If you're kind enough - if you spare your enemies like Ralsei asks, filling Castle Town with life and love - you won't just save his life.
You'll help him to become a Lightner.
Deltarune isn't shy about its Pinocchio parallels. Or its Velveteen Rabbit parallels. The themes of toys, puppets, whathaveyou, transcending their limitations and becoming people? They are literally everywhere.
Ralsei's entire arc is about whether or not he's a real person - whether he deserves to live, to be treated as an equal to his friends. He's convinced that his whole purpose is to serve them - to put Lightners first, no matter what they need, and never mind his own interests. But that's not what he wants. He wants to go to the festival, join them at school, and all of those things.
He just doesn't feel like he deserves it.
But the world of Deltarune adapts to your actions. When you are kind to others, they are kind to you - and to each other. If someone is trapped, and you help them get free, they'll support your freedom in turn - even if it's as simple as carrying you upstairs because you were kicked out of your body and got stuck in their basement. Kindness lets you open cages, free puppets from their strings, and rewrite prophecies - sometimes, enough to change the course of a person's entire future.
But is it enough to turn a Darkner into a Lightner?
The answer to that is obvious: "Yes, if Toby Fox wants it to." And based the themes woven throughout the game, especially the ones surrounding Ralsei and his personal development, it really seems like things are headed that way. After all, the very first chapter showed him evolving from an indistinct, cloaked blob, to a vague shadowed figure, to the white-furred bunnygoat that we all know and love. And that happened because Susie pushed him out of his comfort zone, and into the waiting arms of new friendships.
I honestly can't imagine a better ending for Ralsei, either. He's a wonderful prince for Castle Town, but it doesn't need one THAT badly - after all, it has a king, and a queen, and even a Lancer. Ralsei doesn't even seem that interested in being a prince - he just wants to be a kid and have a nice time with his friends. That's not to say that he has to completely leave Castle Town behind - I think its doors will always be welcome to all the main characters - but it would be wonderful if he got to experience the life of a Lightner, too.
