So that being said, is there a lore reason that the people of Krypton named the Rock That Hurts Them Kryptonite?

Like I can’t imagine going to another planet and being like “I’m an Earthling from Planet Earth, this is my dog Eartho, and this is the most deadly material known to man it’s called Earthite.” Did everything on their planet start with “Krypt” or is it just a major coincidence?

I thought that kryptonite was corrupted bits of Krypton (at least in one continuity)?

Thundercats is just as bad, plus the Bat- syndrome (Batman adds bat- to everything). Thundrillium powers all their stuff and Thundrainium weakens them. Unless it's the evil ex-Thundercat ghost Grune who has a Thundrainium weapon.

California is installing zero-emission electric appliances and energy-saving upgrades at no cost to low-income households across the state u

Under the Equitable Building Decarbonization Program, California is providing no-cost, zero-emissions appliances like induction stoves and heat pumps to low-income households. The program covers single family, multifamily, and mobile homes and also include other efficiency upgrades like smart thermostats, LED lighting, and better duct sealing and insulation.

Worth noting, is that these appliances improve not only energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions, but are also cheaper to operate and significantly improve indoor air quality.

I feel like you'd also be interested in my isekai story, which is set on Thundera before the Sword of Omens. A warrior maiden girl falls into a holy pool and ends up on Thundera right when a son of a local king gets exiled to the wildcat jungles chaperoned by the son of the local chief....

I have, like, so many sketches and culture notes.

My idea is that it's a show watched on New Thundera, inspired by stories they heard about the Treetop Kingdom. It's... not necessarily accurate either to them or to Thunderian history.

Snarf Theory/Headcanon

I've been pondering what Snarfs are and why at least some of them decide to do a lot of acts of service and protecting looking out for children, even when they're not always treated well.

I've also been thinking about benevolent spirits that do chores for offerings like Brownies (Gaelic) and Domovoi (Slavic), and protector spirits of children like Kappa (Japanese).

With Snarfs' seeming preference for the domestic and affinity for children, incapability of evil, ability to talk to animals etc. I wonder if Snarfs are essentially the equivalent of those types of beings on Thundera?

My headcanon is that they're a related species to Thunderians, like chimps or orangutans are to us. I feel like they're also very hobbit-like - small, homey, focused on family and friends, love fun and good food

Multiple! And writing systems!

My most developed is for the wildcat tribe that Kit and Kat belong to, as well as my OC Felino. It's called Nyjichun.

The language of the capitol is Ylialis. It's got limited sounds which makes transliterating into it fun (Thunder becomes lunder, for example).

Related to it is Maanxmusht, which is extinct, and also gave a bunch of words to Nyjichun.

And there's some more that are just sketched out.

I have a neocities site for them, but things are extremely wip and incomplete.

One thing I’m still pissed at Bernie Sanders about is turning a generation against the Democratic Party. Every piece of social progress in the last 80 years, from Social Security to Medicaid to Medicare to integration to the Civil Rights Act to Title IX to Roe v. Wade to labor rights to environmental protections to public health protections to Obamacare to Obergefell, all of it directly or indirectly powered by the engine of change that is the Democratic Party. And then Sanders comes and says this whole apparatus, which he had no hand in building, is corrupt and needs to be completely replaced. Now we have countless young people who think Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are the same partly because they were told that an engine of change and an anchor of stagnation and oppression are equally bad because they were fed the lie that no one in the Democratic Party does anything to improve their lives.

Nothing makes me more embarrassed about my age or generation than BernieOrBust/StillJill/NeverHillary supporters who are basically doing the GOP’s work for them and refuse to acknowledge it. As much as I hate the ageist bullshit I see Baby Boomers come up with, I can see why they think so many millenials need to get their head out of the clouds or don’t know how the real world works when I see the way people my age talk about politics. Like, I know it’s bullshit and I still don’t blame baby boomers for getting mad that young people think they know everything. Because fun story: my university campus is very liberal and very politically active, and during the last quarter there most students strongly supported Bernie Sanders…except for most of us in or connected to the Political Science Department (so Poli Sci majors, International Relations majors, certain other ‘bureaucratic’ majors, etc.) We also loved Bernie, but we all pretty bluntly said we were voting for Hillary and thought she’d be the best President. Most of us were pretty blunt about how “as much as we love Bernie’s message of change, we think Hillary can actually accomplish more of it in the real world”. We were basing our decision on our studies of politics, of what kinds of change have and have not worked in history and why. This support for Hillary, even with our love of Bernie, came from a place of deep understanding of how politics work, of why certain policies or political goals fail, and what various political leaders’ real powers and challenges are. We were called “over-educated elites” because of this.

It’s worth noting that much of our greatest progressive reforms came from LBJ, very much a political insider, and a guy who was kind of slimy in his personal life. He was not a soaring idealist.

And some of the other progressive greats? JFK, FDR, and Teddy Roosevelt all came from long-established political dynasties

I supported Bernie in 2016 (although I did vote for Hillary in the general, and have voted Democrat every two years since), but in hindsight, I think you’re right, attacking the system is not the best move to get real reform done. H. Clinton probably would have done a good job

FDR–who anyone on this blog for more than five minutes can tell you I love for his social policies–was antisemitic and didn’t challenge racial prejudices that blocked many Black citizens from accessing those wonderful social policies. Teddy Roosevelt was an ardent supporter of, and participant in, American imperialism. LBJ used to talk about his dick to staffers. This is not uncommon, because in spite of the many jokes, politicians are people.

Change does not come from perfect individuals.

Found widely across parts of Asia from India to China to Indonesia, this social canid typically lives in groups of up to 12 individuals. Sometimes it even socializes with other groups of dholes to form “super packs” of more than 30 members! Teamwork enables these hunters to take down prey ten times their size. And unlike many other species of canid, dholes allow their pups to feed first on kills. Their diet includes pigs, deer, and buffalo.
