I'm still basically tumblr retired but this is me coming back on for a moment to say
play Look Outside, it's really good
So anyways as you can see they will literally report you for anything and everything and nothing at all if you're transfem and tumblr staff will gleefully hit the "nuke tranny off the face of the earth" button without a second thought and you will not get an appeal. Meanwhile if you are harassing transfems you can make death threats and spread libel with impunity with zero consequences
A note from the Tumblr team
A few weeks ago, a small but higher-than-normal number of accounts were mistakenly suspended. The suspensions were quickly reversed, but our response wasn't good enough, and we want to say more.
We're sorry it took us this long to address this. Trust and safety issues are difficult to discuss publicly, and we canāt share details about specific individuals or how our systems work without exposing Tumblr to bad actors. But caution led us to say too little, too late.
Weāve heard from members of the trans community on Tumblr that they were disproportionately impacted, and that deserves a direct response. According to 3rd party researchers, Tumblrās userbase has the highest proportion of LGBTQIA+ folks on social media, so it makes sense that when something goes wrong, those communities might feel that disproportionate impact.
One thing we want to emphasize is that we do not moderate people's identities. We moderate behavior. We know that identity shows up across a Tumblr profile in many ways, from followed topics to the flags people put in their bios, and more. However, these signals play no role in how our moderation systems make decisions. We monitor those systems for evidence of bias and take corrective action when we find it.
We understand that the communications sent to affected users, and our broader silence to the community, didn't meet the standard people expect from us. That feedback is fair, and we apologize. We've updated the messaging sent to people impacted by these incidents. We are also overhauling our process with a goal of responding to mistaken suspension appeals within 24 hours, and have instituted an ongoing internal review of how suspensions and appeals are handled.
Going forward, we're committed to finding a better balance: being more transparent with our community about issues that matter, even when we can't share everything.
Tumblr belongs to everyone. We take that seriously, and we intend to earn back your trust. We are not afraid to have tough discussions with you or make updates based on your feedback, though on occasion, it might take some time.
To the people whose accounts were affected, and to the members of our trans community who felt targeted: we are truly sorry.
Tumblr Staff
this is meaningless corporate boilerplate. this issue has existed for years and in that time it has been plain to see for everyone that @staff both condones and actively facilitates the hostile & discriminatory atmosphere toward transfem users on this site. you have openly terminated users who've brought attention to this in the past. you have lied about this before. you are lying now.
@humans you are publishing this statement now because the ban wave to which your post refers was finally so blatant that it was noticed by the press, and because posts have been circulating calling for legal action and for official complaints of discrimination. nobody is fooled that you are addressing this for any other reason, and nobody is satisfied with your mealy-mouthed consultant-approved non-apology drivel. this post is a load of horse shit and everybody knows it. fuck you all.

I think I'm going to delete the tumblr app and try to stay off the site for a while
It mostly just makes me miserable lately. Not going to delete probably but hopefully on a lot less for a while.
whole damn userbase really banded together and said we can tolerate you running off all the sex workers and the black people and the trannies but we are NOT gonna sit by and let you take away a SINGLE note from our destiel mpreg slash fics POTTER HEADS GRAB YOUR WANDS!
This type of shit has to stop now
Itās hard for me to articulate why exactly things like āfruitiger aeroā piss me off so bad but I think the modern hyperfocus on corporate graphic and industrial design is just unspeakably lame. Like I know the people who coined all those terms are on here but the difference between them and people like āfruitiger Dillonā up there are that the folks that coined these terms are all actual designers that make their own work and have their own influences that arenāt just all corporate.
The fascination with these design trends really just seems to be either cataloging everything and arguing about what is what (see: the āaesthetics wikiā lmao) or just like copying all this shit and making it worse. I saw some aero thing on IG recently where the top comment was like āomg this is so windows vista coreā despite everyone thinking windows vista was ugly and bad back in 2007!
Semi related but it reminds me a lot of people who go on YouTube and try to make like āssx tricky ps1 y2k drum and bassā music that also just ends up being sooo boring. The people that made music for those games were at the club getting influenced not watching algorithmically recommended videos. Idk where Iām going with this anymore I just think people need to develop actual taste
So what's up with that stupid new change
. So they Did just create a harassment machine where you can't do anything if people are making callout hit posts then?
If it's going to be that bad that's genuinely a very bad idea.
This is a tool that is going to make harassment much worse by virtue of not knowing when you should be careful, when terfs are gathering. Blocking terfs that reblog my posts is a tool i use often, and without the ability to do that, this is genuinely dangerous.
We're going down
I'm yelling tumblr
You better post, you better trans
They'll make a site you don't remember
I'll be the blog you can't forget
I can't go to Twitter or Bluesky, both are far too simplistic in the posting style
Reddit has a horrid culture
Instagram is for friends irl, not posting
Like genuinely my only option may be neocities if we keep on this path
please don't make me use bluesky.
Making reblog chains their own post is a fucking insane idea what is staff smoking. Removing core Tumblr features.
This is also going to make it harder to track where, how, and from whom, you are receiving harassment.
Tumblr genuinely is obsessed with driving away their userbase to try and attract twitterites
if they go through with this--and i can't remember a single time tumblr dot com course corrected in recent memory--i will genuinely be really really sad. one of my absolute favorite parts of this site was being able to look at the notes of a post and see the conversations it had sparked, see if someone had already raised a point i was planning to raise, see if the op had responded to a response i found interesting. this will massively hinder this from happening, while also making it much harder to use the notes of posts as blocklists (a basic proactive safety precaution to be a trans woman with any kind of following on here) and much easier to direct harassment at whomever one pleases
@tumblr literally saying "we're gonna make reblog chains work how they did on cohost!" like are you kidding me. we all saw how that worked out for cohost right
