens. Now that my car is fixed, thanks to @mordenheim, @zira (Twice!) and @inhumaninterest, I know have another problem.

My computer's motherboard, CPU and Ram are old and slowing down, and need to be replaced. Eventually.

The least expensive combo I can come up with is $700 for all three parts.

So, as always, my commissions are open, and I need help, any help.

Prices are still the same.

A shaky hand beat the hailing drum of the Carsis Rising, “We surrender! We can’t get a white flag up!”

“Surrender accepted! Furl all sail. Wait for boarders until we have done with the rest of the Secret Fleet!”

Runners brought welcome news to the Captain and the rest of the catapult crew. The lance from the Carsis Rising had hit well above the water line and a few compartment bulkheads had been broken. Damage Control already had the hull tight. There were three casualties, no fatalities. No severe damage.

While the Grandalor had been fighting her engagement, the rest of the Secret Fleet began to raise sail in an effort to get away. They saw the ease with which the Crossover and Carsis Rising were dispatched.

Mikhala felt her throat, where the cord had bit in and husked, “What of his rights? He needs a trial. He needs the chance to rebut the charges. Don’t do to him what the Naral fleet did to you.”

“<Never fear it, Mikhala, the law’ll be kept.>” said Captain Tanlin calmly.

Doctor Corin interrupted, “I have the spear pried out of the door, Captain. We need to get this man to sickbay so that I can operate on him.” He turned to Kenner and added, “This was an excellent thrust. He has a good chance of a full recovery, if he lives beyond the next few days.”

Kenner handed off the spear to Erin and bound Carlin’s hands again with the same cord that had brought so much trouble. Only then did he pull the tapered pin that held the spear head to the shaft. Working carefully, he loosened the spear head socket and separated the shaft from it.

As he handed the spear shaft back to Erin, Kenner commented, “Pity we can’t leave this point in place. It’s the first thing that’s actually shut up this scavenging bottom crawler.”

As he led Carlin away toward the sickbay, Erin returned, “You know why we can’t leave it in there. We need that spear point for fishing!”

Kurin looked over at Mikhala and thought of how her life had almost been wasted. Somberly, she put the question to Mikhala. “What do you think? Shall we divert our trade loop and attack the Secret Fleet and the Konning Captain? The tops’l gang are your friends. How many more do you want to see loose their grips in storms?”

To everyone’s amazment, Mikhala returned analysis and a question of her own. “They’ve been building catapults for near enough a Gathering. I saw the start of it. Have you enough strength to stand against the dozen of them? If you can, yes. If not, find another way.”

Kurin’s eyes slitted in thought. With carefully controlled outrage she asked, “Why would he do it at all? Didn’t he know that I was working on an important project?” She laid the folder aside, both angry and sad at the same time. Taking a deep breath, she sighed, “Six Wohans of work wasted. Half a Gathering gone. I’ll have to start over, now.”

Emboldened by Arnat’s example, another of the apprentices explained, “Carlin was mad at you for blaming him when he mixed the solvent wrong and it ruined that etch tank.”

Kurin nodded slowly, understanding, “He cost me seven Skins in damage and spoiled ten kits besides. He was supposed to weigh those ingredients, not eyeball them.”

Mikhala said wryly, “Where he’s from, officer’s brats are never blamed for anything, and he’s the son of a Captain.”

Kurin uncoiled, gathering the tests and said, “Mikhala, come with me. We need to see the Captain, now. Barad, too. They will have questions for you. I may be in shallower, more dangerous water than I know. They understand things like this.”

Kurin’s shop was filled with five busy apprentices. One was using screen printing equipment to make exact copies of designs on sheets of thin, glue stiffened Strong Skin or layered and glued parchments. Others were taking the printed sheets and putting them into shallow vats of a solvent that activated the thick paste with which the sheets had been printed. The activated paste ate the sheets away exactly where the lines were.

Finished parts were fished out with tongs and rinsed with seawater to stop the solvent. Mikhala was carefully drying and counting the parts. As soon as they were ready she packaged them in envelopes that had pictures of the model the kit inside would make. The current model was a Barant fleet unequal hulled Catamaran ship. It took three envelopes to hold all of the parts and supplies.

“Where’s High Cloud?” Mikhala asked curiously, not looking up from her work. “I haven’t seen him for days.”

Kurin went to a dead calm. Those who knew her understood that it was a danger sign and hoped that the contained anger was not directed at them. She asked Mikhala softly, “Do you know that I am an advocate before the courts of the Naral fleet?”

Offhandedly, Mikhala answered, “Everyone’s heard the tale of you defending the Grandalor.” She paused and did a double take. “Are you saying that I need an advocate?”

Kurin soberly nodded and said, “The simple fact that you can ask that question after all that has happened to you shows how much you need one!”

“What do you mean? I was heard by the Captains and the Pursers of both Crossover and Sea Strider. They told me that I didn’t need an advocate. The Captain’s Council heard my case. What more could be done?”

The bird on Kurin’s shoulder was now getting his complex wings folded and settled. He ran the flat side of his razor sharp beak along Kurin’s jaw in greeting. As he gave a final small flutter to his wings, Kurin reached up and fluffed the feathers of his crest and scritched the back of his head.

Formalities now apparently over, the big hawk stretched his neck out and turned his head to stare straight into Kurin’s eyes and opened his beak.

“Hello to you, too, Mr Hungry,” said Kurin affectionately. Pulling a dried skelt filet from her wide sash belt pouch, Kurin broke it into several pieces. These, she fed to the big bird, one at a time.

Mikhala, seeing the ease with which the bird’s beak sheared the dried fish, sensibly kept her distance. Nervously, she asked, “Isn’t he dangerous?”

“I give Lady Tanlin the credit for this; she realized the terrible emptiness in Kurin. I simply tried to give her the emotional support that she needed so that she could defend us before the court, at first. The Lady saw that Kurin needed more than simple support and gave it freely. We certainly did not expect her to adopt onto our vessel. She was from the Longin and justifiably proud of it.

“The Lady and I have continued to fill in for her as parents as best as we can. She may be a legal adult but emotionally she is still young, and wise enough to know it. We do our best. She lives with us in our cabin when she is on the Grandalor.”

The girl returned with both the tallow slate and a piece of parchment. Tanlin absently paid the girl and scanned the parchment. She extended her hand with a smile and said, “<Welcome to the Grandalor, Mikhala! Kurin’s approved ye!>”

Mikhala Palin Crossover clutched the gray-green, laminated Strong Skin railing of the Grandalor and watched bitterly as the Naral fleet scattered away from the Spring Gathering. She was beyond tears, nearly beyond rage at her betrayal. The Sails of the Crossover, the ship of her birth, the ship of her name, the ship that had cast her off, were nearly down on the horizon.

Bride’s Watch they called it, watching from your new home as your old ship passed out of sight. At the Weddings, at the close of the Gathering, she had signed the Articles and joined not only Kenner Morgan Grandalor but the crew of that infamous vessel, the Grandalor. She still had reservations about doing that.

No matter what the courts of the fleet said, the Grandalor was a ship with a bad name. Still, a ship with a bad name was better than the long, final swim to Dark Iren’s Halls beneath the Dragon Sea.

AHRT RESTAURANT/COMMUNITY CENTER

I stood across the street from the building. It was mine now. At least the Bank of Hypercity said so. After all the usual garbage paperwork and assorted fees, not to mention the payment of a mountain of money, they had given me the deed. Most unhappy to do so too. Seems that they prefer to give you a mortgage which ties you to a payment schedule for 20 to 30 years and drops anywhere from double to triple the cost of the property into their pockets as interest. The cash sale did not make them happy. Did make me happy though. I mean saving a small mountain of my money was indeed happy making.

The building itself was not spectacular but it was BIG. An old but sound warehouse occupying most of a whole industrial area block, two stories high and with a full basement as well. I owned the whole block and the parking area was presently full of contractors trucks and vans. The remodeling needed to make the particular sort of restaurant and community center that I wanted was well underway.

There were some hitches, there always are. This one was the contractor doing my several kitchens. “Sir, someone has bungled this efficiency kitchen. I mean you are supposed to do almost anything in only a few steps. These appliances are like fifteen feet apart!”

I nodded agreeably, “That's right. For the cooks using that area, that IS an efficiency kitchen. That is also why that barbecue and roasting area has no gas line hookup, just reflectors. Dragons are a tiny bit different from you and I.”

“Dragons!” he squawked. “What kind of restaurant is this?”

I shrugged, “I have noticed a whole un or underserved population. The HRT community has a huge variety of people becoming non human beings. Most stop at what they call the crossroads and remain partly human. It just depends on what makes them happy.

“However, that is who I am setting this place up for.”

I went inside to see how the poor contractor was dealing with the booth, table seating, perches and other specialized accomodations. Actually, for a wonder, rather than questioning, he was directing his crew and following my plans. He just shook his head at some of them but figured that the nutcase with the money knew what he wanted, however bizarre.

I went up to my office with its one way glass windows looking out over the dining area. Things were shaping up nicely. I just needed to recruit some staff. I already had some chosen but I needed a good many more yet, along with getting advertising out to the Therian community at large. Customers are rumored to be important for restaurants!
