                    mary  may  was  the  one  that  told  nick  about  staci  being  back ,  released  from  wherever  jacob  had  kept  him  this  whole  time .  he  did  believe  it  the  first  time  he  heard  it ,  and  yet  nick  felt  the  need  to  see  him  with  his  own  eyes  because  in  fact ,  having  staci  rescued  and  jacob  killed  seemed  to  be  the  major  PROGRESS  they  had  needed  this  whole  time .          ❝  oh ,  man .  i  mean ,  sorry  for  starin’ ,  buddy .  but  you  don’t  look  too  good ,  ❞    he  said  as  he  approached  the  other  man  slowly .  he  was  being  very  careful  due  to  the  stories  he  had  heard  about  the  men  and  women  that  suffered  the  eldest  seed’s  brainwashing .          ❝  you  know ,  my  wife’s  got  some  really  good  stuff  to  treat  wounds  and  injuries  and  that  sorta  things .  and  painkillers .  you  need  any  of  that ?  ❞

          ♛ —–   He was surprised by the fact that Nick let him inside his house. Because TRUST ISSUES were fair enough. He wouldn’t have complained about waiting outside. But still, the plane was outside as well. Who knew what Nick really thought.

             When he took a seat on the couch, Ajay looked around for a short moment. It looked quite comfortable. Reminded him of HOME.  ❛ Ah, well. It was more like a… — a MISUNDERSTANDING between me and, uh… ❜  He didn’t want to talk much more about it, simply because he wasn’t sure about HOW MUCH Nick knew. Did he even know that Ajay practically still was one of Jacob’s men? Bringing that up wouldn’t help much, so he refused to keep talking.  Looking to the side, he noticed a small blanket on the couch table ❛ Oh! Congrats to the BABY , by the way. Keeping the business going, huh? ❜ He was feeling awkward. But at least he was trying to make the situation LESS TENSE.

                          nick  sat  down  next  to  ajay  before  he  began  to  carefully  take  care  of  the  wound .  a  trillion  times  at  least  had  he  watched  kim  taking  care  of  such  things  like  wounds  and  minor  injuries    ------    and  most  of  the  times  nick  himself  was  the  patient ,  so  he  practically  had  the  front  row  seat  to  observe  the  procedures  attentively .  a  nearly  automatic  smile  drew  across  nick’s  face  when  ajay  mentioned  the  baby ,  the  strict  expression  got  easily  replaced  within  a  split  second .          ❝  what  can  i  say ,  man ?  she’s  just  GORGEOUS .  i  could  spend  the  whole  24  hours  just  lookin’  at  her .  ❞          for  a  moment  he  stopped ,  gaze  wandering  up  the  ceiling .  the  kid’s  room  was  right  above  them .  nick  had  the  image  right  in  front  of  his  eyes ,  kim  holding  the  baby  while  she  sings  her  to  sleep .  a  very  simple  picture  that  was  able  to  turn  him  into  the  HAPPIEST  man  in  the  entire  world .          ❝  kim  and  the  baby  are  the  very  best  things  that  could  have  ever  happened  to  me .  ❞          hard  eyes  flicked  back  to  the  other’s  face .          ❝  and  i’m  willing  to  do  whatever  it  takes  to  protect  them .  my  baby  girl’s  not  gonna  grow  up  in  FEAR ,  nor  will  she  go  to  any  of  those  stupid  eden’s  gate  schools .  but  these  seeds ,  man .  they’re  makin’  it  extremely  hard  for  us ,  you  know .    ------    what  about  your  family ?  ❞

nick  actually  plays  dumb  on  purpose  just  to  make  kim  laugh  because  he  read  somewhere  that  laughing  is  very  good  for  pregnant  women .  i  hope  kim  knows  that  she  has  the  very  best  husband  on  this  entire  planet  uuuugh .

The majority of his morning today was spent watching Nick Rye pace back and forth in front of his hangar, angrily scrubbing at the grime on Carmina’s aerodynamic hide. Alder was leaning back in the fold-up chair he’d commandeered for himself, listening to the radio, listening to his close friend as he paced and seethed to himself.

There were a list of reasons as to why John Seed needed to be DRAGGED out of the picture.

This was just the icing on the cake.

Kim and Nick were good people. People that he’d even go so far as to say were apart of his FAMILY. Well….he technically WAS considering they named him the godfather of lil baby Rye. And he had absolutely no bad thoughts about that. In fact, Alder was pleased that the Rye Family liked him so much.  “Yeah….that’s more than him being RUDE Nick.”

A small grin strikes across Alder’s face.

“Well we got a lot of things that we can do to GET BACK at him, Nick.” Alder hums from his place, raising his feet out of the path of the water the very SECOND the bucket is knocked over. “Still have his YES SIGN up on that mountain.” He helpfully recommends. “Could also….I don’t know…burn his ranch house to the GROUND.”

                        a  wide  grin  drew  from  one  ear  to  the  other  as  he  listened  to  alder’s  suggestions .  this  man  seemed  to  be  one  of  the  best  things  that  had  ever  happened ,  not  only  to  holland  valley ,  but  also  to  him  in  a  way .          ❝  you’re  a  GENIUS ,  man !  ❞           excitedly ,  nick  clenched  both  of  his  fists ,  punched  the  air  like  a  boxer  in  a  winning  fight .          ❝  let’s  tear  down  that  ugly  sign .  it’ll  leave  a  nice  message .  with  love ,  rye  and  deputy  clark .  ❞          not  wasting  any  more  of  their  time ,  nick  jumped  up  into  his  plane ,  a  simple  hand’s  movement  ordered  the  deputy  to  get  in  as  well .          ❝  you  know ,  john’s  definitely  deserving  WORSE  for  saying  the  things  he  said  but  it’ll  do  for  now .  besides ,  if  anyone ‘s  gonna  take  that  moron  down ,  it’s  gonna  be  you ,  alder .  ❞          for  the  very  first  time  within  the  last  few  years ,  OPTIMISM  did  not  feel  like  a  dangerous  thing  to  keep .  in  fact ,  it  felt  quite  liberating  to  finally  be  able  to  speak  it  out  again .  once  nick  put  the  headset  on ,  he  turned  around  to  alder ,  waiting  for  him  to  get  ready  for  take-off .

                      it  took  him  a  while  to  recognize  the  figure  that  set  foot  on  his  property .  from  his  porch ,  nick  stared  into  the  direction  the  evening sun  was  shining  from ,  watching  sharky  approaching  his  home from  afar .  once  he  was  close  enough ,  nick  pointed  with  his  finger  on  the  gun  the  other  man  carried  along ,  shaking  his  head .          ❝  nuh-uh ,  buddy .  you’re  not  comin’  anywhere  near  my  wife  or  the  baby  until  you’ve  learned  to  NOT  turn  everything  into  ashes  with  that  thing .  no  offense ,  man .  just  leave  it  outside ,  will  ya ?  ❞
