sweet-teaness:
“The bickerin’ and yellin’ is normal. Rough and tumble politics’re how it’s always been…you just gotta tune it out. Not with whiskey. Gimme that.”
He swipes the glass off the counter and holds it close to him protectively, other hand in his pocket.
“Don’t watch the news so much. Just cause you’re a state don’t mean you gotta pay attention to every little thing all the time. Why don’t you go up to the mountains for a weekend? Float down the Cahaba? I’ll even take you to one of ‘em cursed college football games if that’ll make you feel better for a few hours.”
★ “What’s the use if it’s only a distraction? I know once I’m finished, I’ll have to face reality again. If I want a short term distraction, all I need to do is sit down with my friend here for a bit.” She gestures to a large and nearly empty bottle of Jack Daniel’s, the cap remaining unskrewed for easier access.
“Temporary happiness is just what it is: Temporary. I want long term quiet, long term peace. I know these wishes are naive, sure, but I can’t help but yearn for it in times like these.”
She glances at the glass that Macen shields and pouts, swiping at it.
“Give that back! Witholdin’ that cup ain’t gonna help anyone.”
