Ralsei wd treat him so gently. Ofc he'd be happy to be there
hey I just wanted to say that I decided on a whim to watch The King of Comedy this evening based on your Tenna art, and I thoroughly enjoyed it :) Sarah Bernhard was fantastic -- I looked more into her and it turns out she plays Nurse Cecily in Severance?? crazy. anyway she did great and the movie was a very good watch overall. interesting commentary on parasociality and the (potentially misguided) power of well and truly putting your mind to a certain belief. thanks for putting it on my radar :^) who knows I might get around to After Hours after this!
It makes me so happy to hear my very self indulgent drawing could introduce you to that movie! I find it to be a bit of an underrated gem. As you said it IS an interesting and very contemporary commentary on parasociality and I find Rupert to be quite the tragic figure in many ways, trapped as he is in his own delusional bubble, with no intention of ever getting out of it. It might be a sad parallel to draw with Tenna's own character, but the good news about the tv man is that he's got empathy on his side (maybe even too much of it for his own sake).
Hope you enjoy After Hours when you get to it! I only first watched it in fairly recent times myself and I keep jokingly referring to it as Spamton's life story in a nutshell. I'm also barely exaggerating when I say it might be the most effectively edited movie I've ever seen. Thelma Schoonmaker is just that good.
