(bolts upright in bed)
Ed’s sudden growth spurt at the end was a sign that his connection to Al’s body was failing and Al was getting dragged back to the gate.
Like I knew this, but it just dawned on me that Ed getting taller in the last part of the series is not just a visual representation of his character growth and his maturing as things creep towards the finale, but it’s LITERALLY the most obvious sign that Al’s time in the armor is running out.
The context of why Ed is shorter than average and his connection with Al’s body and soul manages to make Ed getting taller - and finally getting taller than Winry, something he’s wanted for the whole series, something that should seem like a victory for him after all the teasing people have done - almost bittersweet. Maybe even ominous if you think too hard about it.
And maybe that’s why there’s never a moment where people point it out, why it’s never played for a joke, why there’s never a moment of victory for Ed when he realizes it. I’d always attributed the lack of reaction to Ed finally getting taller to the rising tension and the foreboding tone of the last part of the story. No one comments on Ed’s height, because things are THAT BAD. Ed doesn’t notice because he’s THAT WORRIED about the Promised Day.
But it’s not just that things are Serious with a capital S and most of the running gags have been abandoned at this point, it’s also that Ed getting SIGNIFICANTLY taller very quickly is a very bad sign for Al and the state of his soul.
The turning point is Ed’s injury in Baschool - either because nearly dying weakened the connection or because Ed used his own life force and tapping into his own soul/life messed with the connection, or because his body just needed all the energy and nutrients possible to survive, which meant less to give to Al’s body, is unclear, but Al lasted for 4/5 years in the amor with no problem, and then Ed almost dies, and suddenly Al starts getting dragged back to the gate and immediately afterwards Ed gains like a foot of height in like six months.

something something Victoria and UT foiling each other
Both still hung up on the past : Victoria through the puppet held by Brown, UT through the BD project.
If Yana chooses this arc to finally give us more about this old feud, I will scream.
PARALLELS INTENSIFY : the notion of long lasting mourning for both Queen Victoria and UT is interesting, especially if UT became "the Undertaker" and lost all senses of hygiene after Claudia's death.
Living their life in black, unable to move on, holding onto past feelings and constantly trying to relive what they lost.
I also especially like Victoria talking about those days "swallowed by darkness and reduced to ash" because...
Isn't it what happened to Vincent's household ?
This chapter has me, now more than ever, convinced that Claudia P died because of Albert's death. Either Victoria held her responsible somehow, or Victoria just lost her sanity after Albert's death and ended up triggering her Watchdog's death, because she disobeyed or something. And then Vincent crossed the line too, years later.
This arc is interesting, despite being super slow.
i still think to myself why did they animate him so arched up
finally logged back in
the feeling is mutual

L showing up at Light's school and introducing himself as Hideki Ryuga is fucking hysterical to me. imagine how every other student there must have felt. that's like if you were at college and some weird goth supergenius kid who looks like he hasn't stepped outside in 20 years showed up at your school and introduces himself as Harry Styles but not the one you're thinking of, and then he follows around some other weird supergenius kid for a week and they play the world's most homoerotic game of tennis and then they both disappear off the face of the earth forever
Don’t forget OCT 3d

Hehehe hi hello I drew girls in Pinterest outfitsss!!!
Sorry if anyone pointed this out, but it's interesting how Modri is most likely speaking to three different Shinigamis in this scene, considering :
one font for "that revolting nose-curling smell" (similar to how Will once talked about Seb in the circus arc)
a different font for "he looks so serious [...] I couldn't help but laugh" (the Undertaker?)
and another different font "the child is his contractor ? What curious taste he has"
Thought it worth mentioning, considering the rather big cast so far for this arc and the fact it's been a long time on-going theory that UT wasn't the only Shinigami behind the current BD project (but also why would UT be away from real!Ciel ?).
kuroshitsuji english translation might have made a crucial mistake in ch218
At the end of Chapter 218, Modri says the exact same line as Polaris: 私は死んでも執事ですから, which I am told in English is "As I'm a butler, even in death." Obviously this leads us to think Modri is Polaris...
HOWEVER!!!!! I believe Yana is actually fucking with us with some classic wordplay.
Because 執事 (butler) in Japanese is the EXACT SAME WORD as "deacon" - this is also 執事. It's a Christian ranking below a priest.
It might've been safer to translate this line as "As I'm a servant, even in death." so it could be interpreted as either a butler or a servant of God.
Ch218, more spoilers: Modri
Yeah, I also think this was a translation mistake, or Yana-san is just messing with us. I don't think he's Polaris, unless he somehow got all the tats done after we last saw (so little of) him. Because this exact same wording can't be quite right.
Why he'd also be an advanced bizarre doll, idk, unless he's got a common blood type, like Vega (A) or Polaris (O). There has never been enough blood for real Ciel (Sirius, AB) or Doll (Canopus, B).
We also have this scene, not included in previous spoilers I've posted or reblogged:
The way he dresses, speaks, and uses that cross for his IV/transfusion bottle... I should think he really is more like a deacon than a butler.
It's also very important to note that Modri refers to our earl as "the child accompanying him", suggesting he doesn't recognize him as real Ciel's twin. Polaris would know it right away.
