Brothers

His brothers are idiots.

He's had his fair share of moments, too, but honestly. All they did was fight, which he supposed was normal in most families, but what he wanted more than anything was for the conflict to end. They were angels, not humans, you think they could be a little more mature. "Daddy loved me best" or "free will versus obey papa" or "I'm right you're wrong."

(He maybe sort of loved them a lot, though, so he could put up with it.)

Balthazar will very adamantly stand by the idea that he came up with the idea.

Wings? Transportation. A system of ranking depending on how many. Vanity. 

But nobody thought of hugs. Why have feathery soft extensions of oneself if you aren't going to utilize it properly? His first wing hug was with Castiel, of course. A sweep of wings, comfort among their battles. 

He especially loves giving wing hugs to Gabriel, but he likes receiving them from Gabriel even more. Six wings, six times more fun.

Cas, Dean, Sam

Balthazar has always loved Cas. Still does. Always will.

At first, he simply couldn't fathom why the Winchester brothers were so endearing. Balthazar's first meeting with them took place trapped in a circle of holy fire; the brothers didn't bat an eyelash, just assumed he wasn't on their side. From thereon out, they treated Balthazar terribly. Not that he expected anything less from a couple of insignificant humans.

But they weren't insignificant. Not to the apocalypse and certainly not to Castiel.

Balthazar will always say that he understands, that he knows why Castiel will always choose the Winchesters over his own family, but in all honesty? He doesn't understand. The Winchester motto is "family first," so why doesn't Cas adapt that since he adores them so much?

He's a little biter, but not distractedly so. Whether he's standing up straight with a smile on his face or a knife in his back, Castiel will always have him.
